No anesthetics? tough girl. course working on her spine, she prolly won't feel much of anything anyway. then a look over at doctor camp.

"I expect to be present for this. no closing me outside the door or that garbage. and I still have things to discuss with you."

Then a look over at Jelena, and a smirk.

"Yes, civilian goes away when health issues get brought up, especially ones like yours."
PostPosted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 12:49 pm

"It's not a health issue and it's not that big of a deal." Ever always that was wasn't she? Not wanting to make important things as important as they realy were.

He returned James' look. "Of course if it's alright with Jena. Though I'm sure I won't have to tell you to stay out of the way. Being there and being in the way I'm sure you know are completely different things. Be in the way and you get the boot.

Robert cleared his throat and stood, gesturing to James and the door. "Shall we have his discussion you seek then?"

"Of course. after you, doctor."

He knew the difference. of course he did. you get in teh way you get booted. you pull stunts like that in the military you get dead. simple as that. but he headed over to teh door, opening it and letting the good doctor go through first, before closing it behind him.

"First. What in the name of the nine hells possessed you to use substandard earth based materials on her? Second, why isn't there a record of that work, so that people up here trained to work with it will know about it if something were to happen? and third, and this is really the more important one, what exactly do you think is wrong and how do you plan on fixing it?"

Yes, James took this quite seriously. to teh point that though his demenor didn't change, his voice didn't raise, but someone listening woudl get the vibe he was not happy. not at all.

"Anything you replace better be replaced with state of the art. no more of that earth mass produced crap. No cutting corners, no getting part B instead of part A becuase it's cheaper. and I will know the difference. and so will my team. I even think you used earthbased junk or even thought about cutting corners, you even tell a fib about how much something might hurt, and you'll be praying for a transport home with a pack of wild Fenrirs before I'm through with you."

"First it's simple...she was on earth, dying. It's not like the bases keep boxes of high grade bioware around. At least five years ago they didn't. Time was of the essence. And if I didn't have access to what I did, then Jena wouldn't even be up here right now. She'd be buried in the ground with the rest of her family." A litte defensive maybe? Of couse, he didn't like being told he did shoddy work.

"Secondly, there is a record on it. It is just kept confidential...under Jena's order. Doctor patient confidentiality after all, yes? I have to follow her wishes by base agreement and that privacy. If something were to happen, there is a copy of the file on Fleet. I would assume the moment you all realized she had bioware in her, you'd do a system check."

"Third...it's been five years. Five years in which I assume I am the only one who sees her on the matter. Five years that her body has been using low grade equipment...and we both know she doesn't follow orders and that she overworks herself, thus her bioware. Basically? It's wearing out. She says her backs hurting more than usual, she's having periods of numbness, things seems to be 'catching'. All the classic signs of bioware needing replacing. If it's as bad as I think it is, well I'll do just that."

"And yes, I would replace with Fleet issued materials. Though it the tough part is convincing her and then if that happens, making her comfortable about it. Parts and time would have to be off the record. And I don't cut corners because of cost, I work on Jena for free as a promise to her parents. I'm her God Father you know, I have to take care of her."

"Believe me, she knows it all. Knows how much it hurts and the risks and what not. Thus her aversion to me messing with anything. After all you know that if I replace that all, not only do I essentially kill her for a bit of time while I work, but her brain has to learn and function with the newer equiptment. She'd have to learn to walk and everythign all over again, just like the first time. But my you are protective of her aren't you?"

"I've seen what some doctors are willing to do. That's more than enough for me to be overly protective. I know the risks. and there are certain things that go beyond doctor paitent confidentiality. that's one of them. if there's a record on fleet, it's on a system that even I can't access. there's there damn little that I can't. I didn't know your direct relationship, so fogive me for thinking you might be willing to cut corners or that you were being paid for your work."

A moment for that.

"newer bioware, as I woudl assume you are aware, has far more synaptics and readwire. if her brain still knows how to walk, then it shouldn't really be a case of relearning. it shoudl just be a few minutes while her body adjusts to the upgrade, shouldn't it?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 2:35 pm

"Ask your project leader about it." Thought he gave James somewhat of a smile and then a shake of his head. "I'll take no offense, not many do. But believe me, I wouldn't put her life in danger."

"It depends. Everyone reacts differently to bioware. For instance, she's learned to walk through bioware, which I'm sure you can recall that the body must learn to use wiring for it's movement. Her body may still know how to walk or it may just be stored in the bioware wiring itself."

"Not to mention, brand new hardware would be over the level that her brain could easily process. Stronger impulses and what not. She could feel less 'in control' of herself. After all, her bioware is internal and what not."

"I have internal bioware as well. adn mines in a much more sensative place than the spine. But since you are competent and know what your talking about, and you have personal ties that woudl supercede, I hope, any bribery or influence...I have no problem with allowing your medical expertise to supercede me and my team."

A gesture to go on back into the room.

"But something goes wrong, you're responsible. and the last person that was responsible for those kind of mishaps is in a bed right now with about one bone in his body that's not shattered in seven places."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 23, 2006 4:58 am

"You and your team would be bystandards at most. At least for the initial procedure. And if it comes down to me needing a team I can guarentee you that I would either pull in best of the best here, or bring in my own. Whichever would be better suited and can appreciate patient confidentiality."

James did however get a raised eyebrow as he did indeed issue a blatant threat to him. "Of course I'm responsible. I owe it to her parents to keep her healhy and happy, made a promise to watch over her. I am a fickle man of science and medicine but I do not break my promises. She'll be fine."

A turn on his sneaker, walking back into Jelena's office, except it was empty. He laughed lightly and put his hands in his pockets. "Jena girl....she never did stay in one place. Where do you suppose she's worked herself off to?

"That answer should be quite easy to deduce, Doctor. She's back in the back labs with the echoes. or looking at the new breeds and monitoring them. Your typical workaholic, the second she gets a spare moment, especially from something she doesn't really want to deal with, she's back there working hands on. Have you seen the Echoes before, Doctor Camp?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 23, 2006 10:02 am

"Is that what she does now? We don't really talk about work...me being on Earth and what not. And when I'm up here it's all medical talk to accompany the business. I don't hear much of the word Echo when we're together." He gave a little shrug before looking to James once more. "The only Echoes I've seen is the one in the picture she has in her room. Other than that I usually don't stay long enough to....explore...if you will."

A slight grin.

"Then, by all means, come with me. we'll get Jelena, and you can see some of them live and up close."

James walked to the security panel, and a quick, by his standards, near impossible by non bioware, punched in the coding to open the door.

"After you, doctor. she's probably with the Fenrirs, or with Lillia. my guess on Lillia is she's with Raedon, or the unicorn. she seems taken by those two in particular."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 23, 2006 11:05 am

A nod to James before stepping through the door that had been coded open, walking down the hall passed glass fronted labs. Good lord, the technology. No wonder they needed to do this all up in sterile space. But his expression remained only intrigued. "Hm, hope my allergies don't act up."

But he slowed to a stop and let James have the lead, realizing that he had no idea where he was going. "Well do lead the way, for I'll just get myself lost." Well, this should be interesting.

Indeed she was in the back labs, though she had taken to the catwalks above the entire place, surveying things from up there for the time being, trying to work through her head what she wanted to get done and what needed to be attended to first. OODDS were back on the bridge of her nose as information filed on the little screens in front of her eyes.

James did, occasionally giving the doctor a chance to look over the Echoes. Hippogryphs, Fenrirs, pheonix, leviathan, unicorn...the list went on, giving him time to enjoy seeing them before moving on, until a glance up showed where she actually was.

"There she is, up on the catwalk."

Though his attention turned back to the doctor.

"How soon will you be giving her this examination?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 23, 2006 11:20 am

Where was Lillia? As always talking to Raedon. She was actually within the enclsure itself even though Jelena would probably yell at her for it and at this point she just didn't care. Her fingers were running through his beautiful wings and she sighed, "Raedon, I swear, there's just so much to do I just dont' get time to come back here and see you as often as I should."

He watched her with those soulful eyes and fluttered his wings lightly then slipped away from her and wandered off to another part of the enclosure tossing his head. Too busy to come see me? Well, I'm too busy to see you too.

She giggled, "You're going to be a man about this and pout huh? Well fine, I won't give you the treats I brought..." A small smirk, watching him.

He glanced back at her for a moment, stepped to the side and then walked back over blinking. Treats? Did you say treats?

She giggled again and held out her hands, feeding him the treats that were in her palms. "There you go. And I am sorry it's taken me so very long. I didn't mean to let so much time pass...it just kind of happened."

Bring me treats like this all the time, and you're forgiven. Now, got anymore?

Needless to say, he was impressed. After all, when one holds the degrees he did and then considered the ones Jelena had, she had worked herself out a nice little complex thing here hadn't she? To think, she was creating life and not only that, but species of animals that never existed to begin with.

"No wonder people say she's 'playing God'. I can see where they would get the idea from." But a look up to spot her wandering about in her own workd. Hm, did seems her walking and posture were the tiniest bit off. Something he would notice easily enough since he was looking for it. Angles were good. "In a day or two's time. Why? Something I should now about?

Yes she was walking a little funny, though hiding it well. She was having another bout of pain and it wasn't too fun at all. But she didn't let that stop her in her wandering or her work though. Eventually Jelena had worked her way over to where Lilia was, leaning on the railing and looking down from the catwalk to her assistant in the enclousre.

It bothered her the slightest bit. Yes, Readon was a Variant...but he wasn't a pet. Jelena knew she herself was close with her own though, especially her fenrirs. But it was a little different. She was literally seen as mother to them and mothers were to give thier children affection. No need to brood senses of abandonment in her Echoes.

"Lilia, don't give him too many of those or he'll start begging. Have to make sure he retains his partially wild side." Called down from the cat walk but not yelled or chastising in manner.
