Officer Hot-Pants Okay, I heard about that a while back, but I thought it was supposed to be a serious movie from what I'd heard then. Now I'm just gonna have see it. Almost lost it at "the battle for Earth is gonna get nazi". I can't just not ask the one nagging question, though; where the HELL are they getting the resources to build all those things??? gaia_nitemareleft Serious? Heh, not even close. You are not going to see lots of frowning and sensitive tip toeing around the issue. I know the nazi aspect is tricky area but I think since it's Finnish-German collaboration I suppose there's no need for anyone to feel overly sensitive about it. I mean, who wouldn't want to see bunch of moon nazis getting their buts kicked. mad D It was mostly sponsored by the fans and then some big companies and private investors. The whole process they made the movie was totally new. They've been posting pics and videos through out the whole process and got the fans involved in the making of the movies as extras, planning sets etc. They've been open about the project thus getting lots of fans in beforehand of the movie to talk for them. Plus, I mean the whole idea of the movie is just hilarious and suits the Finnish love of black humour. I'm not sure how tabu the nazis are in other parts of the world so I don't know how the humor of the movie will be seen there. gaia_angelright

Enh. My humor is blacker than the void between the galaxies. Bring on the goose-steppers. twisted
Best way to destroy something serious is to turn it into a laughing-stock, anyway.

The things that were done back then were horrible, but still, we should be able to talk about it. How else are our kids going to learn? I think here in Scandinavia we are excellent at making over the top humour about sensitive stuff, but it's tricky to know how other cultures will react to it. It's going to be interesting to see how the Iron Sky will do in other countries. I think they've sold the movie rights to dozen of countries, including the US. gaia_angelright

If it doesn't trigger a strong reaction, what's the point?
Once about 75% of the people who suffered through a given event are dead, it's perfectly acceptable to poke fun at the situation. If the surviving 25% don't like it, well, too bad; Three outta four thought it frickin' hysterical, so go find yourself a suitable corner and cry it out, if it bothers you that much.
I never understood those types, anyway. It's not like they're putting on performances in the street, and you inevitably have to see it every day on your way back and forth across town; you have to willingly give up money to get into the theatre or obtain a copy of the movie. Don't like it? Don't freaking buy it. stare I don't like STDs, but I don't go around complaining about prostitution. I simply make a habit of not picking up every hooker I see on the street.
Thankfully, it seems these days people are finally beginning to come to their collective senses about this. Still a few sad-sacks, but it's getting better. smile
EDIT: Yeah, I just had one of these conversations earlier, and I'm still venting... sweatdrop

gaia_nitemareleft Ah, yes. It is some times tricky to shuffle around the waters of sensitive subjects. It's possible that I've unintentionally offended some one here in our guild by posting that trailer. It's some times hard to know since your own culture might be so much different. I am sorry if I'm making some one feel bad but I am not sorry for seeing the world differently. smile What I love about AGA is that I'm learning new stuff every time and the diversity in how people see the world is helping me to "think out side of the box". edit: What I was meant to add was also that I think everyone have the right to feel offended and express their feelings in the way they want to, but it should be remembered that the right includes everyone. gaia_angelright

IYeah, this place is great. I'd pretty much given up on finding a new "home" guild after my last one died, but this place is plenty active, and not having to worry that the person I'm exchanging inuendo with may, in fact, be a 13 year-old is definately a big perk. biggrin

gaia_nitemareleft I also don't have any interest in talking with 13 year olds who's biggest life choices are whether they are team edward or team what-ever-that-shirtless-dudes-name-was. mad D Of course it's also "dangerous" to talk in here about certain hot topics and I know we are tip toeing in the borderline of that with the moon nazis. It's just I some times might start up discussing something and then I realize after few minutes that it might be actually considered as "tabu" in other peoples eyes. It's not intentional but it does some times cause tricky situations especially here in the world of Internet. gaia_angelright

There will always be sensitive subjects and that's ok. I'd rather have interesting discussions then be so afraid to say anything lest someone be offended. There are of course limits to that. I think if we're careful to be kind and respectful of each other as individuals even if we're being more irreverent with more abstract topics we can avoid a lot of problems.

I think talking is important. Staying silent doesn't make the boogeymen go away but it's not always easy to keep the conversation in the "good zone". Still, I think that the saying "progress happens when people are moved out side of their comfort zone" is very accurate. When people are nudged bit sideways from where they are used to be, they tend to pick up some new ways of seeing the world. I'm some times fascinated of how close minded some people can be and poking them for the name of science is fun. whee Of course, I try to avoid doing it in the internet, since in here things can be understood horribly wrong if you are not careful how you express your words. gaia_angelright

gaia_nitemareleft Oohkay. So I'm just back from the Iron Sky movie. It's brilliant! There were moments where you could pin point all the geeks in the theater because they were the only one laughing. You can clearly see that the movie was written by bunch of young, geeky, people. mad D It also had some stingy yet witty political punches and I really liked it. I warmly recommend it to you if you just have the opportunity. Only thing is that don't go in there frowning. It is not a movie to be taken too seriously, though the ending did make you think. gaia_angelright
