Mandy had been deliberately staying out of fights and just having fun walking around on the gravity defying stairs when they decided to stop being so gravity defying.
Ouch. She was right, that had hurt but clearly not so much as falling to the ceiling and down like the people falling had. Her instincts that had been moping at her not trying out the awesome floating ability now seemed to get on track with her common sense. Ahhh vindication.
Still private victories later, right now extracting herself from this pile and dealing with the figure. Maybe they'd finally get some direct information?
"And what possible use could we be to you?"
Maybe if it answered they would finally get some understanding towards the figures intentions, after all when the others had mentioned it her fight had seemed awfully like a test. One that she hoped she had past.

Arachne was now supremely relieved that she hadn't been bold enough to float off the stairs but worried about those that had. As she hurried up the stairs to see if everyone was okay, she dripped, scraping her arm and cursed.
She looked up at the hooded figure and hissed under her breath; 'Use of us? If we keep getting injured there will be little left of us to 'use'.' she bristled, angry, tired as well. As had become her want, she looked around for Sepheran, hoping that he stayed on the stairs.
After a quick look for him, she moved to see how the others were faring.

The hood tilted to one side slightly, "Isn't being useful to me enough?" A pause and then, " It should be. So go through the door behind you, and defeat the man within. I may even thank you afterward." He gives the group a small shoo-ing gesture to hurry them along.

He was okay with Lizzy touching him; he actually knew her, somewhat. She wasn't a complete stranger to him; he would have been happy to tell Riley this as well, had the subject come up. As it were it never did, and instead he found their little confrontation to go in a surprisingly different manner entirely.
Which was good, he supposed.
"I'm Mac." He said with a similar nod of his head, though it was pretty redundant at this point...but for finality's sake it was worth it in the end. Damage had been done and it was very belated, but it was a start at least. "Same." His reply was short, mostly because he had nothing more to add; she had summed it up nicely, though deep down he knew he likely wouldn't go seeking her out on purpose.
"It's fine." Mac sighed at her apology, letting her push off of him one last time...but just as the laws of physics were starting to apply, well, the laws of gravity took over. With a sharp cry Mac fell, hitting something solid only to slide and fall again, but this time he wasn't alone; someone fell on him, and then after that, another someone fell on him too. What the Jack, man! This wasn't his day!
Groaning and coughing, Mac struggled to sit up, his blurry vision moving into focus as Lizzy's voice continued to call his name. Ugh, it hurt to breathe! It hurt to move...candlejack it just hurt! Hopefully no bones were broken, but he hurt too equally all over to be able to tell for sure; a broken rib or two at this point would in no way surprise him.
"I'm fine~" He stressed, though it was the stress that made him sound like he was a rather massive liar. A hand came up to hold his chest, leaning over to stare at the robed figure that...appeared to want to use them? Well, jack! Even surprising still, it insisted on having them defeat someone else entirely.
"W-Why would we want to do that?" Mac wheezed, still trying to get his breath back. To get thanked? That didn't sound like a reward. The figures didn't seem the type to, you know, actually help them out.

Malodore got to its feet - though it did give Riley a worried look, and sidestepped over to stand next to her. "Care to give us some details? If we're so important to you, it behooves you to equip us as best you can," it said, its gaze narrowing.
Then it crouched down next to Riley.

The floating had come suddenly. It only took an instant for Draven to be sure he didn't like not being in control of his movements in the air. Next thing he knew, the ceiling was in his way, and then bam! He was on the ground again. Well, that was going to hurt later. He'd landed flat on his back, and it took a moment for him to get his bearings again. He would worry about moving in a few moments.
The figure mentioned using them...and now it wanted them to fight? Really? After toying with them like this?
"What?" was the only thing he managed to say.

Riley's eyes turned to look at the door, and then turned back to the hooded figure. She got herself to a standing position without using either of her arms, just as Malodore began to crouch beside her. It was a welcoming presence, but she was a little distracted by the rage that was building up inside of her at the moment to accept it.
Malodore would hear a sickening crack, as Riley grabbed her arm and yanked it powerfully, pulling it out before letting it slam back into it's socket. She let go of her arm, while her reddened eyes glared at the calm and collected form of the reaper telling them what to do.
No.
She stated it just as calmly as he had, but there was nothing calm about her gaze.
Let us go home.

"Perhaps we could benefit each other, and you could explain the situation to us instead," She muttered darkly at the figure just as Mac stirred, causing her to turn to him instead. Heaving a sigh of relief as he got up, she let Charlie go, allowing him to... Well, lean on her if he wished to. She was sure that Charlie, being Charlie, would recover soon anyway. She reached out, pulling Mac into a quick hug before letting him go for him to catch his breath.
"Good..." She managed a smile before turning to glare at the hooded figure again, just staring at him, like that would earn them all some answers.

"Well yes I'm sure being useful is great and thanks would be nice, more than we usually get but we have this unfortunate need to know why if you would be so kind to indulge us." Mandy said this all in a calming tone, clearly trying not to gain the figures anger after previous displays by them, though it did bite at her to be so polite.
Still she couldn't quite suppress sending a clearly baffled look at her companions. Why the sudden change from just attacking?

It began softly, "You ask me why? What? You tell me what would behoove me? You want answers? You want to go home?! Home. What a lovely idea, let us all just simply go home." A laugh, "If it was that simple...I wouldn't need to be here! I WOULDN'T HAVE NEED FOR CHILDREN TO FIGHT THIS BATTLE." The small figure seemed to grow as it ranted, pacing about the small area furiously, "I am the child of CONQUEST." Is that the sound of stone shifting below them? "I am an heir to the end of days. When I ride forth it is upon a white horse. Nations kneel and weep to know me!" That is definitely the sound of stone shifting below them. The sound of the steps being torn apart.

Arachne scowled, clutching herself as there was no one else to hold onto as the hooded figure ranted.
'If you're that fabulous, fight the battle yourself!' she retorted and then fell quiet, listening to a new, yet distinct sound.
'What is that??' she asked, moving a little to peer down.

"You brought us here at great expense, did you not? If you need us so badly..." This was a gamble, and Malodore knew it; still, it kept its voice even and calm. "Are you really going to wait however long for another group to show up? Tell us. What can Conquest not conquer, and why do you think we have any chance of doing so?" Its gaze flicked back to the door for a moment before returning to the hooded void.

Riley heard the cries of her friends around her, but everything had started to fade away. As she listened to the words of this reaper, two things became startlingly clear.
The first was that this being, whoever it was, was no mere reaper. In fact, she could sense the power emanating off of him from here. It was intoxicating. It was exactly what she had always wanted. She closed her eyes, and she could almost smell it.
The second, was that this being, whoever it was, was as chained to this place as they were right now. As powerful as he was, he was a prisoner in his own right.
If something could keep him from being free, they certainly had no chance.
Even as Malodore continued to try and cajole it, Riley started walking forward. She could feel the ground shifting beneath her feet. The cracks began to hiss, daring her to take a wrong step. Despite the dangers, she kept her eyes on the hooded figure, until she was closer than the rest of the group.
A deal, then. She whispered, privately. You need us. We need you. If you can grant them a way home, I will fight this battle for you.
Alone.

Petro narrowed his eyes at the figure and gave an angry snort at the question about how they were "refusing to kneel." Damn straight he wasn't going to kneel! He grit his teeth when the pile up happened and just his luck he was at the very bottom of the pile of bodies. Carefully, he managed to get to his feet, grumbling to the figure, "Y' don't got the right to order us around."
He resisted the urge to rub the sore muscles and new bruises he now sported, his only consolation being that he hadn't jumped off the stairs. At the yelling and the sounds of tearing stone, Petro gave no sign of backing down or being cowed. "There ain't no nations here's gonna kneel to y'! And ain't no white horse neither!"

"As Malodore pointed out, what can you not conquer? That you would require mere children to do so?" She held Charlie in her arms, patting him on the back of his head as she frowned; what was he doing? Reapers can't channel FEAR without their weapon... He's not a reaper then? She was slightly fazed by the ground shifting beneath her, but otherwise appeared calm - she was thinking of her friends back on the beach. They helped her keep her composure, "If we defeat this... Thing, will you care to explain this further to us?"
She just wanted to know what was going on on this island - the mysterious cloaked figures, the fear draining, the numeral notes they had found around the lighthouse. What did it all mean?
"You're as trapped as we are, aren't you?" Her frowned only deepened when she realized that Riley had approached the figure - what was she doing? If she was planning on doing this alone, she had just contradicted her own words to Mac.
What happened to working together for a common goal?
