Henry Dorsett Case I'm starting to wonder if some of the people claiming superhuman "understanding" of religion are posting while on hallucinogenics... Which people?

TheDisreputableDog Yay, I guessed Reagun and Tea right. whee And I think I figured out Deo and Nuri and probably Fiddler but I don't know who else was there... xp I got Tea and Deo wrong. For some reason, I always pictured her with glasses, so... sweatdrop And I only knew who Nuri and Fiddler were because they've posted pictures here before. >_> And I guessed who Reagun was because people would say his hair is pretty...so I assumed the tall guy with the pretty hair was Reagun. xp

There's this girl that posted in "How is 'God Bless You' Offensive?" that doesn't speak very good English and makes these vague, sweeping generalizations that include a claim about how maybe she's the only one who "really understands" human nature...

For being so understanding, she sure is ignorant. Even I couldn't convince myself that all humans hate God or that everyone is going to be pissed off at being dumped.

Isnt that the girl who said she was a spiritual atheist who got pissed when people disagreed with her? And she also invoked the rule of three?

So I've come up with this idea. It's not gonna revolutionise gaia, it's not the best idea ever, but it's a good idea.
I set up a series of users on a system. They get usernames and passwords. They get a firefox extension and a log on. These users can log in and set up an avatar for themselves.
When someone comes across a thread that people are bullshitting on and anyone can go to a web page a) pull down (from a drop down) the user(s) who they think is/are best able to deal with the bullshit. b) The system then generates an image, based on the users(') avatar(s) and compiles a "bat-signal" for that/those user(s). This image will have a bb-ready link. c) They then paste that bb code into the thread as a batsignal for those users
When the image is viewed, it's actually a php file on my server, it sends to my server a unique number generated at step (a) above. The system then flags that there is a new thread bat-signalled and sends to the firefox extensions of the people in question that a thread has been drawn to their attention and a link to the page in question. This message will only be sent the first time someone views said image, of course.
I could, with some extra effort, even set it up such that when a user registers for their batsignal, they choose forums on gaia they're interested in and topics that they're willing to play batman for. Then, during step (a) above, people can choose the forum it's in and the signal cause.
What do we think?
Mod note: This is in no way an attempt at mimicking the behaviour of the report button. This isn't about tos violations or rule-breaking, it's merely an opt-in 'send this page' to a friend type of thing, where you can choose whether or not you get pages.

Sounds rather like a much better implemented version of the "M&R/ED Cavalry" setup I was thinking about making. I'd also recommend "standing alerts" - such as when certain named problems reappear (Tigressa, ST17, Barry, etc). That way, those who wish to receive "general notice" signals can get one simply saying "X known problem user posting in Y thread" and go check it out.

My system can't tell when a user on Gaia has posted. Only when an image stored on my server is read, who by, what the id of the image and from the image what user posted the bat-signal.

Atheists keep telling me I shouldn't care about getting blessed by a god because they don't exist anyway, or if they do there's one father god. Why do they not see the problem with these ******** claims???

I didn't mean it in terms of the system knowing. I just meant that the system might benefit from having pre-made "general quarters" signals that can be fired off manually to anyone with a willing ear (rather than a hand-picked selection) due to known problem users (the ones that half of M&R piles on to begin with).

That sounds really neat, Reagun, plus I'm terribly amused by the idea of giving y'all bat signals. Also... Deoridhe Atheists keep telling me I shouldn't care about getting blessed by a god because they don't exist anyway, or if they do there's one father god. Why do they not see the problem with these ******** claims??? That just makes me sad. This is like... a common occurence?

Why do they not see the problem with these ******** claims??? That just makes me sad. This is like... a common occurence? Not particularly, but then usually I keep my mouth shut. xd I do have semi-regular run ins with monotheists who pity me for not thinking the way they do when it comes up; I have to admit I sometimes have to fight off the pity for them not thinking the way I do as well, in the interest of not sounding like some perfect warrior of light. I can get a bit snarky, too, especially with some of the people my mom ends up having around her, being in the whole New Age movement and all. I adore her latest talky guy, though, Bill Bauman. Excellent sense of humor, really has something to say, and appears to really help people; not at all cultish. I can kind of intimidate people in person, though; I once scared off a person at a Quaker Friend's conference I go to twice yearly when I refused to agree with him that my structured and non-Jungian undergrad experience wasn't some horrible, soul-destroying thing which should never have occured. xd Given I think Jung is best tackled when one is older, my beginning as a teenager notwithstanding, and given how much I value learning mutiple approaches to the same issues, I simply couldn't buy his "Jung is superior to all" raving. I can't figure out to this day if he was more offended that a youth was disagreeing with him or more offended that a woman was. xd Maybe both. He stayed on the opposite side of the room from me for the rest of the weekend, though; it was funny.
