"Or pick off the stragglers." Kareswen commented, "I usually attack one of their campfires when they stop. They don't usually realise what's going on until it's too late."

Van stared at the army in response. He reached into his side satchel on his mount and pulled out one of his last peices of animal meat he used as treats for the warg, and tossed it a few inches away on the ground for it to eat.

Adriana had flashes of playing through the fields of Rohan with a young boy. "Laughing in the sunlight while Pap was at work. 'This war will never keep us from being friends.' " Adriana said, smilling as the falshes turned into seconds of memories. The good times, they were. But what is childhood rather than a time of not having to woory?

Ranu silently watched, noting the smile, and slightly returning it himself, He sighed as he heard the words, and replied in a slightly higher tone of voice, "I hope not, Adri! But no one will get us anyway! I.. I won't let them." Even though it was just a memory, Ranu tenced slightly, his body seeming to harden.

Adriana's smile faded as she opened her eyes to look at him again. It was time to come back to the real world where the flowers no longer blossomed amongst the green plains and the air didn't bear the sweet fregrances. The darkness had crept over the lands that once bore hapiness and froloking and where the last thing she had to do was worry. "I should fetch my steed," she spoke, her voice lower as she began to back away, "And perhaps you should be on you way as well, Ranu."

Ranu touched his throat uncertainly, his eyes out east, on the flames and darkness. "You remember me, then?" He asked in a soft voice, then turnt away, guilt and shame distating his body language. "I owe you many appologys, for never returning."

The sticky humidity of the air increased a casual sign of the upcoming storm. Certainly it would start raining soon. She crossed her arms over her chest, looking away at a fallen statue. What once was probably a great marble work of art now looked gray with age as little bits of green slime also crawled over the old beauty. She bit her lower lip, and then faced her past companion again. "It feels like ages ago that you left Rohan, Ranu. It's far over my shoulders, but, you know, I've never ever forgotten your face. It's gradually become a memory, and for me to see you now... for you to be here now in this great time of darkness is unheard of..." Her sentence was drawn away and yet another crack of thunder was heard over the air. She didn't know what else to say, but the uneasiness, the nausea she felt, told her that she just wanted to rest. It had been a crazy day.

Ranu still faced the walls. His eyes dropped to the ground, where a single blade of glass lay. He knelt, touching it, and replied softly, "I did swear to you that I would be there, when you needed me most." He said, his tone dropping as if she feared to be overheard. He glanced over his shoulder at her, his lip twitching softly in an attempt to smile, "I never forgot your face. It guided me through the darkest points in my trails."

Adriana was known not to be able to hold grudges as a child, but was this different? She reacalled all the good things they had gone through as childeren once again. Was ti truly his fault that he left? "Wh- why did you leave?" she asked, truly wanting to work the sittuation out. In the time she had spent away from home, she hardly talked to freinds-old or new. It coukd be good for her.

Ranu closed his eyes, to hide the fact the question made them water. This answer would hurt. "Father got called back," He said softly, "They told him his exile was over. When we returned, all that waited for him was bloody blades." His tone went bitter at the end, "They murdered him, and nearly me too." He tapped his cheek. "I fled, and the 'magician' helped me. He taught me some skills to help me to make it, like weak fire magic, to make a fire, and wind, only enough to block it from me. I couldn't make a major storm, but could save myself from one." His eyes reopened slowly, and turnt to look at her, while his hand casually swept over his face in a gesgure she may remember as one she used to do. He'd learnt it off her, and picked it up. Dispite comforting him, it hid the glimmer of tears his eyes held.

Adriana's face softened and the redness of anger fled as well to reveal the true color of her skin. She went over to Ranu, embracing his tightly, but in silence. He couldn't hide his tears. She wasn't that stupid. There was no way she could be angry and she too had a few tears fall. "I forgive you, Ranu. I'm sorry..." That was all she could get out of her mouth. For years she had this mystery of why her friend fled, always thinking of the worst possible answeres, but now it was all clear.

Fighting to hold his own emotions back now, he simply returned the embrase, holding it until she let go, "I still appologise for not coming back, like I swore I would." His hand swept to his pocket, drawing out a small horse, carved from wood, "I'd even finished the horse carving I used to do. I'd always planned to give it to you." He looked at the horse, feeling, in an odd way, like a quest was complete. Smiling faintly, he held out the horse, "I forgot the name you called it," he said ruefully.

Adriana put a hand over her mouth, in shock. She took the horse after a moment, looking at it as she handled it in both of her hand, now, a lrage smile on her face. "Navarro. Well what a funny coincidence. The horse I ride now has its name," she explained, remembering that her horse was probably still outside. She felt like a lousy owner keeping him where he'd be frightened. She started to walk away at a brisk pace, but turned her head over her shoulder. "Come along, slow poke!" she joked as if she were seven again.

Smiling faintly, Ranu followed slowly, then drew in breath, a long whistle escaping his lips. It echo'd loudly down the streets of the dead city. As if in answer, a neigh was heard, followed by clattering hooves. "Here comes my ride," he said, a grin almost reaching his lips.

Adriana looked over ta Ranu, hearing the whistle and the response. "W-well I haven't gotten to that point of training yet," she said, rolling her eyes. "Just go ahead and proclaim you skills. I'm perfectly fine with finding my horse on foot," she said, continuing along to the very front of the gate so that her view could be casted out through the entire plain. "Navarro!" she called, and soo a sorrel horse was over by her side, nudging her in the shoulder...

Ranu looked at the horse with a gasp, "Is that the foul we helped birth, outselves?" he asked, his eyes wide. He still had nightmares about the horses whinnys of pain and fear. "Wow..."
