Alister had been quiet most of the time as he followed his new companions. Ironclaw seemed to have a bit in common with Ganner and Halcyon so he didn't have too much of quams in letting him join them as long as there was no ill intention within him. He had been trying to commune with Moradin, but had been met mostly with silence. Perhaps, Moradin wanted him to try to answer things on his own for a while for he was not denied his clerical powers so it wasn't that he lost favor with Moradin. Perhaps this adventure would help him refocus and contemplate on his duty.
"I suppose you are familiar with the roads we are taking to our next destination yes?" asked Alister as they headed on. They hadn't discussed in detail of their route, but he trusted in Moradin and hoped that his companions knew the way. The last band he had joined was that of a caravan and he had decided to stay in the village to help out. Now he was on an adventure. Maybe an adventure would be a trial for him and his faith to better understand Moradin.

"I for one am glad we came along when we did for those kids. I, too, know what it's like to lose family. If I can help it, I want to make sure it doesn't happen to others." Halcyon said with a little fire. He was still angry about the goblins. Angry that they attacked the village, that they tried to kill the children for some dark ritual. It all showed in a brief flicker of rage in his eyes.

"Indeed. Though all's well that ends well. Think of it this way. It was lucky for the villagers that the goblins chose to attack them yesterday of all days. A day when three adventurers just happened to be passing through town. Had we not been there things might have turned out very differently, and much darker than they did. I for one choose to believe that my Lady Tymora was smiling on us all." Ganner said and lifted his panther-claw amulet, into which was carved the symbol of Tymora, from under his tunic and gave it a little kiss before tucking it away again. "Anyway, this is a new adventure. New friends, an open road, and gold to be made. What more could a wandering sellsword vagabond want?" Ganner asked with a laugh.

Ironclaw looked to Alister and nodded, "Indeed I do, and know too that its good we don't travel them alone." He smiled and looked back to Halcyon and Ganner, "That town is most fortunate I expect."

Alister nodded. "Very well my friends. Lead the way." he said. He made a silent prayer for Moradin to guide their way and to protect them as they traveled. It had been nearly a week since he had arrived in the village with the caravan. With the goblins gone, he was sure the village would be able to make it through to the next season.
As they traveled he admired the landscape and the changing leaves of the trees. Many of which were starting to fall and litter the path.

((I'm going to skip us ahead a bit.))
The four continued down the path through the trees for several hours, sharing small talk and enjoying the open road and the promise of adventure ahead. After enough time had passed the sun began to make its descent towards the horizon. Ganner, who had been lost in thought and conversation, suddenly noticed the light slanting through the trees. "Hey, guys, think we should make camp for the night?" Ganner asked.

Ironclaw nodded and looked around taking their rough position. "There is actually a small campsite coming up that people often use. Unless you think its not auspicious to camp along the road. In which case we shouldn't have a problem finding something a little more into the woods."

Alister noted their decisions and spoke up. "Perhaps it would be wise to join up with a well known campsite. There is strength in numbers." he added. He wasn't sure about making another campsite when an established one had already been made. He peered past the trees and thought that if they were to make their own camp, they would have to find wood, establish a perimeter, make a fire and keep watch in turns. Many of those tasks could be decreased or eliminated if they were to join the group. Still they had their reasons for perhaps not trusting such groupings.

"Perhaps given the rather negative reputation of our new friend's heritage we'd be better off avoiding other groups of people for the time being." Ganner said. "Once we make it to Garriston we should probably be fine. I think most people would be less inclined to attempt something stupid within a larger population that might not all agree with them. Until then, though, we're probably better off sticking to ourselves."

Alister thought about the suggestion and nodded. "Very well. If there is certain attention you want to avoid for the time being, then I will go along with your plan." he said following them to their new location on settlement. They had veered off the road a good distance from where the common camping ground was and found a semi clearing without being too exposed in the open. Once they had settled he placed his belongings at the foot of one of the trees.
"This looks like a good spot, eh?" he asked.

"I think it'll get us through the night." Ganner said and tossed his pack down next to another tree. "Somebody want to get a firepit set up? I'll go and find us some wood." Ganner walked off into the trees and began to rummage around the bases of various trees, scrounging up deadfall and some dried leaves to use as kindling. When he felt he had collected enough to get them started he headed back to camp.

As the others went about gathering deadfall, Ironclaw tied his bag to a low hanging branch and went about clearing a space for their fire pit of debris. He drew a dagger from under his cloak and whispered a word, the dagger transformed into a pick and he used it to rough out the edges of the where he wanted the fire to stop making a foot wide space of dirt around the pit itself. Afterwards the dagger transformed back and he slipped it away.

Ganner walked back into camp to see that a firepit had been dug out. He walked over and placed his stack of firewood next to it, then began grabbing the branches and arranging them in the firepit in such a way that they should catch easily and burn well. Once he was done arranging the sticks and logs, and placing the kindling in the center, Ganner leaned down and whispered and arcane word, along with a gesture, and a small flame flickered to life amongst the dry leaves. Ganner blew on it lightly and it soon spread among the leaves and began to catch on the branches. "Well, fire's started. Anybody know how to cook?"

((and so the adventure continues))
Alister volunteered to also help gather kindling and branches for a fire. It wasn't difficult to find. The problem was finding pieces dry enough for the fire. Eventually he found enough and began heading back to the gathering. Once there he placed the extra branches away from the fire for later use. When asked about cooking, he only replied he could make a simple stew using a bit of the rations, water and some of the mead he had brought. The mead he cautioned was more of the strong stuff and could put a bit of hair on the chest if one was not accustomed to such staunch stuff.

"Seems like a meal well suited for the road good Alister." His wry grin shone from the darkness of his hood and reaching under his cloak he drew out a small cup, and raised it up a little. "If its Dwarven I'd care for a cup if you wouldn't mind. Its been some time since I had a good Dwarven brew." The smile never left his face as he looked to young Ganner, "Have you ever had the pleasure?"
