How the ******** did it NOT occur to them the whole thing makes them look like gigantic twits?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:55 am

Because that's what they are: Gigantic Twits. Extreme Japanofiles act like this, obsessed over a country they really know nothing about. Therefore, that commercial isn't far from the truth for some, if not a great many.

Oh geebus crispies. Are there people with that amount of fanism for other countries?
PostPosted: Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:39 am

some are obsessed with Germany, romantics with France. Others prefer Korea, due to gaming reasons. The list goes on.

That is true, in Japan we have people into tons of different kinds of cultures from everywhere. Are there any that you dig?

In particular? Not many, I guess. I think I just take what I like from each one and move on.

You know, that kinda reminds me of The Stepford Wives for some reason, even though I've neither seen the movie nor read the book. Makes me wonder if there's an inverted version of that tale floating around somewhere

OMG DOUBLE POST. CHAT, DAMMIT

Them Crooked Vultures is amazing especially for leaking their entire album ahead of schedule. Musicians could stand to learn a thing or two from how they handled their album getting out before release

I should check in that. While I do support musicians defending their material, (since it is theirs) I also find it interesting as to how they react to piracy.

For me, the weakest argument against pirating is that it hurts the artist. It does, but in reality, the artist only gets a nickel or so from each copy they sell, the rest goes to the label backing them, the people who are really at the core of all this rage. To me, all the real cash they personally make is in the merchandise they sell and the live shows they play, without that they can't be completely successful as musicians and can only do it as a hobby.

True. Piracy hurts the labels a lot, but the argument isn't weak.

Piracy hurts the artist since now they don't get even that measly nickel that they would normally. Unless the artist does something against pirates, they suffer as well, since merchandise profits also get cuts, and let's not even get started with cuts from events and concerts. Artists get a small cut out of everything, not just record sales.

In this age the only way to ensure the longevity of virtual media is to pirate it. I enjoy supporting my habits financially, but have virtual backups of most everything I own.

I think the best example for me would be anime. I can buy a few hundred dollars worth of anime at any given time (splurge on amazon, convention, etc); however, I have a few well stocked external hard drives of anime.

I want to let the business know I want them to keep making their product, but at the same time I have no intention of giving up the convenience of my media center and anime subtitled the day after it airs.

I give kudos to the industries that are learning to make money by supporting free sharing of ideas rather then suppressing it.

None of what you're talking about is piracy, since you have back-ups of what you own. Not only that, but downloading free fansubs isn't illegal unless the anime is licensed in America. So buying your anime while keeping those fansubs isn't illegal.

One of the ways to ensure the longevity of virtual media is to keep back-ups, not necessarily piracy. You are in your full right to possess multiple back-ups of whatever you own unless explicitly stated by its producers. That, and the sucky DMCA. All said, it's true that going bootleg is easier than dealing with DRM.

So what kinds of dreams do you guys often have? A lot of mine have been super, super weird. I don't think a dream where Bruce Willis is your spiritual guide can be considered normal in any way, shape or form

Last dream I remember found myself in a clinic or medical facility of sorts with doctors experimenting with some sort of cream on me. The thing made me all muscly and awesome when they rubbed it. I lately only get like body mod dreams. Weird.
