"The Challenges that need to be completed in order to enter the Labyrinth," I reply cheerfully.

Nyx: One of the skinny women nods and leads you to a small, two-person bathing area. You assume this is because they do not have single-person areas. She goes on the other side of the fence and begins to operate the pump. You cannot see her, and she cannot see you (presumably). Water begins to flow out of a wooden spout, filling up the tub easily. It is warm, as evident by the steam.
Leina: None of the patrons seem to particularly interesting, except for a man who looks a lot like a traveling merchant. He appears to be trying to sell some salt to a local.
Sand-Claw: "Ah, the Challenges," the bartender says. "Aye, I can help. It's about eleven and a half miles from here, if you move in straight lines. There are four towns in the nearby areas, but none of them are close to the Challenge. It's supposed to be part of the Challenge: towns are all a certain amount of time away from the Challenges so that it's harder to get to them because you'll need more supplies than normal. It's to the west from here, though a little more north."

I shrug, not really caring about who escorts me. The food depraved women have me concerned, but I'm realy not sure of what I can do to help them out. I guess I could also see what the others think after the fact, see if they have any ideas.

"That's a long way to go on foot," I reply. "Can you point it out on a map, or will I have to do this with navigation skills alone?"

Layla: One of the healthier women leads you to a small, two-person bathing area. Xiao follows. You assume this is because they do not have single-person areas. She goes on the other side of the fence and begins to operate the pump. You cannot see her, and she cannot see you (presumably). Water begins to flow out of a wooden spout, filling up the tub easily. Sand-Claw: "Sure, I can show you," he says. "You got a map?" You know that you do, in fact, have one in your backpack.

I relax in the warm tub, letting the warmth work out some of the stress in my muscles before I propel myself up to Xiao. I wanted to get close to her so I could speak in a quieter tone. The motion was to make it seen like an amourous gesture if I did in fact, have watchers. "So, what did you make of the two from the lobby?" I whisper to her.

Layla: The water has no trouble removing the mud from your skin, hair, and wings. Even Xiao's skin, hair, and tail fur is losing its mud pretty quickly. When you speak to her, Xiao looks at you grimly. "They look horrible," she whispers. "They look like they haven't had a proper meal in months! They look even more underfed than I was!"
Nyx: The water is soothing, and easily removes the mud from your skin, hair, and fur. You feel as though you could just spend hours in here, letting the warm water wash over you...

I turn my attention to the women. "Hey," I say quietly. "Do they feed you well? I can't help but notice how.... thin you are."

I put my finger over my lips, trying imply to her to keep her voice down. "I've got a hunch about what's going on. I think they might be... umm... property..." I say, lowering my gaze a bit.

feeling some pity for the two bath house operators that seem underfed, I decide to have the one that didn't follow Nyx escort me to the bath.

I tilt my head slightly in curiosity when I notice the merchant trying to sell salt. Is that really so rare here? Or does he really have nothing better? But I also keep mostly to listening to Sand-Claw and where the challenges are... Maybe I should get to buying some supplies... Maybe that merchant has something of use...

Nyx: "No," the woman says quietly from the other side of the pump, where you cannot see her. "They feed the others well because they do this by choice. I am not here by choice; I must atone for my crimes."
Layla: "Layla, I have no doubt in my mind that that is exactly what's going on," Xiao says. "But unfortunately, you can't free everyone."
Apollo: The thin woman smiles cheerfully and leads you to a small, two-person bathing area. You assume this is because they do not have single-person areas. She goes on the other side of the fence and begins to operate the pump. You cannot see her, and she cannot see you (presumably). Water begins to flow out of a wooden spout, filling up the tub easily. It is warm, as evident by the steam.
Leina: You realize after a moment that, in this time period, it was much harder to come by things that people in the real world (year 2132) take for granted. Also, the salt was apparently purchased from a reputable salt miner in the Snow Kingdom.
Sand-Claw: He looks at the map. He points to what looks like a floating island hovering over the world. It is to the west of here, past several towns (which are very off-path, if looking for a straight route), and past a volcano. "That's the First Challenge," he says. You notice several other such islands all over the map, two in each Kingdom, making a total of ten Challenges.
Willow: None of the patrons seem to particularly interesting, except for a man who looks a lot like a traveling merchant. He appears to be trying to sell some salt to a local. The salt was apparently purchased from a reputable salt miner in the Snow Kingdom.
