"Care to tell me how you did it then? Because honestly even if you were being used, you still didn't know all that. Here a test, tell me exactly how many compnent DNAs go into making a Fenrir, hm? Because that was there, obviouslt you knew that." In reality, only Jelena and her computers knew that one.

She shrugged. It was true she hadn't known half of the information in that article...but someone had gotten it somehow and put her name all over it. "I'm not innocent Jelena! Don't you dare make me innocent. I corroborated with a reporter...I gave him information that he used! You saw the quotes Jelena. I told him those things...every one of them...I did. So don't tell me I'm innocent. Don't tell me it's not my fault...don't..."
She closed her eyes and sighed, "Ignorance of the rules is no excuse...shouldn't teh same rules apply?"

"Names go anywhere these days. I believe one week I was working in the back of a taco place, serving up my own Echoes as filler meat, and apparently I talked to that reporter directly too. And even if they were true, those quotes were innocent remarks. We've all made them to unkown reporters or known ones and they get twisted." A sigh...she just didn't understand how Fleet worked really. "Look...nothing bad is going to happen. And if I truly blames you, your a** would be back on Earth."
A shake of her head. "This happens all teh time Lilia, usually not to this scale that's only been recent, but it still happens. If you can't handle your name being trashed and slandered, finding words put in your mouth...then perhaps you shouldn't be here." What was that now? A sort of here's how it is, now do you want it thing? "When you come to Fleet...you never expect to go back or be called credible ever again."
A look from the Fenrir to Lilia now. "You have to decide if that's what you want." A quiet moment. "Look...you really have to decide. The job is hard...and you pay for it sometimes. Your price thus far is cheap right now. If this little thing is going to grip you and you let it yank you down...go back to Earth."

Lillia's eyes flashed. A Nickko never gives up, never goes home. Not until the job is done. She turned to Jelena and nodded, "I know that. I know that my name, my reputation is no longer credible and I don't care. I never cared. My mother cares, god knows she cares...but I don't. I'm doing what I love to do and that's all I want anymore."
She stared back straight ahead. "You're right Jelena. I've been feeling sorry for myself, taking teh blame when I should be fighting alongside you. I can do this job. I know I can. And there's nothing left for me on Earth. I'll stay here..."
She smiled soflty, though it didn't reach her eyes. "Thanks Jelena for the kick I needed...." then she turned and walked back into the office where she sat down and started to work with renewed energy.

Jelena shook her head as Lilia left, looking back to the massive canine who was being a gentle giant. "She can't lie well, can she? I know, don't I? Because she's not the only one who used to hide their hurt like that, is she?" A scratch at his muzzle. This Echo was her first success, the one in the picture of her when she was younger, thus why he seemed so very comfortable with her. "I've come a ways, haven't I friend?"
A howl and a bark got both their attention and she looked over to see the alpha female with her pups, waiting expectantly for her mate. So a final pat to a large wet nose, and her hand got licked affectionately. "Go on now, before she gets upset." And as he padded off, Jelena pulled her hands back and crossed her arms. Pity she spoke to Lilia through personal private experience.

He looked at Erik.
"Oh come on, I can use a cute term every once in awhile. most times I call her Jel or Jelena. And if she likes the name that works too. she needs all the help to get through this I can give her."

Erik merely gave him a smirk. "Aw, James Moira...not above using cute things to get girls in a good mood. How sweet." It was slightly patronizing yet slightly not...and odd combination meant to poke but not to offend. A snort and a shake of his head. "Jellybean...why didn't I ever think of that one? It's genious...maybe because I don't like beans...yeah, that would make sense."
But he cleared his throat at his own babbling, took a moment to tug at his Fleet issue security gear. Damn uncomfortable. Though then he got serious, a sense of meloncholy in his voice. "In the coming weeks...she's going to need all she can get." But that was as much as he was going to tell James on that. If Trevy wanted to tell him, then she could. It wasn't Erik's place.

"You're just jealous that you didn't think of it first."
Then a look to Lillia.
"How's teh file system coming? think we'll be able to keep her organized finally?"

Lillia didn't hear him adn she didn't answer. She simply continued to organize the files. She was off in her own little world determined to get the entire system in order. Jelena had given her quite a bit of work to catch up on during the three months she was away and she intended to get it all done.
She stood up and started rifling through the filing cabinet searching vainly for the one she was looking for. Nowhere to be found. She went through all the odds and ends on her desk and found nothing. Crawling onto her knees she finally found the file on teh foor beneath her desk and sat back down, shoving her hair out of her eyes and began to search through the documents inside.

Walking, always walking. Never knowing where, never knowing why, but always one foot after the other... Wait a moment, two feet? Two? but there are five lights. Then there must be some something in the air, maybe... Two?
The noise of Tempest's head coliding into the closing door echoed throughout the hall. The kitten was soft and furry, but his bones were made of tougher stuff than dragon scales. He rolled to the side, and looked about him. Where was he, and how did he get here?
Mommy? "Mew?"
Oh, the pain, how do the lesser being deal with feeling such... Pain. "Mew mew." He sat where he was, and waited for the throbing to stop. The sound of the door opening did not phased him, and the foot that kicked him was mostly unfelt. His wings did not react to the stimulous and he could not remember why he was no longer sitting on the ground. THe door closed and the cat opened his eyes widely.
He could not see. "MEW?" The sound of his limb body impacting the wall woke him from his delirium, but he still seemed to be blind. He tried to open his eyes again, and then realized that he could see. The thousands of shapes that made up the universe. Hundreds of millions. Millions of millions. They were all before him and he could control them all, they would obey his commands, they worshiped him as a god! "Mew." He laughed, the insanity of power setting into his being, the strength he held over the world, the ability to smite all who dare oppose him! The madness settled, and he was left feeling, invigorated.
Then, the strangest thing happened, he was flying over a large mountain, to a spot where he knew mother to be, but she was not there. He looked about and called for her with all his strength, "MOTHER!" But, alas, no one returned his pleas. He was alone, all by himself, without another soul in the universe. He looked about and felt the utter emptiness of deep space.
Just as suddenly as the mountain appeared, a man tall and dark appeared before him, and laughed as evily as one could imagine. The man had metallic limbs, and eyes that seemed to draw out the souls of the living. He was eating the other animals from the lab, one by one, making sure that each part was chewed eagerly and maliciously. The sight scared Tempest, and his fur began to feel moist and sticky. Then, the realization of his perdicament was know to him...
He was in a cotton candy machine. The fluffy supstance clung to his fur, and tried to steal his cute appeal. The smell was atrocious, and the texture unbarable. The sound of the machine spining began to drive Tempest up the wall. The wall seemed very tall indeed, but at the top he would be free from his capture.
Then, he realized another truth. This was no simple and ordinary wall, it was the leg of one of the military personal... Except he wore silly make-up and smelled of fish. Tempest watched the face grow in size until it seemed to consume the entire planet. Planet?
Tempest was clinging onto the military man for dear life, until the nose on the face seemed to claim him, draging him trough a giant layer of popcorn, and past a series of cakes designed to look and mimic living creatures. At the end of the line of cakes, stood a simple rat.
A Space Rat.
Tempest had been abducted by alien space rats and forced to run through a gauntlet of experiements to test him of his weaknesses! Now that he was aware of this, he realized that the only thing he could do was... Was...
He did not know! But soon he would figure out!
Soon, so very soon, those space rats were going to pay.
Then he felt very soft and warm, and lifted his head and opened his eyes again. He was still somewhere on Keipiopolis. Or somewhere similar. Oh, a dream.
Cool.
He put his head back down, and drifted back to sleep after coughing a few times.

He let Erik work security from Jelena's desk, walking to Lillia and settling down by her.
"You alright? I'm sorry for how I acted before. I really am. I got far too carried away. I hope you'll forgive me about that."
A bit of silence.
"Well...how's the system coming? think it'll work with our absentminded scientist?"

She glanced up at him, was quiet for a moment adn then said, "There's nothing to forgive James. You did what you thought was best for the situation and in your place I would have done the same."
A hand through her hair and she looked at the array of files on her desk, sticky notes spread out and the one typewritten sheet that explained it all. "Probably not but I think it's definitely worth a try."
Another beat of silence and she took a deep breath, "I'm sorry I put everything you love in danger James. You...really care for her don't you?" A flicker of pain in those blue eyes before it was gone. That was obvious and Lillia had no idea why she was torturing herself so she shook her head. "You don't have to answer that...just forget I asked. But I am happy...for both of you."

"I care about everyone on the fleet. too many people made this place home. most don't have anything left to go back to. and the echoes..they've done nothing to deserve death or enslavement in weapons research programs."
A glance to teh echo labs.
"I do care for her very much. and I won't see what she has left ripped from her. As for me..I've nothing left to go back to. nothign but sitting on a military base waiting for my upgrades, and hoping I don't become to expensive to maintain or obsolete. which means they'd let me slowly die while the bioware becomes too old, to out of date to support my human parts."
Then a small grin at her work.
"Well at least we're getting somewhere. we'll get that woman organized yet."
at the Area 51 facility...project Lazerus is about to get underway, again. the body was built, prepared, ready to go. now they just needed to hope that this one didn't have a siezure, stroke, anyurism, or simply suicide itself. at least they gotten the transplant part down really good by now. seventeen tries will do that.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, sir? I mean...if this works, they'll send him."
"So? if it works, it's nobel prizes and huge paychecks and all the backing and resources will ever need."
"They hated eachother. they send him there's bound to be a major confrontation. Are you really willing to risk suceeding in teh process and then having him..or the commander..killed for it?"
"The commander is old news. out of date, a relic. for christ sake they pulled out everything from that fleet vessel except basic maintenance. there won't be a contest with our boy here."
"I see once again you neglect to mention he is a borderline homicidal lunatic."
"Borderline. not one though. and besides, we can fix that in programing interfacing."
"Last time we tried that it liquidated half the subject's brain."
"Okay, if it fails, I won't try it again. it's not like he's got much to live for anyway. I mean he's fed through a tube, his waste is shipped out by the same means, and he can't maove anything from teh neck down at all. hell can't even feel anything."
"yes and we both know why."
"You saying he deserved that?"
"You're damn straight he did. how many men died becuase this guy ignored everyone's proffesional opinions? if he'd paid attention to reports, not nearly so many might have been lost."
"Oh quit with the bleeding heart. give me the saw. we're going to do this. like it or not."

"Neither do I." She said it fiercely and her hands actually clenched into fists before she realized and relaxed. "Jelena ahs done more for me than anyone else I've ever known. She has been there for me and she believed I was innocent. To me that's more valuable than anything else. The Echos are her world."
Another glance at the files and she laughed, "Or she'll just screw up my system and reinstate her own chaos."
