Route 1 is a pretty route by the shore leading you to Nuvema Town in the south; Accumula Town in the north; and Route 17 in the east. This is the first route to travel on in Unova, and the first opportunity to catch Pokémon. Unlike most areas, it has some plants which differ depending on the season. You won't be able to fully explore the route and access Route 17 until you receive HM03 Surf.
Wild Pokemon appear anywhere from Lv.l 2 to Lv. 4, while Pokemon in the dark grass appear around Lv. 32 to Lv. 35.

Perfect weather for easing one's way along the grassy road between Nuvema and Accumula at a comfortable 67 degrees. A couple clouds are passing overhead, giving brief shade from the sunshine, and just looking fluffy otherwise.
A lone scientist is studying and searching for Pokémon footprints along the route, and has taken to asking Trainers for help and providing them with supplies to get started.

Idly going over notes on a clipboard, a gentleman in a white lab coat minded his own business. There was nothing exciting going on around, and that elicited a sigh from him. Peeling his gaze away from his notes, the scientist pushed up a broad pair of spectacles that were in a perpetual state of slowly sliding down the bridge of his nose. While he stood at an unimpressive 5' 8", he made more of an impression than he probably wanted. "I've been up and down this route dozens of times, I've been ambushed by several wild Pokémon, all to no avail. There is just no sign of any activity in this region of Unova."
A short ways ahead of the scientist, a Sentret poked its head above the top of the grass, and briefly looked around. The scientist watched it for as long as it was above the grass, and snapped his fingers once. On command, the Sentret ducked back down and made its way to him. "Anything? he asked the Pokémon. The Sentret shook its head no. "Thought so. Even with the help of my Pokémon, I still couldn't find a thing." Smiling at his Sentret, the scientist pulled out a Poké Ball, and called the creature inside. After clipping the sphere to his belt, the scientist took one last look around, and spotted someone coming onto the route from Nuvema. "Maybe they can be of assistance... It wouldn't hurt to ask," he muttered to himself quietly as he slipped his clipboard into a pocket inside his coat. And with the notes safely tucked away, he waited for whoever it was to get closer.
"Excuse me, are you perhaps a Trainer? Maybe you can help me."

SPEAKINGTHINKING The teenager slowed down to a fast walk while his starter bounded up next to him. Sen was breathing heavily, having been at a bit of a disadvantage with his smaller legs. Still he wanted to keep up. It made him feel weak when his trainer had to slow down so he could sprint up next to her again. “Good job. We’ll work on your run so don’t worry if you couldn’t keep up this time.” The trainer said with a comforting smile before scooping up the Oshawott as he caught his breath. He didn’t really mind being carried, it as nice, and the view was better. He didn’t have to crane his neck to look up at anything. Sen could get used to it.
The brunette smiled, giving the water type a quick good job peck on his head before roaming forward, looking around eagerly for his beloved Pokémon. A lillipup would’ve been nice. Herdiers were the cutest thing ever. That or a zigzagoon. He was curious to see what they were like for real. The designs make them look almost like porcupines. Bright eyes darted around excitedly, ready for his first encounter. Of course, her search was stopped when she heard another voice calling out for attention. Glancing around for the source, he spotted an NPC. A scientist actually. What was he doing outside the lab? “Yeah. Depends on the help, Sir.”She replied, eyeing the man and then the Sentret. “I thought everyone on Professor Juniper’s staff were back at the lab.” She added, her curiosity piqued.

Ruby had quickly managed to sprint out of the vast town of Nuvema, leaving behind him a cool breeze, as the compressed air of his shoes propelled him forward. He was staring at the picture he took with Sapphire back at the lab, and while the quality was superb, there was a problem with it. Ruby was smiling his character's caring smile he only really showed to Sapphire, the latter of which, in the picture, had a bandana over one eye. He personally found it hilarious and endearing, which his mind seemed to agree with, but the messiness of her outfit was something he was going to have to fuss over later.
At the speed he was sprinting at, it would be difficult trying to get the camera lens to focus properly to take a snapshot of the scenery, which he would have loved to enjoy. The problem was, White had already gone off, and although they had their Xtransceivers and Pokemon, you couldn't be too careful. He wasn't sure exactly what was wrong with the Pokerus in the game, but it was apparently affecting the Pokemon somehow. That bit of information reminded him of something out on the outside world, but at this moment, he couldn't put it together. After exiting out of the camera's program, he would stare about the numerous trees.
There were various Pokemon out and about, some of them had been Pidoves, like the one he found ontop of him when he had entered the game. While others had been Starly's, and that wasn't even counting the kind of Pokemon that weren't nested comfortably in the trees. All in all, the route was different then what he remembered it to be in both iterations of Pokemon Black and White, in which there seemed to be more variety of Pokemon around, and not just Patrat and Lilipups. Feeling a tug at the back of his mind, Ruby looked ahead to see what looked like White, and some scientist talking. He stopped once he was close.
"White, there you are! Prof.Juniper said we were supposed to stick together. She didn't do anything reckless did she?" he had asked the scientist, looking around the area for any damage. He hadn't heard what the scientist had said to her, having arrived a bit later than the girl, which really couldn't be helped at all. Regardless of whether or not the girl actually had done something, Ruby had snapped a few photos, having wanted to do so for his scrapbook collection. Most of the pictures he took were of the Pokemon on the route itself, although a few had been of the girl and the scientist.
As soon as the girl mentioned about Prof. Juniper's staff being back at the lab, he merely chuckled. "Oho, I don't work for the Professor, I'm just a scientist. I enjoy the outdoors... I can't be cooped up in a lab all day," he said, a hint of disdain in his voice. "What I need help with is finding something." And once he said that, a boy clad in red and black came breezing up to them. He asked if the girl, White, had done anything reckless. "Actually, no she didn't. The girl -- White, as you called her -- only got here but a moment before you. Oh! You can help too!" the scientist exclaimed. For once he thought his luck was taking a turn for the better today.
"What I'm looking for is Pokémon tracks. Footprints." Should he tell them exactly what he's looking for? Probably not, they did just happen to be passing by, but he felt it was alright that they know it's just a single specie. "I've got a bunch of scientist friends, and we're all looking around Unova for a particular Pokémon." Taking a quick gaze around the route, the scientist made a mental note of the various avian Pokémon again to refresh his memory. "I've never seen it personally, so I'm looking for any footprints that aren't usually here in the route."
Then another question formed in his mind. "Um... is that the only Pokémon you have?" he asked, placidly pointing at White's Oshawott. "If so, then maybe you could do yourself a favor and catch a few Pokémon to strengthen your team." He reached around inside his lab coat, and unhooked a small pouch and opened it up. "Here, I'll give you some extra Poké Balls, and Potions too, just in case. I can let you have five of both, and the same goes for your, uh, friend in the hat." The scientist nodded at Ruby, as if to emphasize his offer to the boy.

• • • Sapphire meandered down the path that trailed through the route. Tall grass was plentiful o her right, with scenic waters to her left. She could hear the near and far off calls of wild Pokémon, and once again she was amazed at the realism of the game. She wanted to take her time moseying through, which was something she never, ever was able to do around the farm. She smiled to herself, looking down at her heels to see Helium looking up at her as she walked. It would have been unnerving to her how intently he gazed at her, but she had grown up with much fiercer animals. This though, she reminded herself, was a Pokémon. Artificial Intelligence, to be exact. The animation of this virtual reality game was stunning, but the real value was in its programming. Sapphire had to wonder just how complex the system truly was.
She was startled back to her senses when a wild pidove scrambled from some grass she had walked too close too and flew off into the air. Helium immediately tensed letting out a sharp huff as he took the initiative to jump ahead, standing guard. Sapphire smiled and nudged him with her foot, causing him to look back quickly at her. She pointed up into the direction the flying type had gone, and the little chick followed her finger with his eyes. When he registered what had happened, his down poofed out slowly until it reached a crescendo, where he shook vigorously and went back to his normal size. Chickens on her farm did this regularly, and she chuckled a bit at the likeness.
Soon they continued on, until she finally spotted familiar figures. When she quietly made her way over, she was catching the latter part of the scientist's conversation. She walked up from behind Ruby, looking over his shoulder to see the items he got. Suddenly she felt a spar of interest and looked to the scientist.I couldn't help but overhear. May I assist you as well? She asked, mostly offering for a chance at item gets, but also because this may be an opportunity she may not have again.
The scientist looked up at the newest voice to join the entourage. "Well, sure, I could use all the help I can get," he said to the girl in blue. He briefly glanced down the road towards Nuvema to see if there was anyone else coming his way, and made a quick hum as soon as he saw that it was clear. "I've got some extra Poké Balls and Potions still, so I can give you some as well," he said, extending the bag that held the items mentioned. For such a nice day, it's almost puzzled the scientist why there wasn't all that many wild Pokémon just sauntering around, but with knowing what's out in the wilderness answered his question before it could even be voiced.
"I hope you kids have better luck than I am, I've only found the footprints of Pokémon that are already here, including some that aren't native to Unova," he said, pushing his glasses up on his face again. The sunshine caused a brief glint to flash across his spectacles, and as soon as he let go, his glasses began another slow descent down his face yet again. "I could let you know what's here in Route 1, so that could help in looking for something out of the ordinary." He really hoped that he'd be able to find what he was looking for, and he also hoped that these kids could find something that he overlooked.

Please do, Sapphire encouraged the man before the other player answered, stepping around Ruby to get her items. She knew the Pokemon that were indigenous to the area, but she had no idea what other Pokémon were here. She was curious as to what kind of Pokémon lived around here. She was never one to keep the Pokémon she caught upon initial takeoff later in the game, but wanted to be on the safe side in case she needed more than one Pokémon for a battle or something of the like.
Another point of interest to her was the exact Pokémon that this scientist hunter was after. To be willing to pick up strangers to hunt for some footprints must mean he was pretty desperate. This Pokémon must be pretty rare around the area for him to be so deeply interested in finding it's tracks. As Sapphire studied the man to take in his movements, she had to remind herself that this was an NPC. She was still amazed at the realism put into the game, down to the NPC's personalities.
Calem noticed the others as he entered the route and quickly ran up to see what the others were doing. There appeared to be a couple of players there and someone he didn't recognize, a man who looked like a scientist. He slowed down as he approached them as Mozilla let out a sigh of happiness"Kin!" Mozilla cried out as he approached the others. Calem walked up to the others and waved at them"Hey there everyone!He said then regarded the scientist."Hey there sir. Do you need any help?
"Because friends are everywhere!"

Hearing that the brown-haired girl hadn't done anything wrong to be questioned by a scientist, Ruby had sighed in relief, taking his attention away from his camera. So the npc needed their help for something? Whether or not it was actually useful didn't quite matter to him, as the crimson-eyed boy would simply do it out of kindness. White on the other hand, he couldn't really be sure of, since she had gone out on her own, even though they were supposed to stick together. Understandable since Pokemon has been a solo game for years, but this was technically an Mmo they were in right now.
Being around real people and taking a little breather now and then wouldn't hurt. Although he hasn't seen Green yet, Ruby was pretty sure even the "Trainer" allowed a break to talk to people. The scientist had started to tell him and White about what he was looking for, footprints. The details were pretty vague, and could have been any type of Pokemon, with the only useful hint being that it shouldn't have normally been on this route. That didn't help at all, but Ruby was still going to be polite about it, nodding his head in agreement. "Alright, I'll try my best to help out." he said to the scientist, who questioned White.
The man seemed concerned about Oshawott currently being the only member on her team, which was again understandable, since the guy was probably hoping for experienced trainers to help him out with this kind of research. He watched as the scientist offered her a couple of free pokeballs and potions, before turning to him, and doing the same thing. Ruby had taken it of course, since they were a gift, and he didn't recall Prof.Juniper giving them any to start out with. "Thanks, appreciate it. More of our friends are headed this way as well, by the way, so they could probably help too." he had said.
That was when he noticed a familiar voice spoke out behind him, and Ruby turned to see Sapphire, his eyes lighting up from her appearance. "Here's one now. Glad to see you made it." he teased. His mind was nagging him about her appearance, where her bandana was clearly tied up in haste, and clothes could have been ironed up better. The only thing that was keeping him from fussing over it right now though, was the Torchic that was standing near her. He pretty much knew from his own readings on the outside world, that fire types could be pretty protective of their trainers, and he frankly didn't want to get burnt.
The scientist had accepted her help, like he thought the man would, before giving her the free potions and pokeballs as well. Sapphire being here seemed to encourage the man to start saying more, although it was still vague on what he was looking for. He had only gave more hints about what he found on the route, and not the Pokemon itself. Ruby watched as Sapphire stepped past him to claim her freebies, and after she was done, he had gone over, informing her and the scientist what he already knew. "Well, back in Hoenn, I remember reading about Lilipup, Pidove, and Patrat dominating the area here."
His character normally didn't deal with superficial matters, but he wasn't getting that nagging at the back of his head so far. He could only guess it was because it was right to help the man, who gave them these free items. "I've seen Ratata and Starly on my way up here though, so we could probably mark them off the list." Ruby was going to say more on the matter, when he heard another familiar voice, and turned around to see Calem, who was still as energetic as ever. "And there's another one. Hey Calem." he waved at the boy, who came over with his Fennekin.
Diamond onto Route 1 right behind a boy in a red had and blue clothes a strange fox-like Pokemon that he had never seen before. Maybe both of them were from a newer game as well?He and quite a few of the other Trainers seemed to be talking to some guy in a lab coat with a Sentret. He seemed to be giving things out to everyone, but Diamond couldn't tell what. He checked for Crystal behind him before going up and joining the group. "What are we all doing here?" he wondered out loud.

SPEAKINGTHINKING Emir stopped in his tracks staring at the NPC with interest. He nodded once or twice about to open his mouth for a quick response. Something snippy like, ‘Yes of course I’m a Pokémon trainer. That or my drugs are kicking in and this Oshawott isn’t real’. Of course that would have been EXTREMELY rude and he wasn’t in such an irritated state that he felt the need to utter such things aloud. Before he responded with something more polite Ruby dashed in and he scowled. How’d they caught up so fast? “Took you long enough.” The girl said dryly, careful to pronounce each syllable loud and clear. “Who are you my mother?” the brunette snapped, irritated that some brat had called her reckless. Please. If anything he was the most capable of taking care of himself. He was old enough. Not that being 22 was INCREDIBLY old but old enough. He could drink and drive, separately of course.
He resisted the urge to tell Sen to pounce on the boy. Again, good mood here. No need to completely ruin the vibe, though the kid was trying pretty hard. He only nodded at the scientist smiling politely to make sure he knew she was only really irritated at the other trainer. Graciously taking the items, she stored them in her pack before winking at Sen. Soon they’d have more lovely little team mates. Oh God he couldn’t wait! He glanced at Sapphire as she made her arrival and shrugged. The scientist looked like he needed all the help he could get if he was asking random trainers for assistance and giving them free supplies without even so much as a ‘Yes I would gladly spend an hour helping you, kind stranger.’ He nodded in agreement with Sapphire. The guy was being too vague about what he wanted, and Emir was more of a cut to the chase kind of guy. The Sapphire chick seemed to think more or less the same way. He could admire that. “Gal.” he whispered trying to wrap his head around this strange predicament. Could he even call it that?
Perfect! The trainer turned to look at Calem before nodding at him. Finally, a trainer that had yet to rub him the wrong way. “Nice of you to catch up. Ready to catch something?” she said, patting her pack happily before nodding in the direction of the scientist. “He’s going to help us make our new teams, in exchange for finding special footprints. I guess.” The brunette continued explaining, shifting his focus to the player that called himself Diamond. Sen sniffed the air before turning to look at the tall grass, ready to pounce on Emir’s command. Stretching her arms above her head, she let out a quick yawn before dropping them back down and turning back to Sapphire and Ruby. “Listen kid, I don’t need some pint sized punk thinking acting as my personal handler. Thanks but no thanks I’ve got this.” Emir warned Ruby, keeping his voice as level as possible. “That’s goes the same for EVERYONE present.” Emir added quickly, turning to stare down at ever trainer present. Without another word he turned back to the scientist, anxious to get a move on.

Diana caught up to Chris, seeing the number of other people on the route. "Wow...how are we expected to properly find pokemon or raise our levels with this much traffic? It'll scare the pokemon..." She said to Chris, though it was barely audible. She could already tell she was going to avoid talking with the brunette. So far she hadn't heard a single thing from the girl that she would consider justification to get to know her. 'Talk about a royal pain.' She thought to herself, shaking her head some.

Whiteley's comments would have made Sapphire chuckle a bit if the girl hadn't called her a slacker earlier. Not that she was one to hold grudges, but that one had stung a bit. But, the light brunette was glad that the darker haired girl only seemed to agree with her. With no apparent conflicts to distract her, Sapphire was able to catch Ruby's comment about Starly and Ratata, before he mentioned another trainer. Turning her head slightly, Sapphire saw Calem, as well as Diamond just a bit behind. Helium fluffed out his feathers a it before shaking violently to make them go back to normal in an aggressive way upon their arrival, but Sapphire quickly shot him a glance to warn him to be good and he settled down.
Whiteley answered Diamond and Calem's questions before stretching and turning to Ruby and herself. At the girl's warning comment to the white hat wearing teen (or pre-teen), she had to cover her mouth with one hand to hide the smirk that grew there, though it reached her eyes enough to make them squint. Whiteley then turned in an impatient huff back to the scientist, apparently awaiting an answer. Not that Sapphire could blame her. She wanted to get into this game soon, the prospect of what was ahead of them was just too exciting to have to wait for. Fixing her bandana unsuccessfully, she turned her bright blues onto Ruby,
She sure told you. She said in a quiet tone, but not so quiet that it was a whisper. She made sure to keep her expression blank so that that the boy couldn't see her amusement.

Calem was a bit shocked at hearing how nicely White was talking to him especially nicely after hearing her talk to Ruby so rudely. He held back his laughter from her comments to Ruby as he noticed a girl who looked like Diamond heading there way. He gave her a slight wave and a smile and collected the gear from the scientist and looked at the grass, 'I can't wait to get in there and see how this game really worked."Well, I for one can't wait to help to help you mister." he said to the scientist with a chipper tone.
"Because friends are everywhere!"
