 The paths and grounds that lay between and connect the various buildings of the school.
The grounds are grassy, with a few stone paths connecting the main buildings. The lake lies in the center of the open fields, the bell tower standing sentry behind it. In the winter, snow covers the grass and the lake freezes over.
The grounds are open, allowing various forms of wildlife to populate the campus. Security hunts down anything dangerous, but allows such fauna as deer and rabbits to run freely around the fields.
Spaced along the stone paths are streetlamps to illuminate the grounds after dark. After the midnight curfew, the lamps turn off, as all students ought to be inside at that hour.
Don't stay out too late.

~Prince Cosmo Katamari~The Littlest Prince of the StarsCosmo rolled out to the grounds, looking around for sticks or a grownup. He needed a chair, and there was certainly nothing the Academy had in the spare equipment shed that would work for him. He rolled his katamari ball over a few promising looking sticks, and headed down to the shores of the lake to see what he could find as far as a nice smooth stone to make the sitty part out of. This was fun! He rolled along, humming his good-morning tune, and waving at the trickle of students who walked by him to set up their dorms. Most of them didn't see him, he was too small. But that was ok! They had all year to get to know each other. Cosmo resumed his humming, and kept looking for a stone.

Do not ask the price I paid, I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head that run wild and wish me dead A tall, lean boy sat in the shade of a tree at the edge of the lake, watching the arriving students for signs of people he knew. Most importantly, he watched for signs of Sherlock and Maeza... mostly Mae. It was imperative he get to Mae before Viola did, lest Viola break the news before he could. He stretched his arms up to the nearest branch, his shirt lifting up a bit. The burn scars stretched over most his torso and, though he kept them covered, his arms and shoulders too. They didn't hurt anymore. The most visibly jarring memento of the war he had were his eyes, bled of shadow from black to gray, and his hair, which had inexplicably become lighter. Was it changing to a color? He had no way to know, and no one at home would appreciate it if it was; all Lurkers were colorblind. Tom swung his arms back down from the branch to rest with a thump at his sides. He stared out across the lake, waiting for them. Waiting for her. He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to figure out exactly how to break the news. His foot tapped impatiently as the shadows grew longer, the sun rose higher, and the day wore on. The prince began to wonder if he could track Mae down elsewhere... but she didn't cast a shadow. Son of the gods be damned straight to hell... He slouched against the trunk of his tree, staring out at the surface of the lake and the paths beyond it. "Welcome back to hell, folks," he said dismally to a passing student, realizing it was Cosmo. "Oh. Hey, Coz. See you at dinner?"Tom swung up into the tree to avoid conversation with the motormouthed star prince. He didn't feel like talking to anyone until he could get to Mae. Should you shake my ash to the wind, forget all of my sins Just let me die where I lie 'neath the curse of my lover's eyes

╔══════════════╗ Vincent Milano Ⅱ ιʟ ᴅucᴀ ᴅι ᴛᴏscᴀɴᴀ ╚══════════════╝ Vincent, though he hadn't been too keen on leaving the comforts of home, was at least glad that the long car ride was over with. He'd lost track of how many hours he spent cooped up in the black coach on his way from Italy, but now that he was here he could finally stretch his legs and breathe the fresh air. Taking off his traveling cap, he ran his fingers through his hair and sighed, the blue sapphires of his eyes scanning around the place. The grounds were nice enough, and he could see the bold edifice of the Academy buildings in the distance. Behind him, a handful of servants waited with bags and carts of his belongings, waiting to bring them up to his room. "We should be moving along, Your Grace," came the smooth voice of Jasper, his principal guardian. To this Vincent merely nodded, sighing as he started walking up the paths toward the residence hall, looking to find his room and get unpacked so that he could get them all out of his hair.

 ☆═━Maeza Lee━═☆ ❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖
Maeza's summer had gone relatively well. She didn't go home for obvious reasons, but spent the time in a hotel in the town. She and Tom had communicated a bit at first, but then he stopped replying. Maeza attributed it to the fact that he was back home and was busy.
The Night Fairy had checked out of the hotel that morning and was making the trip to the school, newly grown wings fluttering behind her. They were still in the process of healing, so the color was a bit off. Maeza was softly humming a random tune as she made her way to the Academy. She thought again of seeing Tom and couldn't help but smile. She waved at Cosmo and was about to strike up a conversation when movement in the tree caught her eye. She looked over and grinned when she was who it was.
"Tom!" she yelled, abandoning her luggage as she shot up. She misjudged the distance and ended up crashing into the Shadowlurker. She wrapped her arms tightly around him as they fell, partially as a hug and partially out of instinct. They fell into the shallows of the lake, Maeza on top of Tom and both of them soaked. "Oh my god, are you okay?" she gasped. Her eye patch had shifted just a bit in the fall and she was quick to readjust it.

Do not ask the price I paid, I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head that run wild and wish me dead "s**t SON OF A GOD DAMNED—" Tom plummeted backwards, seizing Mae around the waist as they crashed into the lake. Since it had been she who knocked into him, he bore the brunt of the impact into the lake's shallows. Coughing and spluttering, yet refusing to let her go, he shook the water off his head and spat out the lungful of air he'd taken in for laughing. "I'm good," he said, finding her eyes. Or, at least, the one that remained. "You still look like a pirate." He smiled at her before the weight in his heart dropped and shattered again. "Erm, hey. Listen, so... there's something we need to talk about," he said, straightening up and pulling the fairy to her feet. "Remember those letters that I didn't send you? Of course you don't, I didn't send them, er, nevermind, the point is—"He took a deep breath. "Look, I'm really sorry. It's not my choice, you have to understand it's not, and please don't hate me because I, I would HATE that, and—" Tom hung his head. No matter what he did, he just could not spit it out. "I love... hanging out with you and I love... being friends with you, but..."He stared down at his shadow, detesting every single ounce of the man who was sure to be watching through it. "I'm really sorry. We can't be together."Should you shake my ash to the wind, forget all of my sins Just let me die where I lie 'neath the curse of my lover's eyes

Prince Sherlock of Brightenvale♚▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄♔ Sherlock gazed out the window of the carriage as it made its way through the gates and into the school grounds- he would’ve scoffed at the thought of arriving this way normally, it seemed so distastefully old-fashioned. All of it. Had he not been on thin ice already with not only his mother but most of the court as well, he wouldn’t stubbornly declined. Still, it was better than arriving with his brother giving him sour looks as he pushed unwanted patronizing advice into the half-hearted conversation every chance he got. The dark-haired prince shifted his gaze to his current companion, much more amiable than any family member he could think of. The girl was unnaturally quiet for the last several minutes, then again, it seemed that she gave more time to silence these days than before.
He couldn’t tell whether or not it was a welcome change. The horses made a steady rhythm with their hooves as they moved to the open grounds and his blue eyes surveyed the changes. There were little traces of the damage here and there, not things that seemed off to the untrained eye, little things- a missing tree, for example, or a mark on the belltower that had not been there before. Observing had always been a talent of his, but he doubted the changes would make such a large impression if it didn’t make the whole place feel… different, less familiar and secure. His blank expression shifted momentarily toward irritation at the thought that such minute changes matters, and he untrained his eyes from the new lake to look back at the quiet elven girl.
“I haven’t seen you this quiet since your mother started on that tirade about nuptials.” He remarked, nearly groaning at the memory of the rant. It had been, aside from the general call for socialization, his least favorite part of the none-too-gently encouraged summer visit that had just come to a close.

"Sorry," Maeza said with her own smile. She brushed a wet curl out of Tom's face as they sat in the water and then pushed her own wet locks out of the way. She smiled again, and opened her mouth to mention her wings when the look on Tom's face stopped her. The Night Fairy frowned in concern as she was helped to her feet. Rarely had she ever seen Tom this serious and it worried her.
As Maeza listened and slowly realized what was going on, her heart sank. Any reminisce of a smile on her face vanished and was replaced by a cool mask of neutrality. When Tom finally finished and got his point across, Maeza nodded slowly. She didn't answer for a few moments. Eventually, she looked up and forced herself to smile. "I could never hate you, Tom. Never. And we'll still be friends, so...it was wonderful while it lasted," she said, somehow keeping her tone even as her throat closed up. She swallowed thickly and looked down again, blinking furiously.

 ﻬஐﻬ ஐﻬ ஐﻬ Princess Amaranthஐﻬ ஐﻬ ஐﻬ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Like Sherlock, Amaranth had taken to watching the scenery pass by through the carriage window as the entered the school grounds. Even though the grounds had been cleaned, she could still see where the carnage had taken place, where bodies had been. The scars of the land were obvious to the elf. She ended up closing her eyes, no longer wishing to look outside.
The summer had been rather unique for Amaranth. Sherlock's mother and her own had somehow made contact and arranged for Sherlock to visit her kingdom for a couple of weeks and ride back to the Academy with her. It had simultaneously been the highlight of Amaranth's summer and the worst part. Everyday, the elven queen would drop not-so-subtle hints about the two of them getting married someday. She frowned slightly at the thought an pushed is away.
Sherlock's familiar voice cut through her thoughts and Amaranth opened her eyes and focused them on Sherlock. "I've learned to not talk during those. Right now, I didn't see a reason to speak...would you like to talk?" she asked. Conversing with the human was always something Amaranth ended up enjoying, though it certainly didn't always start that way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope I will be remembered as someone who sees the world in a unique way....
 Viola stood for a moment leering after her fiancée before losing her tightly-clenched grip on the parasol she held and letting out a quiet sigh. So this was how things were going to be, hmm? She had resigned herself to so much recently that giving up on fighting against the animosity he held for her was almost too easy. Her black eyes, still squinting from the light, shifted around to take in the assortment of students; the boys, the two from the carriage, the mouse of a boy that called out in a loud, high voice… and the girl who stood crying. Her lips twitched downward into a frown. A flicker of sympathy coursed through her that she wished she could push aside, tinged with jealousy that the creature could try so openly. Were people not expected to keep tears for their private hours here? She spent a long while looking at the girl with the short blond hair with wide eyes, wondering what sort of creature she was, where she had come from. She shifted in her place, wanting to approach but unnerved by the small gathering of students around her. Biting her lip, she decided to hold back- there would be plenty of time, they had all year after all. She tore her eyes from the scene and darted off in quick little steps to the shadow of a large tree before vanishing into it, headed for her room and hopefully a little less sunlight. [Exit to dorm]
Do not ask the price I paid, I must live with my quiet rage Tame the ghosts in my head that run wild and wish me dead Tom heard her voice from behind him and cringed mightily. Blinking away the pain, he turned around to face her. "Oh for king's sake, Viola, you couldn't wait ten seconds? Ten pitching seconds?"He stepped forward into the light, placing himself between Viola and Maeza. "Mae, this is the absolute light of my life," he said harshly, staring Viola down. "The lady Viola Edendottir. We're engaged to be married. Eventually. Maybe." Hopefully not. Not if he had any say about it... which, to be honest, it didn't look like he did. But he had to hope. He crossed his arms, refusing to let either get near the other. The light was harsh and Mae's enchanted shirt was all he had to fight against it, but he wasn't about to budge. "Viola, you know damn well who this is, don't you dare start that passive aggressive crap."Should you shake my ash to the wind, forget all of my sins Just let me die where I lie 'neath the curse of my lover's eyes
An unfamiliar voice made Maeza look up in confusion. Her gaze flitted back and forth from Tom and the new girl. Obviously they knew each other...and obviously Tom wasn't happy to see her. Maeza did her best to hide her light annoyance with the girl, but that grew ten times harder when she learned exactly to whom she was speaking. The Night Fairy wasn't sure exactly what to say. She reached towards Tom, hoping to pull him back into the shade before he hurt himself, but soon realized he wasn't going to move. She recognized that shirt she'd given him, and, while she was glad to see that he wore it, she knew it wasn't enough.
  Gearvin strolled out into the sun, already regretting leaving his nice, cool room. At least it wasn't too hot? He quickly manipulated a sphere of cold around himself and sighed. Much better. He scanned around, taking in the other students. He could spot Maeza and Thomas off a way, and he was sure he would see others in a bit. Guh. This heat was going to be the death of him, wasn't it? He took a seat under a tree, thankful for the shade. If anything, it helped to alleviate some of the heat from the sun, and he reclined against the trunk. So, how long was it going to be before it got colder again? He couldn't wait, to be honest. He should really keep a calendar to tell him when the cold and snow was going to arrive.
He spotted a moving bit of green, and smiled to himself. There was Cosmo... gathering sticks? What was the miniature prince doing now? He let out a bit of a chuckle, thinking it was a bit funny that he was at least glad one thing hadn't changed. He waved toward the smaller prince, hoping he could see him from his vantage point. "Hey Cosmo! Long time no see. Um, what are you doing with the sticks?"
~Prince Cosmo Katamari~The Littlest Prince of the StarsCosmo heard someone say his name. He looked up from a particularly promising looking twig to see Gearvin waving at him. Cosmo's little face lit up and he waved back with all his might. He stuck his new stick onto his katamari ball along with the rest and sprint-rolled his way towards his friend. "HI GEARVIN HOW ARE YOU HOW WAS YOUR BREAK I LIKE YOUR FURNITURE DID YOU GET A LITTLE TALLER BECAUSE I DID I GREW A WHOLE HALF INCH NOW WE'RE SHARING A ROOM IT'S GONNA BE GREEEEAAAAAT!"Cosmo spun around in a circle, squealing with glee. "It's so nice to be back!" Ball abandoned, Cosmo ran around Gearvin and the tree at full tilt. "I NEEDED A CHAIR BUT CHAIRS CAN WAIT I HAVE A BED AND STUFF IN MY SHOEBOOOOOOOX!"
“I’ve given you far longer than that.” The girl stated, as though it were really about the length of time which she had waited. “Perhaps, should you have wanted longer, you might’ve asked before we left.” Honestly, he hated the way he dodged her as though she were a sort of plague. It wasn’t as though she had made this arrangement, and yet she could feel an air of spite around her future husband. She had decided early on that two could play at that game. “Pleasure.” She said, glancing briefly to the fairy before returning her attention to the prince’s remarks. “We were engaged this summer, the kingdom is quite excited at the news.” He quiet voice hummed as she stood, fiddling slightly with the handle of her parasol. “Even when one recognizes someone, it’s polite to wait until you are introduced.” Not that Viola was terribly excited to converse with the ex lover of her fiancé. “You’re the only one being aggressive here, Tom.” It was difficult to believe that the two had grown up together with the animosity surrounding them now.
