Introduction


Welcome to Faerûn, a land of amazing magic, terrifying monsters, ancient ruins, and hidden wonders. The world has changed since the Spellplague, and from this arcane crucible have emerged shining kingdoms, tyrannical empires, mighty heroes, and monster-infested dungeons

The setting of this roleplay is going to be a close parallel to the story of 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons. The map is the same, and much of the event, locations, history, and persons will be the same. But since I don't think any of us are 100% versed in all of the varying aspects of Faerun we're going to go ahead and take license with it to change and alter as we please. Also, I'd very much like to avoid having to deal with having notable figures such as Drizzt, Elminster, or many others appear here. So let's pretend that they don't exist for our purposes, or that they're just far to busy to bother with the likes of us.

Members/Character Profiles


PM all applications to either myself: StoicNinja or to creed_master. Since this is a Forgotten Realms/Faerun roleplay feel free to use any playable race from the setting, perhaps even a few others, this will be a pretty open setting.
Keep in mind that while you may feel free to create your character as an established adventurer they are not a superbeing. Your wizard will not be able to call down the power of the sun with a whispered word. Your warrior will not be a blade-god who can draw and strike across vast distances faster than the speed of light. And your archer cannot draw and fire dozens of arrows at once that will move of their own accord through a winding maze of obstacles to strike each and every target squarely through the left nostril. Your characters may be skilled, but they are still mortals and should be treated as such.
If you would like your character to have some form of special ability ask one of our threadmasters about it. We're not opposed to the idea, but we will try to keep it within a realm of realism, so to speak.

Social Standing: Not well. He is something of an outcast because of his orcish heritage. Many adventureres know this to mean nothing though, and trust him to stand fast by their side.

Occupation: Adventurer. Part-time Dockworker.

Personality: He is reserved, largely because he knows that most other people don't want to talk with him because of the stigma associated with his heritage. Among less prejudiced peoples he is often more carefree and easygoing, easily exchanging jokes and jibes.

Likes: A good conversation. Exertion, either from exercise or battle, or other means. A good beer and a hot meal. A hot bath and a soft bed.

Dislikes: Orcs and half-orcs that contribute to the sterotype of them being mindless thugs and brutes. People and monsters that would harm those that are unable to defend themselves.

Hobbies: Training. Chess, he often keeps a small folding board with him and a pouch of wooden pieces. He likes to keep a journal with him that he writes in as if he were writing letters home to his parents, the inside cover is addressed to them and he hopes that it will find its way to them should he ever fall in battle.

Strengths: His strength and his cunning. He is steadfast and determined. Loyal.

Weaknesses: His large frame makes it hard for him to be agile in any way, and his peed is nothing to boast of especially when wearing his armor. He normally tries his best to remain calm and taciturn, but when pushed far enough he has a rage that can only be quelled with violence.

Motivation: He aims to prove to himself and others that he is more than his blood dictates him to be. He wants to help people, and also wants to someday retire in comfort. His ultimate goal is to collect enough gold that he can found a School of Adventuring where he can teach other would-be adventurers the skills they will need to survive in the wilds of Faerun and to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

History/Background: Axel is a second-generaton half-orc. Born to two half-orc parents. His parents worked hard at thier jobs as farmhands to provide for him. Despite this they lived in near-squallor. Their shack of a home was nice as they could make it given their meager means. Once he was old enough Axel joined his mother and father in the fields. None of the three of them had much in the way of friends and so they mostly kept to themselves.
One day Axel awoke as usual and found that his mother and father had packed a bag for him. They told him that they had thought long about it and had decided that they thought it would be best for him if he moved into the nearby city. They encouraged him to join the city garrison since that would solve the problems of income, food, and lodging all at once.
Though he was initially reluctant Axel eventually agreed and set out. He made it to the nearby city uneventfully and signed up for the city garrison. The next two years were rough for Axel as he clearly did not fit in with the majority of the locals. He was determined, though, and stuck it out. Eventually he earned a sort of grudging respect from his peers. They still did not like him, but could no longer deny his skill and his loyalty.
After several months had gone by another recruit joined with them. He was a half-elf by the name of Rylander Thakar. He was only just barely old enough to join and had done so to avoid the streets as his parents had sucumbed to illness leaving him orphaned. Rylander met much of the same prejudice that Axel had until Axel stepped in and took the young half-elf under his wing. Axel taught Rylander everything he knew and soon the young man was able to hold his own in his new position. The tohers also began to leave him alone as he was now considered Axel's protege. Neither of them cared, since they both had their first real friends since coming to the city.
Axel and Rylander eventually saved enough coin and secured a small apartment above a warehouse where they both took up occupation after resigning from the garrison. The two became roomates, coworkers, and friends.
One night atfer a hard day of working in the warehouse they were lougning at a local tavern when a small group f adventurers came in. They were speaking quietly, but sat close enough to Axel and Rylander that they were able to overhear. They were preparing to assualt a goblin encampment. The goblins had been raiding local caravans and cost enough in coin and flesh that the local lord was even offering a reward for their ears. One of their small group f three mentioned that it would be nice if they had a little extra muscle to split the work. Axel leaned back in his chair towards them and said, "How about me?"
The next morning he spent what little saving he had on a sword and shield at one of the adventurers direction and set out with them. Late that night he returned home bearing cuts, slashes, bruises, a pouch of looted gold, and his share of the sold spoils and reward. From that day forward he has offered his services to nearly every adventuring party that has passed through their small town.

Misc.:

Armor: Over the years Axel has managed to pice together a set of hide armor made of bearskins.

Weapon of choice: Axel carries a longsword of simple design that he keeps sheathed over his shoulder. And a Heavy shield that he often employs as a battering ram against his foes.

Other: Ganner wears a cord around his neck on which is set a claw into which he has carved the symbol of Tymora. He also wears a dark leather belt with a silver buckle. He keeps his swordbelt, and the sword that rides on it, slanted across his hips. He also wears a bracelet of polished stones on his left wrist.

Social Standing: Ganner is outgoing and confidant. He enjoys putting on a show and thus is often known well in the taverns of any town he stays in for more than a night.

Occupation: Ganner prefers to fashion himself as an adventurer or a sword for hire. He has stooped to banditry in times of extreme desperation, though he prefers not to harm anyone in those situations and instead flees if it looks as though he cannot intimidate his quarry into relinquishing their possessions.

Personality: Outgoing and confidant. He is a bit of a showman. When times get tough he shows that he does have a serious side, though he prefers not to use it. He is loyal to his comrades, but generally not to the point of death.

Likes: Ganner enjoys a cold brew and a hot meal. Soft beds and fine women. He enjoys games and sports, even a good book. If it is an entertainment or a luxury then Ganner most likely desires it.

Dislikes: Hard alcohol. Having to get serious. Discomfort, hardship, and irritation. Angry people. Cold rainy days.

Hobbies: Dicing, cards, reading, games, fighting, drinking, wenching. Generally anything to enjoy himself and have a good time.

Strengths: Ganner is a natural spellcaster, a sorcerer, though he has not trained those skills overmuch. He is skilled with a sword and quick on his feet despite frequently wearing medium to heavy armor.

Weaknesses: Ganner has trained himself extensively in his use of the longsword and even incorporated his few offensive spells. His focus is such, hoever, that he hasn't the slightest idea how to handle any other weapon with any sort of skill.

Motivation: Ganner adventures and sells his skills in an effort to collect enough coin to purchase conforts, luxuries, and entertainments. He dreams of his own castle and lands over which he will be the fair and well-loved Lord.

History/Background: Ganner was born the son of a whore. As such he never had a father. He grew up in the slums with his mother, who continued her trade. The local clerics had said that while birthing Ganner something inside of her had become damaged, making her unable to bear further children. Ganner was forced to frequently make himself scarce from a young age while his mother worked. The other street children called him a b*****d, and whoreson. Needless to say, Ganner had few friends. Ganner spent his time running with various child street gangs and thieving.
Shortly before he turned nine Ganners mother caught an illness and shortly thereafter passed away. Before passing she told him where she kept the small amount of money she had saved. She told him that she had a sister in a village not far from the city and that he should buy passage with a caravan to go there.
Ganner did as he was bid and left his mother burial arrangements to the local temples. He found a caravan that was heading the right way and payed his way on, having just enough left over for rations for the road. Ganner took immediate notice of one of the men in the caravan. He had signed on as a guard and said his names was Rowan Leary. Ganner could not help but be awed by the mans fine clothing and armor and his worn but well kept sword and bow. The caravan departed and everything went smoothly. On the 4th day of their trip the caravan was suddenly set upon by a big cat. It looked lean and hungry. Rowan and the other guards moved in on it quickly but the cat proved fast and wily. It put down one of the guards in seconds before it could be driven back. Ganner thought himself brave when he stepped forward and took up the fallen man's sword, not realising how heavy it would be. The cat, sensing his weakness darted in at him. Ganner did not even manage to raise his claimed sword before the beaast struck. Fortunately Rowan was there and knocked Ganner back and cleanly struck and fell the cat. Rowan's quick move had spared Ganner a grevious injury, leaving him with only a single gash next to his left eyebrow.
That night Rowan presented Ganner with the claw that had struck him, which he had removed from the cat. He had fashioned a cord and set the claw on it for the boy. Ganner stayed very attached to Rowan for the remainder of the trip.
When they arrived in the village Ganner set off in search of his aunt. He asked many of the locals but many claimed they did not know of the woman he was searching for. Finally one older woman claimed she had known Ganner's aunt, but that she had passed away not a couple of years before. Despairing, Ganner returned to the caravan only to find that Rowan had already left with a handful of other adventurers in search of lost treasures in the local woodlands. With no money to purchase food or shelter things were looking grim for young Ganner. That night he made his bed in an alleyway between the inn and the shop next door.
The next day was much the same, Ganner did not know what to do in this small town. There were no stalls to steal from, the only other children all knew each other and there were no gangs. and he was already residing in the only decent alley in the town. He was starting to wonder if he would have to try his hand at burglury when a man approached him. Ganner nearly panicked and quickly checked which routes he could escape via. The man noticed his fear and called out to him to wait. The man explained that he had heard about him asking around for his aunt and he knew that she had passed. He said that in a small town like theirs a young boy who had not been there the day before was big news. He knew that Ganner had nowhere to go and no money with which to survive on his own and offered him a place to stay. Ganner was skeptical, but really had no choice but to accept.
So it was that Ganner became a farmhand. Ganner worked for the man for several years untill he started to grow into a man. Then Ganner saw a group of adventurers pass through the town and decided that he did not want to live his whole life as a farmhand. Ganner thanked the man who had taken him in and said his goodbyes arounf the town. Then he took his meager belongings into a travel sack and left with the adventurers.
Adventureing was hard for Ganner at first since he had no armor, and only a dagger for a weapon. But he was lucky and managed to survive, slowly upgraded his equipment with looted items and the occasional purchased one as well. It was shortly after he started adventuring that Ganner learned that he was a natural mage, a sorcerer. He put his new found magic to good use and soon was outfitted as a proper adventurer. Ganner did not stay with one group for long peroids of time, switching from one group to another often. He went back and forth, crisscrossing the countryside in search of looted wealth and items. Thus Ganner now makes his way. An adventurer and sword for hire.

Misc.:

Armor : Ganner wears a heavy swordsmans doublet and breeches underneath his armor. His armor consists of a set of lorica segmentata, vembraces, a gauntlet on his right hand, a long dark leather glove on his left hand, faulds, cuisses, greaves, and a rarely worn barbute. All of his armor is plain steel, unpainted and scarred with the marks of many deflected strikes. Ganner keeps it polished though and is very proud of the set he has collected. He often wears a dark cloak along with his armor.

Weapon of choice: Ganner has limited skill with arcane spells and considerable skill with his worn and trusted longsword. Ganner also carries a crossbow and a quiver of bolts at the back of his waist.

Personality: Plays things cool in tight situations, knows the ins and outs of underworld society, but has a hot temper when provoked. Cheerful when it suits him.

Likes: Ale, Brandy, whisky and wine. Silver jewelry. Gold pieces. Mutton is his favorite food. Prefers the color black.

Dislikes: Questions, law enforcement, rival gangs, threats against his life and killing his loved ones.

Hobbies: Fishing, loading and unloading ships, "courting" fair young ladies, breaking and entering, theft, vandalism, destruction of property, threatening debtors, breaking bones and the occasional murder.

Strengths: Peak physical condition, combat experience, determination and quick thinking. Also known to be very charming or intimidating when it suits him.

Weaknesses: A slow but mean temper and a moral compass that leaves something to be desired.

Motivation: Formerly, gold, greed and ranking within the gang. Now survival guides his actions.

History/Background: Even Leon knows very little of his parents. They were both Eladrin, slightly well to do compared to common folk and they loved him very much. He also knows they were killed in a mugging in Luskan when he was five. It was then that he was Taken in by Margaret, a higher ranking member in the dockers gang. She acted as his adoptive mother, showed him care and compassion and eventually, when he was ten, showed him the ways of the shadows. How to sneak, how to be cunning, how to steal, how to fight and above all, how to avoid getting caught. Leon Grew up to be a fine member of the guild, taking on theiving jobs and quickly earning his way into the job of enforcer for his viciousness, his intimidating presence and his skill with a blade.
However, a few days ago he found his mother, Margaret, dead upon an altar. Jeraldo, one of the gang leaders who had been swayed by promises of the riches and power that the darker forces can offer, had aligned the dockers with a local cult, the blood hand, and sacrificed her both as a component for a dark ritual and as a power play to gain more influence within the gang. Enraged by this, Leon stole a flaming magic dagger, Ember's Kiss, and a magic leather breastplate from the guilds stores and set upon a seemingly hopeless quest to avenge his Mother. Through quick thinking and sheer grit, he managed to eliminate Jeraldo and most of the other gang members as well as the entirety of the local chapter of the the blood hand, although not without grievous injury to himself. Now he has fled Luskan heading northward in order to avoid the wrath of allied gangs that by now have surely put a price on his head.

Misc.:

Armor : A magically enchanted boiled leather breastplate, dyed black. Black Leather wrist bracers.

Weapon of choice: Ember's Kiss in his right hand and an Iron dagger in his left.

Social Standing: Respected both in and out of the temple due to his position and wisdom, but because of his common appearance, he is sometimes not taken seriously by those of higher standing.

Occupation: Monk of the Moradin Temple

Personality: Alister lives simply and does not live a life of luxury. He finds comfort in simplicity and merriment among friends. He does not advise violence as the solution to every conflict he knows that sometimes words are all that is needed to quell dispute. However sometimes words strike deeper than the even the strongest metal, which as a dwarf is sometimes hard to comprehend.

Likes: The company of comrades, teaching the ways of Moradin and feasting.

Dislikes: Arrogance, predudice, extravogant living styles, droughts

Hobbies: Reading, singing, traveling, brewing ales, games

Strengths: Alister has an unnatural ability to use words that make great impact on those who listen. Although these words lack the style and frill of other speakers, they create greater inner stirring and seem to have more substance as if speaking directly into the soul. Due to his dwarven ancestry, Alister was also trained in the use of the warhammer which incidentally is the symbol of Moradin.

Weaknesses: Due to his time in the temple, Alister has had little time to train in any other forms of combat aside the warhammer. His mannerisms are also somewhat more common and simple due to his upbringing.

Motivation: Alister seeks to spread the knowledge and presence of Moradin and finds that by traveling he will be able to accomplish such a feat. He has also charged himself in protecting those under Moradin's care and to deliver Moradin's wrath on those who would endanger them.

History/Background: Alister was just a child when he left his home in the mountains. A son of a upper clansman and well known leader he had little time to enjoy such luxuries when the mountain became angry. He wasn't sure why the mountain began to take back what his people had come to call home. Perhaps it was their greed for the riches. Perhaps it was their arrogance. It was beyond his understanding. He only remembered the red and yellow rivers that crashed into the pillars that supported the ceiling. The hot breath of the earth flaring and scalding his skin. That was all he recalled.
The next thing he knew he was under the care of the priests, clerics and monks of a temple who worshiped Moradin which was run primarily by dwarves who had decided to live on the surface rather than in the mountains. Several other races also coexisted within the temple showing that Moradin looked upon all races equally and that they only need follow his ideals.
Now he serves within the temple guiding those who sought aid, healing, wisdom, and shelter. He does occasionally look back and wonder what had become of his people and of his home. He hopes that Moradin will one day show him the way and perhaps bring peace to his heart.

Misc.: The temple of Mordin is well known in producing some of the best ale in the countryside. The temple relies on the selling of this ale and donations to keep the temples running and to buy provisions to those who seek shelter within its walls. It is said that a festival is not complete until the Ale of Mordain has been tasted.

Armor : Alister owns a plain leather armor which he aquired out of necessity due to his travels. Although he knowns it does little to protect him and feels more like a cloth, he knows Moradin is always watching over his servant.

Weapon of choice: Dwarven Warhammer and wooden staff used primarily for traveling.

- Rylander is Axel's friends that he met while in the city garrison. The two resigned from the garrison together and moved into an apartment above a warehouse which they share. They also work together at that same warehouse.
