With the very nature of the ball, I believe it important to understand the set-up before going about choosing characters. Therefore, please look through the plot if you can spare a moment. The characters in this little intro will change depending on who is cast as whom. I simply put some placeholder ones in here for convenience. heart

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The city had long been abandoned, and the emptiness left a strange calm about the place. If someone had remembered to think about it, that person might have remarked on the mass exodus to the new, great cities of Gaia in 2003. But, no one did stop to think about it; so there it sat, empty, forgotten, magic whirling around under the soil, waiting for life to return to it once more. And, just a couple days ago — it did.
It was early in the morning when the first of the magical bookworms wriggled its tiny body out of ground, and found its way into the old, majestic library. Others soon followed, and together they found nourishment in forgotten works of literature that had endured throughout the ages. Then, something amazing happened. A flash of light appeared in front of an old, leather volume that a bookworm had previously been feasting upon, and a figure began to form. As the light faded, (Robayn’s character) stood standing on dusty, marble floor. Before she could get her bearings, she was soon joined by many other characters from other great novels.
“What is this new place?” she said more to herself than the others. As she looked around coffered ceilings and the seemingly endless rows of books, it occurred to her that she was in a library. Puzzled by what happened, she and the others began searching through the novels closest to them.
“Why, this book is about me!” Elizabeth Bennett said in alarm, lifting up a worm-eaten copy of Pride and Prejudice. “Really? I’m to marry Mr. Darcy? Well, this certainly cannot be! I’ve no intention submitting to such a ridiculous fate.
“I don’t much care what this place is, but it sure beats whitewashin’ Aunt Polly’s old fence,” Tom Sawyer said with a smirk. “Let’s stick around for a bit!”
After perusing their own books, and discovering that they had a chance to alter their destinies, the characters decided to remain in the abandoned city, and thus became its new inhabits. Curiously, at that same time, everyone around Gaia started having strange dreams that told them to visit the old city. And, heeding the advice in their dreams, many Gaians began to venture forth to the place where they would come face to face with stories they had long thought were just make-believe.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the characters emerge from their books, they will either be dissatisfied with the course of events in their own stories or they will just want an adventure. In any case, they find locations in the city, and hang out together. Our rooms will be based on location rather than theme so we can have greater mixing and mingling. I mean, where would the fun be if we only had one room with villains? Anyway, each room is going to have their respective plots, but we will have a few events that will bump into everyone's rooms. We'll figure what those events are later. But, what I can tell you is at on the final day, Merlin will emerge from the books, and set everything right, returning the characters to the books. This will provide a clean break from everyone, and excuse by which to end the festivities. And, since all of these rooms exist in the same universe, you shouldn't need any special mechanics or devices to arrange crossovers. heart

No one has posted anything yet? That's weird. Anyway, each room is going to take over a certain certain of the town, so don't worry about being stuck in the library. That would be too much like the 7th Annual Ball, so we decided to scrap it. Actually, we decided on a set-up more similar to the 8th Annual Ball, where great characters of lore are thrown together to work out their issues while entertaining guests. biggrin

A villain room would be fun. There could also be an Adventurer's room.

A villain room would be fun. There could also be an Adventurer's room.

The plot committee discussed that idea at first, but then we shot it down. The problem would be that we could not have enough variety in character types if we grouped them too rigidly. So, instead, we're going to have a characters in different locations who share something in common. For example, we can have a room of characters who are affiliate with water and the sea. Another room might be a room where highly inquisitive characters hang out. Although, these lines are a bit blurry, and we can have fun with just about any combination we get together. Then again, before this thing is over with and we have characters and place names assigned to each host, we might be back on the track of genres again. LOL

Ah. Yeah, when I think about it, Adventure stories are quite spread out in different genres.

There's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Both books are fair game from which to choose characters. However, co-hosts won't be able to choose characters until after we get the characters and settings sorted with the hosts. 3nodding

Once you get the themes chosen, could you post a list of which hosts have what?

I'd be happy to do so. biggrin I'm still waiting to hear back from everyone. I'll ask Robayn about it. Maybe she already has a list.

Hi there, I'm new to this whole "Ball" event/idea and I was drawn here by a friend.

Now I run a couple of RP guilds, one that is being built and the other is a new take on an RP Concept that just rarely is seen.

Because of this, I was going to bring one of my NPC's from "The Warrior's Pride" which is a Fire Emblem RP guild to the ball, I have also suggested to my members that when this gets started that they might want to participate.

So, my only real questions are these:
How can I make it feasible for my characters to arrive (and by extension, my members) Mine is a magic rich environment, so that could explain it, but I am afraid I have no clue in terms of your situation here

And

What kind of character would be the most appropriate to bring? I mean, we have mages, shape shifters, warriors of all kinds, normal humans (which are boring but hey)

Once I have an answer to these things I can figure out what I need to do to prep my guild and members for this event

And I'm glad to be working with all of you on this biggrin

Well, if you want characters from there to be involved, I'd actually say wait until the Ball actually starts up. We're just starting to get into the really deep, complicated planning. I mean it's not that hard, but it's a lot of work.

Most of the characters that the members of this guild are going to be using are going to come from Classic Literature. Basically, any work that we can use without any worries of copyright issues works. For example, I am going to play Prince Prospero from Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death.

If you want to be an official character, try applying to be a co-host in a room. The hosts are all pretty awesome. You can apply in multiple rooms, but only work in one (trust me, it's better this way, you don't go as crazy).

Hopefully I've answered your questions. Just ask if you've got any more.

Kind of, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "Official Character" since all the characters that I would be introducing would be OC's (Original Characters) So I'm just a little bit confused
