User ImageAriadne walked quietly and elegantly down the path near the edge of the greenhouse gardens. She paused, here and there, to admire the flower plantings. Here were shade plants mostly, under the tree cover. She walked untill she came to the small decorative stream that lead into the pond, and the large willow beside it. She loved the sound of the running water, and the green wet smell that hovered around it, like the scent of life. She lay down on the bank to watch the day, and people, go by, partially hidden by the shade of the willow's drooping branches.

Layla walked through the garden, his birdy friends twittering and fluttering around above his head letting the world know of their pleasure on this fine day. He smiled up at them and continued talking each step carefully around each tree, rock, and bush. He turned a corner revealing a small pond with a great and gorgeous willow by it. He approached the tree looking up at it. "Hello great mother." He whispered. "And my what a stunning beauty you are." He smiled, lost in his thoughts until the birds above him twittered and landed on top of his branches drawing his attention away from the great tree to where the birds seemed distracted by. In front of him stood what look like another of his kind with similar antlers protruding out of her head. "Oh--" he looked away nervously, "hello." He whispered.

Ariadne quietly watched the younger phox as he greeted the tree. She approved, they tree had been there a long time and spent a lot of energy growing, going through the season changes, and producing seeds for offspring.
She walked towards him casually, smiling to dissuade his nervousness. "Hello there, are you enjoying this garden?" She asked, noting his own antlers and charming bluebird companions.

His eyes flitted back to look at her as a blush formed across his cheeks. "Yes" he squeaked out before looking away again. "It's quite lovely." He shifted his feet nervously, conversations with other phoxes weren't his forty, he preferred talking to and observing nature instead. But, it was always nice to run into another nature lover from time to time.

Sensing his nervousness Ariadne smiled inwardly, and tried to lead the conversation away from themselves. "Which plants have caught your eye today?" She asked, voice still soft. "I had been look at the herb garden before I settled here to rest." She hoped talking about plants would ease him.

He smiled down at the water, watching the reflection of himself grinning. "Well... I just got here." He began, stuttering out the words, "but this mother willow tree caught my eye." He looked back up at the willow. She was strong and beautiful, everything he hoped one day to be, although he knew that he was instead skittish, like a deer, and un-trusting at first, but after some time he warmed up to others.

He glanced up over at the other. "What herbs do you like?"

She looked at him, measuring this younger male for reactions. "Would you like to stroll together?" She asked. She wondered if he would turn and run t the suggestion, he seemed almost afraid of her. She hadn't encountered that before. Reverence awe or adoration yes, but then again not everyone lived to become an elder as she had. It was refreshing and intriguing at the same time to be treated in a different way.

Besides, this one looked as if he needed a friend to help boost his confidence.
"I like pennyroyal, and healall, henbit as well, for all everyone thinks of henbit as a weed."

He nodded nervously at the offer, shifting from foot to foot but not running away. "I'd like that... I think." He nodded and looked up at her. As she listed off her favorite herbs Layla found himself nodding at this. "I like mint and basal." He stuttered lightly, "the young woman I live with grows them in her windowsill in the kitchen. They always smell really nice."

Ariadne nodded gently and stepped up next to him unobtrusively, not too close. "Yes, those do slepp nice. Jed... he keeps more plants than I care to count, all about his small apartment." She paused and leant down to snigg a flower sticking up through the grass. It wasn't suppused to be there, but that was ok. "Does she cook?" She asked him, wondering if she used the herbs she grew or just enjoyed them growing. And since talk of herbs seemed to ease him a little, she tok a light step in the direction of the herb garden. Maybe bieng among them would help him too.

He followed after her, carefully choosing each step. "Yes, she loves to cook." He smiled at the thought of the lovely smells that always came from the kitchen. "The other day she made a pasta with olive oil with roasted tomatoes, peppers, and onions that had been soaked in olive oil and herbs before she broiled them in the oven until they were ready to explode." The smell about the house had been magnificent and he'd been sad when the cooking had been done as the smell had left. "She experiments with new food whenever she gets a chance." He pranced along a bit more happily with this conversation.

"Oh!" She replied enthusiastically easily keeping pace with his prancing. "That sounds delicious! Jed is hopeless with cooking." She sighed a bit jealous about the food. "It sounds wonderful and fun, do you help her out?" She wondered. She kind-of wish Jed worried about his food a bit more, instead he was mixing up plant fertilizers. he didn't seem to see the beauty and art that food could be, the pleasure it could taste of.

"No." He laughed lightly at the thought. "I'm too klutzy to help her, I just spill everything." He blushes lightly thinking of the time he tried to help the other phoxes in the house make Yoku a birthday cake. Let's just say it didn't come out very well. "Some of the other phoxes help her though."

Ariadne bumped against his shoulder lightly. "I'm sure you are not as bad as you say, you didn't make anything explode I expect." She grinned at him jokingly. "Other phoxes you say? Your friends? or are you shy of them too?" She didn't want to make him uncomfortable by asking, but she was also curious. She paused to smell the lavender at the pathside.

He startled lightly at being hit knocking him out of his daze of happiness. "Oh-- Um, they're my family..." He trailed off, stopping in place and looking down again to the side and at the ground.

Ariadne stopped too, and stepped away a bit drooping.
"Please don't hide again like that, we were having such a nice conversation, I didn't mean to..."

She stopped, there wasn't really anything else she could think of to say about it. "I'm sorry." She apologized. She had meant to be playful and friendly. "Would you like to see the rosemary hedges?" She asked hopefully, hoping she could ease him again.
