I'd like to consider this mandatory, but it's really not. ):

I like to know my members, the people I'm playing with, who I'll be enjoying my time with, y'know? So post here, telling me who you are, and the discussion will continue along in this thread, I'll start.

Hi! My name's Nic (Solomon when I'm online smile ). I'm an 18-year-old future military-fur and member of Dr. Steel's Toy Soldiers. I currently reside in Greenville, North Carolina and have been playing table-top games since my freshman year of high school, when a friend introduced me to v3.5 of Dungeons and Dragons. My love for gaming grew and grew from that moment and eventually I found that those of the indie persuasion were typically much more fun, for very strange unknown reasons.

YOUR TURN!
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:35 pm

My name's Phillip (Fox is my last name, either works). I exposed Nic to everything due to me being a nerd and owned the set of books for DnD bor 3 years before ever actually used the things. in later years I discovered I had a bit of a writing knack and a good eye for balance issues, and before long I had the general task of "will it work if *blank*, and it makes everyone rage when I'm right all the time. which I am. I also live about a mile away from Nic

Where do I get started...

I'm Teq' (Or some variation thereof), I'm not comfortable with telling people online my actual name unless I know you personally/ know you aren't much of a threat to me. I'm 23 goin' on 13 and I've been independently educated my entire life. If there was something I wanted to learn I'd go find it myself. 'Course being independently educated employers were deadly terrified of my perceived threat to their status-quo so my only option turned out military. After 3 years of service I was deemed a "Surplus Asset" and Laid-off.
I now write in my free time between looking for work. I got started into Pen and Paper gaming when my old man introduced me to his gaming crew, we started playing 1st edition AD&D, I managed to get a fighter/wizard (Human) to level 16 before we switched to 3.5 Eberron at which point I found a better name for my character (He became known as Michael Canaan), and he became a tenth level fighter/ sixth level wizard. I quantified myself as a duelist rather than fighter, using magic to neutralize enemies and then sweep 'em off their feet with a few well-placed attacks with my Katana.
After I was deployed to Alberta that kinda petered out and I looked for a long-a** time to find a group in my division. We started playing Dark Heresy on our off-days/ Lunch-breaks. I was a third level techpriest there before I got re-posted to Ottawa.
Now I'm back in my home-town and playing 3.5 Eberron again with a group that doesn't play 4th ed. It's a fun aside in my opinion, but they axed so much of what made the game great. I've yet to make one serious character for 4th edition, and as a result they've all been really weird.
Michael Canaan is finally riding-high again, this time as a 10th level Gun-Alchemist (DM's Homebrew class)/ 8th level wizard.

Fun-Fact; My current avatar, when I finish the outfit, is actually based on that variant of Canaan.

Well... That's me...

Nice to officially meet you Teq, and thanks again for joining.
It's funny that you should mention Eberron though because that's my favorite setting. I just really enjoy the fact the magic and technology coincide to create a very advanced fantasy world. biggrin
Our group hasn't been playing very much D&D lately though because of finding other games like World of Darkness. After you start to get around in the pen-and-paper world you start to realize that the d20 system just isn't very good. sweatdrop

And I'd certainly be helping your quest... if I hadn't just sold nearly everything in my inventory. xP

Wow I've never had a character go farther than one game xp honly multiclassed once too but it was my best and most fun character to play; varoomo rish I think he's name was, he was a tiefling 2nd level fighter/6th level rouge and used a twobladed sword with an indepth history behind it, if he was a paladin he would have put some of them to shame. tat was a fun game

Anytime.

Yeah, Eberron is one of my favorite settings too. More character than the Forgotten Realms (In my opinion), more depth than the Dark Sun Setting (In my opinion), and just more character than the stock setting. I also enjoy owning my own Air-Ship xp

Yeah, I found that with Dark Heresy, it just seems... padded now... Like it could have been better. But now the d% system just appeals to me more.

And don't worry about my quest man, With enough luck I'll get lucky in the market place or something... You'll see. When I'm rich you'll see. xp

Fox~ Heh, we had one guy in out party was already level 17 when we switched to 3.5, thanks to AD&D's wonky level up system. He was a... Rogue I think... Or a Bard... one or the other, that was nearly 15 years ago.

Alright, 'sup guys. I'm not too picky about what you call me, though Squee is my usual abbreviated handle. At the time of posting this, I'm 21, attending community college on the U.S. East Coast, and not entirely sure what I want to do. I'm considering acting, it looks like a lot of fun and something I could really enjoy.

I first got introduced to tabletop gaming through D&D 3.0 in sixth grade, a wacky trainwreck of a campaign in which my greatsword-wielding bard ended up ascending to godhood through Deck of Many Things shenanigans.

I never really found anybody else willing to play until a year or so ago, when I found that several people from a forum I went to were interested in starting a D&D game on IRC. Things progressed naturally from there, some people had to drop out for various reasons, and as it currently stands, we play Pathfinder on Skype at odd intervals.

Other than D&D, my only real tabletop experience is one session each of Scion and Mouse Guard. My main reason for joining this guild is to expand my horizons, get a little experience with other systems.

I briefly heard something about the mouse game and I was seriously interested, for a few (probably wrong) reasons; 1: I want to see a mouse fight off a hawk with a fish hook 2: there must be a finit limit of hwo far you can go in it before making a 'the secret of N.I.M.H' joke

Well, to be fair, there are actual concrete limits as far as how big a creature you can successfully fight as a mouse. I don't remember exactly how it goes, but I do know that it's not possible for a mouse to kill a hawk except under exceptional circumstances.

I do love me some hook-and-line though. That weapon is amazing.

I dunno about NIMH, personally I see Mouse Guard as being more along the lines of Redwall: The RPG. I've actually been considering writing up some modified rules to that effect.

I've never actually read the books, but I've heard a lot about them, my point might be proven if my assumption they're books in incorrect xP plus I like the idea of size/perception distortion. Me:"hey, a needle" Mouse:" hey, a rapier/spear/javlain/ect"

Let's see... I've changed Gaia user names at least 20 times, this being my most recent name. The main name I use for online games is Faey, but I had that account scammed back when I was a gullible noob (2004). Feel free to refer to me by whichever variation of my name you feel like as long as it's obvious it's referring to me.

I'm 29, and have done far too little with my life. I first encounter RPGs when I found my mother's copy of the 1st ed D&D PHB and DMG, and a couple oD&D books (which I actually still have. Elf as a class ftw) when I was 11. Unfortunately never actually got to play D&D for another 6 years. Played 2nd ed. during high school (as DM, being the only person who knew the rules well enough) and a couple years after high school. Also end up getting brief tastes of other games (oWoD Werewolf, Vampire, and Changeling, Rifts, and a few others, most of which didn't last more than 1-2 sessions).

After moving cities, a had a brief stint doing Changeling LARP (played 3 sessions before RL made it impractical) and, after another move, a longer stint in a Vampire LARP as well as several months of 3.0 D&D.

Several years later (and a couple more moves), ended up with a gaming group of coworkers (and later ex-coworkers when we were all laid-off) where we played D&D 3.5 (several months-long game), and brief tries at 4e (we lasted 2 sessions and mutually agreed it sucked and went back to 3.5), Pathfinder (fell through due to poor setting and DM relying on poorly written pre-made modules), and Vampire: the Masquerade (which only 2 people ever finished character creation, though those characters were awesome and I'm sad we never got to play them).

Recently, only RP I've been able to do is on Gaia, and the slow paced and quickly dying games have been really annoying.

Anyways, that's probably far more than you wanted to read, and I apologized.

Our group hasn't been playing very much D&D lately though because of finding other games like World of Darkness. After you start to get around in the pen-and-paper world you start to realize that the d20 system just isn't very good. sweatdrop

Now we just need D&D with WoD rules. Only problem I've had with making the conversion is the D&D magic system doesn't translate into a dot-based system at all.

I love the massive history and world development that Forgotten Realms has that most other settings lack. I do like the concept of Eberron, but have never really gotten into it, same with DarkSun. Also, you can get Air Ships in Forgotten Realms.

Thank you for the warning. I'll try to restrain my spelling/grammar nazi impulses.

That's alright, it's very nice to meet you. ^^

I've already given about as much input as I can on the WoD-ruled D&D game from the other guild though. sweatdrop
If you need anymore help with it you could probably put it up on one of the boards here so everyone can see it.

This is probably stating the obvious, but I'd assume the easist way to translate it would be to move the power-based system into an effect-based system litteraly, like mage (without the "obvious magic is bad" rule, clearly). you could probably divide it from there by magic school and have dots per level per school, that would allow a hardline system to exist for speclization too. but that's just me, sinse I'd think to preserve the shear number of effects possible, it still kinda messes up how you balance 5-dots to 10 spell levels, inless you forced (or strongly inclined them to be) spec-wizards and had the dots progress unevenly across the board
