Ishira, a Teru, has just been given a mission to be a vanguard for a Reyvateil named Rhaplanca. So he readies himself for the task.
Just before he leaves, he comes across a half-Teru named Miko, a childhood friend of his who is also leaving to find her sister and bring her back home after the death of their uncle.
The two bid goodbye and depart in opposite directions, one going up and one going down the tower.
Ishira makes his way to the city of Pallieu, where he runs across his mission's target, Rhaplanca by accident. After a rather rude greeting from the citizens, which results in Rhaplanca scolding them all, the two get to know each other better. His cute companion Yue and the Reyvateil become fast friends and soon the three decide to make their way back down to the city of Ce Palym.
In the meantime, another half-Teru, named Mana is making her way up the tower to visit her sister, however taking her sweet time with it. On the way there, she stops in at a tavern where she meets a shy Third-Generation Reyvateil by the name of Hikari who seems to be in some trouble. Soon, by chance, an old aquaintance of Mana's- Gannon, a Teru who lost his horns and familiar, joins in, and the two decide to escort Hikari up the tower to the Reyvateil city Pallieu, where she believes she will reunite with her family.
Meanwhile, two ß-type Male Reyvateils awaken to their mission: Find the Goddess and bring back the escaped F.P.D. Third-Generation Reyvateil Weapon. One, a gentle soul who has been cloned off of the first Origin Reyvateil Eolia, and the other, a clone of the last Origin Reyvateil Nelia that was created using the first as a blueprint, with a much darker personality.
Also, up in the Heavens where the Goddess resides, the Guardian Shun awakens to find that the Goddess Nelia has disappeared.
Lastly, Ishira and Rhaplanca stay at the inn in Pallieu for the night. Rhaplanca, who is on a mission of her own to find and locate someone, feels anxiety and decides to sing a song, hoping that the strength from the Hymn will reach through the tower to the person she is looking to find.

Rhaplanca and Ishira get better acquainted at the inn in Pallieu for the night. They unwind and Rhaplanca debriefs Ishira on their mission, however she leaves out some information forbidden to leave the Eve of Reyvateils. The Goddess is missing.
Elsewhere Rhemi, a childhood friend of Rhaplanca and the Reyvateil responsible to sing for the duration of her lifespan to keep Ar_Tonelico alive, is being hacked by someone outside the Chronicle of Orgel. Her hymn has momentarily ceased causing the rapid decrease in tower function.
In the morning Rhaplanca and Ishira leave for Ce Palym through the Frozen Eye. Ishira's family spell is the only known method of passing through the Frozen Eye.
Rhemi's momentary lapse is lifted and she resumes her duty to sing for Rhaplanca's sake.
On their separate journeys to Ce Palym it seems the seeds of love have been planted into Rhaplanca + Ishira and Hikari + Gannon. However Hikari's dwindling health is making her journey difficult. The strain is affecting the undetected F.P.D. disease within her as well. Mana reveals the reason for her kindness and drive to help Hikari as a repentance for failing to protect a former F.P.D. Reyvateil. Mana and Gannon have both sworn to see their quest through to the end.
Rhaplanca and Ishira finally reach Ce Palym where Rhaplanca literally bumps into Noaah and Vegna, two very rare and mysterious male reyvateils with their own mission.
Meanwhile on there path to Ce Palym, Mana's sister Miko stumbles across their group and chastises her sister for her absence. A rocky and hard transition for their group as Miko is a little irritated by Hikari's presence and even jealous of her closeness to Mana.

Having just met, Rhaplanca and Ishira, along with the male Reyvateils Vegna and Noaah are thrown into a desperate situation when Guardians from the tower start randomly attacking people on the Steppe. In the heat of the moment, Vegna and Noaah decide to sing to help fend them off, blowing their cover. Their Hymn is partially unsuccessful, seeing as the two cannot sing in Sync with one another.
Rhaplanca is shocked to discover that the two are Reyvateils, and is caught off guard when Ishira carelessly allows an attack to get through. She manages to protect herself, and chastises Ishira for his mistake.
In the meantime, Hikari, Gannon and the twins who are about to enter the city realize that there is a fight going on and have reservations about entering the city. They decide to proceed, though trying to keep a low profile and leave ASAP.
Soon, the battle dies down and the two male Reyvateils are left to deal with the consequences of revealing themselves. After a heated argument between Vegna and Ishira, both sides agree to join forces. They stumble across a dive shop and decide to take a shot at it... with both side's first attempts ending in failure.
Vegna storms off and Noaah goes after him. They both compromise, and agree to wait until later to attempt a dive once again.
Ishira and Rhaplanca attempt to dive once again, and with Rhaplanca's intervention into her own cosmosphere, this time the dive is a success.
Meanwhile, Gannon and co. are in town looking for some new attire for Hikari. Miko storms out leaving Mana and Hikari alone, while Gannon buys some supplies. Gannon returns to just in time to have Hikari collapse on him.
Just as they are leaving, they happen to run into Ishira and Rhaplanca, who immediately realizes that Hikari is a Third-Gen and offers a Diquility crystal to her. Gannon refuses the gift, hurting Rhaplanca's feelings in the process. Ishira offers to let them stay the night, but again Gannon declines. Hikari thanks Rhaplanca, and the two groups go their seperate ways once again.
Rhaplanca and Ishira visit a library, and even though she is depressed she manages to enjoy herself a little with Ishira there trying to cheer her up. She discloses a little more about her mission, but hides most of the truth from Ishira.
Vegna and Noaah settle in for the night at the Shrine they are staying at courtesy of Ishira. After Noaah falls asleep, Vegna muses about the dark and twisted truth of their mission, which is to not "protect" the Goddess at all. Rather, to ensure her demise.
Miko is none-too-happy that Gannon refused Ishira's offer and verbalizes it, leading to a confrontation between the two which is quickly resolved. Gannon reveals a little about his past, and also seems to be fighting feelings over the Third-Gen he's protecting.

Hikari's condition worsens and thanks to Gannon's connection to the innkeeper they provide a free bed for Hikari. Hikari's delusional state from her F.P.D. disease causes her to ramble about not wanting to sing for the C.P.G. corp. before passing out on the bed.
Mana is confused by her words and leaves her to rest and plan on the next move with Gannon and Miko in the lobby. However, Gannon's apparent playboy attitude and innuendos with the innkeeper Melody disgusts the twins and forces them to return to their room to give Gannon some privacy.
Elsewhere, a mysterious and chipper girl named Nel with a forgotten past has made herself a home with a older woman in her bakery/cafe.
It seems the President and his assistant Naomi have begun their search for Hikari despite the dispatching of Noaah and Vegna. They use another imprisoned F.P.D. Reyvateil by the name of ECCHRA as method of hacking the Fau Pira and pinpointing Hikari's location. In an effort to slow Hikari's pace and deteriorate her heath, they use ECCHRA to unleash a virus into the Fau Pira despite the known danger on all F.P.D. minds.
Meanwhile Rhaplanca has second thoughts about including Ishira on her mission in fear of hurting him. She sneaks out of their room at night and Vegna tails her. They talk about there missions and Vegna finds a sick pleasure in revealing his to Rhaplanca that he is searching for the Goddess so he can destroy her and Fa Ciel. He also informs Noaah is included in this mission but Noaah doesn't know the truth, he thinks he is to protect the Goddess. Rhaplanca does not reveal hers but informs Vegna that there missions oppose one another. Instead of ending her there, Vegna decides to prolong his satisfaction by leaving Rhaplanca alone in the streets of Ce Palym. He has decided to abandon Noaah... for now.
Inside the room at the inn Hikari is fast asleep and Mana asked Miko to take a walk with her to patch things up between them. Mana's defense of Hikari causes the twins resolve things on the common want to protect Hikari. They return to the inn to check up on her.
While the twins are out Gannon heads to the couple suite with Melody. However, the playboy facade was just an act. Melody was really an old accomplice of Gannon's past escapades. She was a long time friend and knew Gannon's sorrowful past of losing a F.P.D. Reyvateil. Gannon reveals that Hikari is being pursued by the C.P.G. and suspects she is also a F.P.D. Melody, who truly does love Gannon even though the feeling is unrequited, fears that his past is doomed to be repeated.
Hikari has awakened alone in the inn and fears abandonment. She frantically leaves in search of her friends and stumbles upon Rhaplanca. The two befriend each other quickly and Rhaplanca reveals her mission to Hikari. Rhaplanca assured Hikari that she hasn't been abandoned and willingly waits with Hikari so her group to find her. They agree that they should join forces when Hikari abandons hope of reaching Pallieu.
Unfortunately Vegna was looming nearby to hear Rhaplanca's true mission, and even now he still wants to drag out his evil plot. He leaves Ce Palym.
Ishira has stirred from his slumber to find Rhaplanca and Yue missing and automatically assumes Vegna as the culprit. He frantically bursts into Vegna and Noaah's room to find Vegna missing as well. Noaah is shocked at the sudden commotion and disappearance of his comrade. After Ishira's initial suspicions of Noaah as well, they both go to search for there missing friends. Ishira and Noaah comfort each other of their worries while they search the streets of Ce Palym.
When Mana and Miko return to the lobby at the inn Gannon and Melody just arrived at the lobby as well. They had roughed themselves up to keep up their act. Gannon accuses the twins of not protecting Hikari and Mana lies and says they were just outside the door. Mana and Miko go to check on Hikari and unfortunately discover her missing. Mana lies again saying Hikari needs to be left alone and announces that her and Miko are going for a walk as she drags Miko outside. Gannon suspects the lie and confirms when he checks in on Hikari.
Now both groups are searching for their missing Reyvateils.

Hikari and Rhaplanca talk, waiting for their seperate groups to find them and decide their next course of actions; whether to join forces or not. Hikari decides that in order to atone, she must help Rhaplanca.
In the meantime, Gannon realizes that the twins lost track of Hikari, and decides to transform into a draconic form to search for her by air. However, he attracts Ishira's and Noaah's attention before finding the Reyvateils.
Hikari mentions to Gannon that she doesn't intend to go to Pallieu and instead wishes to travel with Rhaplanca, causing Gannon to become suspicious of Rhaplanca and her group. The two leave, but not before Hikari promises to help Rhaplanca in her quest.
Ishira, Rhaplanca and Noaah resolve to continue the search for the missing Vegna, and Rhaplanca fights an inner battle about whether or not to reveal the truth about Vegna and his mission to the innocent Noaah.
Meanwhile, Hikari slips up and speaks to Gannon, asking him in Hymmnos why he came back for her. To Hikari's surprise, Gannon replies back in Hymmnos, that he promised to protect her and that he can indeed understand Hymmnos, throwing her off, and causing her to become clumsy in her embarrassment. He offers to carry her, and she passes out on him soon after, still feeling under the weather.
The twins find them, and after a bit of bickering back and forth, they all head back to the inn putting Hikari to bed, with the girls going to sleep as well. Gannon writes a note stating that he will be back soon and leaves to confront Rhaplanca's party, fearing that Hikari will naively join Rhaplanca, only to step into a C.P.G. Corp trap.
With Rhaplanca's group, Vegna's disappearance is taking its toll on Noaah and he begins panicking, having brief but upsetting flashbacks, and he breaks down and runs off in a frenzy. Rhaplanca immediately goes to console him, resulting in some jealousy from Ishira's end.
In the library where Rhaplanca and Ishira were before, a mysterious man shows up, with plans to stalk Rhaplanca and her group and take whatever information he can on the Life Giver, the Reyvateil that sings for eternity to keep the tower alive.
Finally, Gannon catches up with Rhaplanca's group and threatens Ishira and the others, using a gas bomb that affects Reyvateil's singing and trapping them in an ice dome. His intentions are to find out if any of them actually work for the C.P.G. Corp in order to differentiate friend from foe. Rhaplanca's answers ease his suspicions of her, but raise questions about Noaah and Ishira.
In the middle of the interrogation, Vegna interrupts and drops the bomb on Noaah. The truth of their mission is not to save the Goddess, but to eliminate her. To top it off, he is accompanied by the nameless man from before who was stalking Rhaplanca. This strange man warns Gannon to stop interfering and warns him that Hikari's life is in danger, but Gannon decides to remain there, in case they plan on following him back to Hikari. The man then summons a swarm of A.B.R. units.
And so, a battle with Vegna, the nameless man, and countless A.B.R. units verses Rhaplanca, Ishira, Noaah, and Gannon commences.

The clamor of the battle in the streets of Ce Palym awoke Melody and Mana. Melody immediately rushes to Hikari, waking her up to get her out of the inn through a secret passage. Miko and Mana follow as back up, Mana taking up the rear and forcefully stopping a few C.P.G. corp. soldiers that got too close. Despite Hikari's willingness to fight the girls tell her not to overexert herself.
In the heated battle outside, Vegna sadistically wishing to toy with Ishira, Rhaplanca and Gannon a little longer, despite the nameless masked man's warning to leave. He begins to sing a dark hymme seeded with hate causing an ominous void to appear in the sky to obliterate his foes. Noaah took up his own hymme and sang against Vegna's, dispersing it to Vegna's irritation. Noaah officially renounces his affiliation with the C.P.G. and the nameless man's patience had run out. He summons more viral infected guardians and makes his escape with Vegna out of Ce Palym.
Back in the secret passage in the inn Melody urges the girls to go on without her. The three reach the streets of Ce Palym from the end of the passage only to find A.B.R.s and wolf-like guardians littering the streets. Hikari is forced to sing due the sheer number of enemies and Mana and Miko jump into action as vanguards.
With defeated the initial wave of guardians Gannon, appears to be an ally to Ishira's group now, sort of. He still insists on fighting alone and runs ahead taking on countless guardians. Rhaplanca, Noaah, and Ishira make their way through the horde a little more consistently with less energy wasted by Rhaplanca and Noaah singing together and Ishira defending against units that were too close. By the time Gannon reaches the girls he has exhausted all his strength and he is injured without realizing it. Miko quickly heals him with her Teru magic.
Finally Rhaplanca's group meets up and everyone's together. A quick blast of Hikari's song magic, that was a result of the voices in her head singing along, disposed of the final units around them, giving them time for a breather. But the effort was too much for Hikari to handle and she fell to her knees. Rhaplanca offered her healing song magic, but since F.P.D. can't be cured by song magic it did nothing more than ease her fatigue. Gannon rushed to her side, knowing full well that Hikari was suffering from F.P.D. and asked her if she heard voices, she confirms as fear arises in her.
Meanwhile in Seraca, Nel has had a long day helping her mother in her shop. Her mother promised Nel some time off tomorrow with her tomorrow and Nel excitedly agrees to it. As she readies herself for bed she tries hard to remember things before she came to Seraca, but the only thing that comes to mind is a hymme from her past that solaced her. She sings and not long her energy is drained from the hymme and she falls back on her back and into sleep.
As everyone is regrouping in Ce Palym and discussing their options the C.P.G. President's assistant finally locates them. She cuts their reunion short and snatches up Hikari to an airship using Melody as bait. Everyone can only watch in shock and anger. Naomi is revealed to be the cause of a similar situation in Gannon's past. The same situation was playing out now and despite Gannon's wish to avenge his lost love, he couldn't bring himself to take down the airship because Hikari was on board. The pain of his past being repeated caused him to take flight in his shape-shift form and pursue the ship down the tower. Mana immediately follows on foot and those who remain preferred to come up with a plan first. Soon after, when everyone agrees to follow, they tailed to other two on foot as well, descending down the tower. Unfortunately Miko and Rhaplanca are deathly scared of heights and Rhaplanca offers a safer method of traveling inside the tower but locating an entrance is half the battle.
Inside the airship Naomi attempts to trick Hikari into singing Calamity in order to protect her friends. She reveals the horrible truth about the failed Weapon before her, Gannon's lost love. She reveals the C.P.G. corp.'s plan to live inside the tower once the goddess is destroyed. She instills in Hikari that Fa Ciel has been oppressed by the goddess and if she sings her friends can be spared.
On the way down the tower Noaah reveals a little more information about Rhemi, the Life Giver, that the C.P.G. had obtained. Her location is still unknown but the knowledge that the C.P.G. doesn't know the location eases Rhaplanca a little.

Mana has just about made it to the halfway point and decides to stop there for a few minutes.
The others have decided to give up on climbing down the tower and take a better alternative: the elevators from inside the tower. The only problem they now face is finding the entrance along a narrow slope with nothing below them but the Sea of Death. They manage to find it, however and quickly enter the tower after Rhaplanca enters her ID into the system with Pallieu dialect Hymmnos (a dialect that only ß-types from Pallieu or above understand).
In the meantime, Hikari is completely confused. When they arrive, she is taken away and forced to undergo the last painful installations before Calamity can fully activate. In this state of pain and confusion, the virus takes over and she is hacked into, losing all of her willpower. She is brought out with the rest of the F.P.D.'s and the Hymn begins against her will.
Inside of the Tower, power surges and trembling starts, a result of the Hymn beginning. Rhaplanca fears that they may be too late and wonders about trying to use the Binary Field to get a hold of Hikari, but then Noaah informs her that it would take much longer to try and do that. And so they continue as quickly as possible, taking the elevators down to the city of Seraca.
Gannon stops by Melody's inn to get his bearings, then jumps off the side of the tower, using his wings in his other form to keep him from falling to his death. He spots Mana climbing down the side of the Tower and decides to grab onto her and take her with him. They can both hear a Song in the distance and decide to follow it. Before they can get too far, a few dozen vanguards and their Reyvateils interfere and another battle begins.
Meanwhile Rhaplanca and the others have made it to Seraca after the unnerving trip down the unstable tower. They find themselves caught up in the battle as well and are now fighting their way over to where Hikari is being forced to sing.
Inside of the observation deck, the mysterious man enters and informs Naomi and the President about the invaders. He then asks why the C.P.G. is troubling themselves over the Fau Pira so much. The President reveals his plans to use the Fau Pira until the virus destroys it, which would result in the deaths of all the Reyvateils connected to the server. That revelation does not sit well with Naomi. After a tiny altercation between her and the man, they both go their seperate ways and Naomi heads out to the deck where the F.P.D.'s are singing to make a final stand.
Noaah realizes that the Fau Pira has almost completely transformed so he and Rhaplanca decide to sync their song magic together while fighting when suddenly a man introducing himself as Anther joins the fray. Ishira initially distrusts the man but decides to just keep an eye on him for now. Miko uses her magic to attack but then decides to stick with fighting as her magic is being exhausted by this point.
Elsewhere, Nel and her mother are out and about when the Hymn starts up and there is panic in the streets. Nel is terrified of the Hymn and seems to get a sense of deja vu, but at the same time is drawn to it. She tells her mother to go back and that she will rejoin her shortly, then heads off in the direction of the Song. She literally stumbles into a battle between C.P.G.'s security squads and Rhaplanca's group. Ishira saves her as she is being attacked by a vanguard. After those groups are taken care of, Rhaplanca introduces everyone, including Anther to Nel, and uses her song magic to restore everyone to full health. Nel responds by using her own magic to protect everyone, which Rhaplanca finds the magic strangely familiar to something she knew before. Nel then introduces herself.
Mana and Gannon are both fighting, but Mana retreats, being too exhausted to do much else and decides to rest for awhile. Gannon on the other hand grabs hold of an attractive blonde Reyvateil and takes her hostage, threatening to drop her if she doesn't answer his questions. He interrogates her about the wherabouts of Naomi and Hikari both. She points him in the direction of where the F.P.D.'s are being held and he releases her none too gently. He then makes his way into the C.P.G. building and charges in, dispatching some guards along the way. Inside of the observation room, he spies Naomi out on the deck and goes out to "greet" her.
Now that the Fau Pira is done transforming, Naomi decides it is wisest to let the F.P.D.'s recover, but before she can stop the Hymn, Gannon grabs a hold of her and presses a blade to her throat. The woman merely laughs it off, warning him that if he kills her, Hikari and the other F.P.D.'s are sure to die. Conflicted over this, Gannon remembers that he promised to protect Hikari, and despite wanting to avenge his lost love, he decides to let the woman live for a while longer, at least until he can get the information on how to save the F.P.D.'s from her.

Mana discovers that Gannon found a lead when taking flight and decided to trail behind despite her exhaustion. She finally regroups with Ishira and the others much to Miko's comical relief. Just in time for Hikari's hymn to complete, but the transformed Fau Pira isn't doing anything...
Meanwhile Naomi, as Gannon's hostage by her own will, reveals that she has the best interest of the F.P.D.s in mind rather than the President who just wants to trash them as soon as their mission is complete. As soon as Hikari's hymn is finished she orders ECCHRA to release her hold on Hikari. She reveals that dives suppress the symptoms of F.P.D. and that there is a lost Hymn that reverses the effects done to the Fau Pira; it can even destroy the virus. Her priority was to administer a dive to Hikari first but Gannon interfered and snatched Hikari and jumped over the balcony attempting to fly her to safety to the rest of the group below. Naomi attempts to stop Gannon by ordering her troops to unleash fire while he's in flight. A little of Gannon and Naomi's past is revealed, apparently Naomi was set up to take the fall for the death of Gannon's lost love by the President. It seems that Naomi, Gannon, and Gannon's lost love had been friends not long ago.
The nameless man laughed at Naomi's failure and dropped an order from the President on her. She's to be transferred back to their headquarters in Daila. He suggests that she spends that time refining her project. This doesn't sit well with Naomi and she refuses to accept it, arguing that the nameless man is going to be transferred for his arrogance. She orders another round of fire upon Gannon despite the man's orders for her to cease. The man notices that the barrage surrounding Gannon is getting close to Rhaplanca below and he orders the troops directly to cease fire. Anger drives him to reveal his plan to Naomi about killing the Life Giver to draw out the Goddess and end her tyranny. He suggests that Naomi tend to the reyvateils for now, and let him take the next step for the C.P.G. Naomi ignores the man and continues to order treatment for the F.P.D.s. and the nameless man promises to bring Hikari back.
Below, the group watches in horror as two barrages surround Gannon and Hikari. The first shots missed, but the second barrage clipped one of Gannon's wings sending him hurling to the ground. Above all else he swore to protect Hikari so he used himself as a cushion from impact. Once they hit the ground the force separated them, Gannon taking the brunt of the damage and it showed. Now both were unconscious.
The nameless man makes his way through the C.P.G. building, pondering how long he must keep up his charade for the C.P.G. He stops by Vegna's room and requests his assistance to seek out and destroy the Life Giver. He decides to search the Eve of Reyvateils for information on the eternal singer's location, purely a stealth mission.
Back outside, Rhaplanca administers healing song magic to Hikari and Gannon, but this can only sustain them until they get get to medical help. The group tries to think of a place of refuge and decide on Behdla. Unfortunately, Nel's responsibilities to her mother and her shop prevented her from joining. The group doubles back to the tower entrance on the outskirts of Seraca, Gannon on Ishira's back and Hikari on Mana's. Rhaplanca navigates the group through the tower to Behdla and Mana navigates once outside the tower. Mana's knowledge of the world was a blessing. Everyone is on the verge of collapsing with exhaustion but they manage to get their injured friends to a doctor.
Gannon and Hikari are given beds and the doctor examines Gannon's fragile state first, the diagnosis is rest and medicine for a days before he can even move. Between that and the song magic he was going to recover. He examined Hikari in the next room, although she was not physically injured her diagnosis was much more scary, a coma with no guarantee of her waking up. Her only hope is someone to dive into her and ease the stress on her mind. Rhaplanca offers to proxy dive for Hikari if there is no other alternative. Only, the dive shop isn't very reliable in Behdla, the machines constantly break. Ishira decides to check into the inn in this downtime and leaves the rest of the group, bringing back two room keys. He and Mana talk over when to treat Hikari, now or when Gannon wakes up? Either way the machines had to be fixed first. Ishira practically forces Rhaplanca to rest at the inn while Ishira and Mana take care of the dive shop. Rhaplanca was so exhausted, knowing that there wasn't much she could do at the moment, she gave in and rested after taking a bath. Miko and the others remained at the clinic. Miko administered more medicine to Gannon and insisted on staying to make sure their friends recovered.
At the dive shop an overly-romantic dive shop owner puts the moves on Mana who retaliates with her gun blade. He informs that a mechanic from Daila has not showed up to fix the machines. Mana almost breaks down from exhaustion and emotions but decides to scale down to Daila alone to fetch the mechanic. Ishira stays to help the owner however he can. After seeing how the owner acted around Mana, he and Mana decided to watch him around their reyvateils. The owner doubted that anything could be done without a mechanic and kicked a machine, which actually quick fixed that one machine. Ishira took a more tolerable approached and cleaned out a control panel and reset a switch, causing it to power up as well. Before cleaning the rest, he hatches a devious plan to scare the dive shop owner. He informs that the reyvateils he travels with are cold, heartless women that want nothing to do with men and makes up horrible reputations for the girls. Satisfied by the owner's horror, Ishira spends the rest of the day cleaning the dive shop, but in the end only the first two powered on machines were still working.
Ishira decides to test them out with Rhaplanca after dinner. She agrees and fails at her initial 'character role' Ishira forged for her, but once she caught on she quickly re-instilled fear into the dive shop owner by playing the part. After killing the dive shop owner's spirit, the proceed with their dive. Ishira succeeds and completes Rhaplanca's second level.
Meanwhile at the clinic, Gannon was having a hard time coming to consciousness, the pain from his injuries kept putting him under. But soon enough, he was healing enough to use magic. Eerily he had begun to freeze his bed down to the floor. Miko countered protectively with fire magic, causing Gannon to awaken. He was still too weak to sit up, but just strong enough to tease a girl.

Gannon wakes up to Miko's magic and attempts to flirt with her, the action going unnoticed by Miko because of her exhaustion and worry. He asks where Hikari is and Miko attempts to hide the truth from him. He doesn't catch the lie right away, but soon realizes that she is fibbing. Miko tries to put him to sleep with a spell but it is reflected back at her and she eventually gives up trying to get him to rest, allowing Gannon to sit in on the talk with the doctor.
After the dive, Rhaplanca and Ishira go shopping. Rhaplanca buys a grathnode crystal and Ishira purchases a new weapon, and is impressed by Rhaplanca's skill in bartering when she catches the owner of the shop trying to swindle them both out of money. She explains that she learned from Rhemi and reveals that she wants to use the crystal to strengthen her song magic, feeling guilt over her inability to help her friends earlier. She asks Ishira to install the grathnode crystal and he is reluctant, knowing that the installation is a painful procedure but complies. When he finishes the install, Ishira worries that he hurt Rhaplanca, but she reassures him that it was the least painful install she's ever had. She also silently laments over the feelings she is developing for Ishira and how they will have to be seperated soon because of her mission.
Back in the clinic, the doctor is continuing the discussion of Hikari's condition with Gannon and he brings up what Naomi had told him of her Cosmosphere being infected with a virus. He also voices his doubts about Mana's ability as a novice diver and that she wouldn't be able to handle such a dire situation as a first timer. Miko protests, worried over his health but Gannon dismisses her, hurting her feelings in the process. Ishira and Rhaplanca show up, bringing updates on the status of the dive shop and also informing them of Mana's whereabouts, upsetting Miko further. Miko manages to hide her true feelings and goes on ahead, planning what they should do with Hikari while they wait for Mana.
Meanwhile, Mana has made it to Daila and looks for the mechanic Nereus, who is also her friend of a couple years now. She is mistaken for a robber with her rude and hasty entrance. He attacks her but she quickly deflects the attack and soon after he recognizes her. She quickly fills him in and explains herself. She needs him to fix the machines in Behdla. Her friend Hikari's life is depending on it. At the mention of Hikari's name Nereus has a flashback of a little girl that he used to play with as a young child and wonders if it's the same girl. He agrees to go back with Mana after making a quick delivery. Once that is done, they return to the shop to lock up when he finds a threatening anonymous note. He wonders about it, but when Mana questions him, he denies any problems and tells her to get moving.
Back in Behdla, Gannon realizes that he's upset Miko and makes a mental note to apologize later. Miko attempts to carry Hikari over to the dive shop herself, but her knees buckle under the weight. Miko just isn't as strong physically as her sister and she is exhausted as it is, staying up to care for both Gannon and Hikari. Ishira takes Hikari from Miko, noting at the difference in weight between Hikari and Gannon. Miko voices her concerns for the shortening window of time they have and so they decide to go to the dive shop and prepare for the dive.
In the meantime, Mana and Nereus are making good time back to Behdla. Nereus shows Mana his new invention, a mask that nulls status effects. Mana attempts to use her magic on him to test out his mask, only to have her botch up her poison spell and accidentally poison him. They both head back, not realizing that Nereus has been poisoned, and they reach the town. Nereus and Mana immediately go for the dive shop and he begins working on the machines, still feeling ill from the effects of the poison. Miko notices the signs immediately and uses her healing magic on him. After he successfully fixes the machines and he and Miko decide to go to the doctor's and get some antidote for him just to be on the safe side.
Gannon and the others enter into the dive shop, and Gannon is wondering if he didn't get up too soon. After recieving some more affection from the owner, the girls decide to put Gannon next to the dive shop owner for the Reyvateils' protection. Gannon teases the dive shop owner only to have him tease Gannon back just before activating the dive. Rhaplanca immediately jumps into action as the Proxy, informing Gannon that she will be there to back him up should an emergency arise. She then sets to the secondary task of trying to contact Hikari via her hymn code in the Binary Field in Ar Tonelico.
And so the dive starts for Gannon and Hikari...

While Rhaplanca scans the Binary Field for Hikari's hymn code while still submitting most of her focus on the proxy dive, Gannon seems to not need the safety net of the proxy dive. He is aided by a deeper representation of herself, a sexy and sultry Hikari and a song magic, Solara. The sexy representation of Hikari suggests to fight back against the virus invading Hikari's mind.
Rhaplanca has made no headway in locating Hikari's hymn code. When it comes to third generation reyvateils, Rhaplanca is utterly uneducated and doesn't know that they do not have a hymn code. She resorts to dive into Hikari as well through her proxy without a visible body and locates something similar to the Binary Field connected to Hikari's cosmosphere. Easily penetrated through Hikari's soul space, a scan released a flurry of information on F.P.D.s and this new server the Fau Pira that has been tainted by humanity. This information erupts a shockwave of anger within Rhaplanca.
Meanwhile, Nereus and Miko decide to grab some food and talk about stopping at the weapon shop. Miko learns about Nereus' flashback of a Hikari that he hopes to be the Hikari Miko knows. Nereus turns out to be a dessert-a-holic and loves fudge most of all. After the two order soup and funbuns, plus his OWN order of TWO double fudge surprises, they discover their eyes are bigger than their stomachs and ask for boxes and the check. Nereus insists on paying and taking the food back to store at the inn before heading to the weapon shop.
Inside the proxy dive, Gannon and the sultry Hikari, along with Solara, blaze through a dangerous and painful path to Hikari's Boundary Gate, much of the danger to Hikari's soul space was due the the higher level Hikari using too advanced of magic in the upper levels, to fight off the virus in this level to ease Hikari before attempting to install her memories. Solara's attempts to thwart the virus on her own were unsuccessful but Gannon stepped up and decimated the virus through brute force.
In the town of Behdla, outside, a promiscuous young man stumbled, buzzed, through the streets looking for a pretty young girl to drink with. Simultaneously, the mechanic assigned to fix the dive machines that day shows up. Between her anger for losing a paying job and her distaste for fellow reyvateils, she chucked a wrench at the machines and left without a word. Outside the shop she spots the promiscuous man and acknowledges him but would rather not be bothered by a drunk. The drunkard eyes the mechanic and assesses that she is pretty cute and decides to woo the unrefined beauty by inviting to her dinner at the cafe. Appealing to the food, the wily mechanic fakes womanly charm to score a free meal. Just as they were about to leave Mana, who followed them outside, interrupts them to ask why the mechanic acted with hostility. She explains her anger of losing her job, and shows her dislike of divers 'sick fantasies' that wasted her time. Finally, she refused to apologize, stating that reyvateils were no good to the world. Mana states that apologies are nothing to her and warns that the 'coincidence' should not be repeated and sends them off. The mechanic's likewise attitude bids farewell and returns to trying to score a free meal out of a drunk. The two get more acquainted. The mechanic introduces herself as Irika Stone and boasts about being the best Dive Therapist in Seraca, ironically. Then the drunkard introduced himself as 'The Great Suran Orianu' who has never lost in war or love. Irika shrugged of the flamboyant showboating and his pet names, determined for the free meal. Back inside the dive shop both Ishira and Mana take the lesson to heart and agree that they both must be more vigilant.
Meanwhile back in Ce Palym, Melody assesses the damage done to her inn and does what she can to tidy up. While doing so she discovers Hikari's stuffed Pepen was left behind and hangs onto it for safe keeping.
Rhaplanca had switched back over to the Binary Field to check for a link between the two servers, her anger still intact. ECCHRA stumbles upon Rhaplanca's intrusion in Hikari's cosmosphere and materializes in the Binary Field to acknowlege Rhaplanca who assumes the girl to be the connection the Fau Pira server she was looking for. Rhaplanca questions ECCHRA about the Fau Pira's purpose to the humans. ECCHRA replies that the Fau Pira was originally something pure long ago as something to live in harmony with Ar Tonelico, but now it is unknown who exactly wants to use this twisted server that causes suffering to so many F.P.D.s trapped in a nightmare of emotions inside their own server. ECCHRA voices the plea of the F.P.D.s to be freed from the tyranny of whoever defiled their server. Rhaplanca denies any good coming from humanity at this point and agrees to do whatever is in her power to stop the Fau Pira and the F.P.D.s from being abused any further. ECCHRA leaves Rhaplanca with the unknown focus to destroy. She decides to place the Fau Pira above her mission to sing at the Chronicle of Orgel selfishly. Which unknowingly invited a seeker virus to infiltrate her cosmosphere to infect her server, Ar Tonelico. She calls upon another self to take care of the intruder to which only the representation of Rhaplanca's will to be free of her mission replied to the call. Rhaplanca's denial of humanity put this representation as the highest authority at that moment, a mistake she didn't realize because this representation and it's outlook was unknown to her. Bewitching (the representation that answered the call) was going to carry out the mission, but a second thought arose: an out to the mission Rhaplanca was chained to. Bewitching decided to drop the virus into a lower level and escaped to her own level without the moderator personality monitoring the proxy even knowing.
Meanwhile, Gannon defeats the virus on this level of Hikari's cosmosphere and progresses even further into the proxy dive. He and the sultry Hikari, aided by Solara, finally locate the Hikari of this level and Gannon is left alone with her to reinstall her memories. Gannon's honesty and patience gained her trust and she hands the 'key' over to him to install. In a tender embrace, he administers a painless install and Hikari paradigm shifts. At the altar the sultry Hikari congratulates them and both personas wish him back. End Hikari's first level.
Hikari awakens in the real world to a commotion. Rhaplanca has found out her error in her cosmosphere. Although Hikari and Gannon have awoken, Rhaplanca is in a critical state of her choosing and will not wake up. On the verge of death, the group in the dive shop argue over what to do to save Rhaplanca. Ishira practically jumps into a dive pod to save her but Mana and dive shop owner pull him back and warn him of the danger. Luckily Rhemi, who had sensed Rhaplanca in the Binary Field right away, materialized in her soul space to bring her back to sanity. Showing her trademark tough love Rhemi convinces Rhaplanca everything is going to be fine. They decide together not to tell Rhaplanca's friends about the mishap, but Rhaplanca should be dived into regularly.
Rhaplanca finally wakes up and Ishira immediately wants to take her to the inn to rest. Hikari was shaken with guilt and ran from the dive shop. Rhaplanca wanted to follow but she was too weak to walk and passed out from the exertion. Ishira took her back to the inn and Mana and Gannon acted as damage control for Hikari's emotions.

Hikari apologizes to Gannon, feeling guilt over the death of his lost love, to which he tries to reassure her that she is innocent. Hikari doesn't seem to be that easily swayed and he then convinces her to go back to the Inn where they can talk more in private. Hikari agrees, dropping the subject and making a silent vow to herself that she will do anything to protect her friends, including sacrificing herself. And so they both head into the Inn.
At the same time, Miko and Nereus are both inside of the Inn, dropping the remainders of their dinner off. They both take notice of Hikari and Gannon and Miko takes the food from Nereus to put away, while he experiences yet another flashback of he and Hikari as young children. Then, he approaches Hikari suddenly, but his childhood friend is frightened off and hides behind Gannon, who protectively counters using his ice and thunder magic. However, Mana stops him before things get too heated up. Nereus reveals an old nickname of "Bunnie" that he used to call Hikari because of her skittish nature and teases her a bit before heading out, causing Hikari to have more questions about her past, however she decides to speak with Gannon and tackle the mystery of her illness and the C.P.G. first. She asks Mana to apologize for her and Miko and her sister leave to do a bit of shopping before the shops close, taking Nereus with them.
The trio leave for shopping and happen to come across the same weapons shop that Ishira and Rhaplanca had visited earlier, and the man attempts to swindle them as well. Mana isn't fooled, however and threatens the man into giving them a better deal. Nereus keeps insisting that money isn't the issue, but Mana can't stand to see a friend of hers cheated and refuses to listen, and so the three of them leave with a rather sizeable discount. Nereus offers to pay for Mana's things, but Mana vehemently refuses, stating that she doesn't like to feel indebted to people. Miko hints that it's probably due to her feelings of inadequacy as a half-breed.
Back at the Inn, Gannon and Hikari head into one of the rooms that had been reserved for them and Gannon waits for Hikari to start talking. However, she is having a hard time finding the words and cries that she left the Pepen behind while they were escaping back in Ce Palym. If only she could have the stuffed animal, it might be a little easier to talk... And Gannon silently recalls which stores sell stuffed animals. He finally reassures Hikari that Naomi tends to tell half-truths and fills the rest with lies, and that Hikari has just been confused and manipulated by the woman. Hikari argues with him, convinced that she is nothing more than a weapon and has no will of her own when it comes down to it. She tells Gannon a bit more about her past; which he unsurprisingly relates to a similar story told to him in his past. Hikari reveals to him that the world might be ending and she is the cause of it, because it was her Hymn that injured the Goddess Nelia. She also confides in him that she had absolutely no control over herself and was forced to sing the Hymn the second time around. Gannon informs her that it wasn't her fault, and that they infected her mind with a virus in order to control her. He gently reassures her that he won't let it happen again and that he's going to protect her, the same promise that he'd made in her Cosmosphere. Hikari then asks him more about F.P.D. and finds out that it isn't an illness, rather, it means that the Server she depends on for Song Magic is not Ar Tonelico. Rather, Fau Pira. Hence, Fau Pira Dependent=F.P.D. It upsets Hikari further and she momentarily relapses, unwittingly connecting with ECCHRA, but quickly recovers, thinking that she'd fallen asleep. Gannon is a bit unsettled by this. He secretly wonders if her relapsing is due to the virus and is pondering diving into her Cosmosphere again. However he hides this from her and tells her that she should get some sleep as she's exhausted. She believes him and agrees, falling asleep soon after. Gannon goes out to buy a stuffed Pepen for Hikari. He limps back due to his injuries, but manages and returns with the Pepen for Hikari before going to sleep himself.
In the room next door, Ishira worries over Rhaplanca and wonders if he should check on the others, but decides against it, choosing to remain faithfully by Rhaplanca's side until she awakens. She wakes up and tiredly pleads with him to get some sleep before falling asleep again. Ishira finally obeys, convinced that Rhaplanca has started to feel better.
In the meantime, Nereus, Mana and Miko have stopped at the item shop and Miko goes to work picking out medicines, stopping and noticing for the first time dualstall crystals. She studies them a bit and decides to buy some for Hikari as a peace offering. Nereus sets to finding the rest of the items to repair his mask. The three leave, and get back to the Inn to find that everyone else has gone to sleep.
Skip ahead to the next morning and Hikari awakens to a cold and unsettling surprise. Not only has the room frosted over, but apparently Hikari is witness to the aftereffects of her sleepwalking. She has somehow stumbled into bed with Gannon. Embarrassed, she jumps out of bed before he can wake up and realize what's happened. It's there she notices that his ice magic has gone out of control, and worries over him being cold. She tries covering him with her blanket and uses her healing Song Magic on him, but it has no real affect. And so she rushes out to try and make him something warm and healthy for breakfast, and comes up with Ham Cocktail Soup. An iffy-looking creation that tastes strangely good, if the consumer can get over the disgusting look first.
Rhaplanca wakes up and decides to let Isira sleep in. She hopes for a bath, but her thoughts are interrupted when she smells Hikari's soup. She heads in and is at first unsure of what Hikari has created, but after trying it is pleasantly surprised. The two sit and eat, and soon they are joined by Miko and Nereus. There Miko brings up dualstall, much to the embarrassment of both Rhaplanca and Hikari. The two Reyvateils hesitantly decide to try it and Miko goes to get the supplies for the bath.
Hikari hurriedly leaves to bring some soup to Gannon, while Rhaplanca takes some to Yue and Ishira. Yue decides to be difficult, however, and Ishira is initially concerned about the food, but tries it and happily eats Yue's share as well.
Gannon wakes up, startled by Hikari who offers him the soup cheerfully. He reluctantly tries it based on sparing Hikari's feelings and surprisingly finds it to his liking. Hikari thanks him for buying the Pepen for her and he teases her lightly, telling her that he didn't buy it, only to have it taken seriously. He falls asleep again, teasing Hikari once again about dualstalling.
As Hikari leaves the room, she bumps into Nereus, who is looking for his Double Fudge Surprise that Miko had stored in their room. She hastily greets him before attempting to sneak into the bath alone, as it seems she's gotten cold feet. Miko finds out and tells Rhaplanca that Hikari has started and she can join anytime.

Rhaplanca joins Hikari in the bath and at first it's a little awkward, but eventually the Reyvateils are able to warm up to each other and talk.
At C.P.G. Corp, Naomi is reassigned after the President discovers her attempts at researching the Fau Pira and the F.P.D. Reyvateils. After he dismisses her, a soldier comes in claiming to have seen Mana and Nereus. He reveals that he's been keeping tabs on him for awhile, and now grows suspicious of their haste to repair the dive shop in Behdla. He decides to deploy troops to occupy the small town.
Meanwhile, Miko begins having visions of what she fears to be the future. She keeps it to herself, however and tries not to worry the others. She begins acting a little clumsy, making the others a bit suspicious but they say nothing.
As Rhaplanca and Hikari are in the bath, they begin to open up to each other more. Hikari asks Rhaplanca if she is all right, stating that she'd heard Rhaplanca had done a Proxy dive to help Hikari. However, she fears that since their Cosmospheres were linked at that point, the virus that Hikari had in her Cosmosphere could have been easily transferred to Rhaplanca's. The ß-type Reyvateil denies it, saying that she was certain that viruses from the Fau Pira cannot affect Ar Tonelico, however knowing that she is lying; she has indeed been infected by that virus. Hikari begins to feel ill as though she is relapsing, but in turn tells her own string of lies to Rhaplanca, reassuring her that she only has a headache. So the two decide to end the bath session for now and find Gannon and Ishira.
Ishira and Rhaplanca talk in confidance, with Rhaplanca confiding in him about the virus and they are both debating diving to purge the virus before it becomes too serious. She mentions that she does not believe that she has been as badly infected by the virus as an F.P.D. Also, having learned of F.P.D.'s, she explains to Ishira a little more of what she's learned of Hikari and the other F.P.D. Reyvateils.
At the same time, in a seperate room, Hikari and Gannon are debating diving as well, to hopefully halt progression of the virus and/or to stop an F.P.D. outbreak in Hikari. She hesitantly asks Gannon if he could dive into her, and then leaves the room quickly, embarrassed that she'd asked such a thing.
Out in the kitchen, Nereus begins choking, and Mana resorts to a rather painful and brutish way of unlodging the item stuck in his windpipe. Miko disapproves and scolds her sister, only to cause a scuffle between the two yet again. Mana storms off and runs into Hikari and Gannon, letting them know that she's going to go and have a few drinks somewhere to let off some steam. Soon after she leaves and Rhaplanca and Ishira appear. Miko and Nereus decide to test out his mask outside of town in the meantime.
Hikari rushes out before everyone else, still feeling extremely shy and intimidated about Gannon diving into her Cosmosphere. Not looking, she bumps into a young girl. The two catch their bearings, and suddenly feel a strange attachment towards one another. The girl mentions that she is visiting the doctor on a sick visit and Hikari offers to walk with her but the offer is declined. Rhaplanca catches up after the girl leaves and the two Reyvateils talk. Hikari fails to mention the girl and the strange feeling she'd felt, but does confide in Rhaplanca that she's apprehensive about allowing Gannon to dive. Rhaplanca empathizes and in doing so, accidentally lets part of another secret of hers slip out.
The foursome enter into the dive shop, meeting up with the amorous dive shop tech, Zek yet again, and the dives begin.

While Gannon, Hikari, Rhaplanca and Ishira head to the dive shop, Miko and Nereus decide to test out his mask which uses grathnode crystals to help prevent certain status ailments during a fight. She throws quite a few different magic spells at him, and at first it is resistant, but then finally the magic starts seeping through it again. However Nereus is pleased that the mask held out thus far.
The two decide to start a sparring match, and Miko warns Nereus that she will start to use magic if she feels overwhelmed. While in the midst of sparring, Nereus starts to get serious and attacks Miko as if he's really fighting. To make matters worse, Miko can hardly concentrate on the battle because of the recurring vision of the destruction of the town she keeps having.
Over at the bar, Mana is drowning her blues away with some spirits, trying to ease the upset caused by the fight she had with Miko. She suddenly sees the very same vision Miko is having and is alarmed, deciding that maybe she should find her sister and set things right. More importantly, find out if her sister is having the same visions of death and destruction. Mana looks around for Miko but cannot find her, so she decides to search the clinic. There she is stopped by the doctor who refuses to let her leave while drunk. He forces her to drink a toxin-cleansing tea and lie down while he tends to the sick girl whom Hikari met before.
He discovers that she is a Reyvateil and that Tattoolist Disease was causing her to fall ill.
The girl is so dismayed by the news that her negative emotions cause her to break out into a full-blown F.P.D. infection. The doctor sedates the girl and begins to evacuate everyone out with Mana's help.
In the meantime, things are heating up in the sparring fight between Nereus and Miko. Finally, she panics when he almost knocks her out and begins using her magic spells. When Nereus starts going berserk, she feels it necessary to use her poison magic to get him to quit. It works, and he soon snaps out of it due to the poison's effects.
He then mentions to her of a few ideas of weapons for her to use in battle, and when Miko goes to respond, she once again sees the vision of destruction. She realizes with horror that this vision is not a false alarm and informs Nereus immediately. They decide to tell everyone else as well.
Meanwhile, Gannon is finishing his dive in Hikari's Cosmosphere when he is stopped by a personality of Hikari's who demands that he ceases diving. He vehemently refuses to which the persona responds that she will intervene should he continue to attempt diving. When they awaken one can already see hints of Hikari's hesitation to allow Gannon to continue to dive into her.

Nereus goes to warn the group of the danger while Miko sets off to find Mana.
Miko meets up with Mana, who is helping patients escape the clinic, just outside of the building and witnesses panicking from the rumors about the F.P.D.
In the meantime, Nereus finds that Hikari and Gannon are both conscious out of the dive and tells them about Miko's vision of the future and that the town is in danger. To confirm his story, Hikari begins to exhibit signs that she is reacting to an F.P.D. nearby and in a trance, goes to where the other F.P.D. is. She arrives there and is shaken out of her trance when Miko and Mana approach her.
In Seraca, meantime, a young man going by the name of 'Cecil' goes into the shop where Nel works only to come in just as C.P.G. soldiers try to apprehend her.
Back in Behdla, Gannon joins with Hikari, Miko and Mana and Mana confirms that there is an F.P.D. outbreak happening. Before they can make any escape plans, the Reyvateil inside the clinic goes completely berserk, destroying the clinic. Miko rushes in to protect the villagers, putting herself in harm's way. Mana and Hikari follow in an attempt to help but find themselves in trouble as well. Gannon saves the day by distracting the F.P.D. long enough for them to get organized. Hikari begins to sing her Song Magic and Mana, Gannon, and Miko start fighting. Soon after Mana gets thrown into him, Nereus joins in on the fight as well. Several destroyed buildings and a grueling fight later, the fight ends and the sick Reyvateil regains her sense of self and the group decides to take her with them.
Meanwhile, Naomi summons a Reyvateil named Tessia in hopes that the Reyvateil will be able to capture Hikari. She warns Tessia not to act rashly as she may see some familiar faces from her past travelling with the F.P.D. Weapon. She then readies and departs for Behdla to capture Hikari under Naomi's orders.
After the battle, the group realizes that the C.P.G. are coming and quickly. Hikari tries to dig Rhaplanca and Ishira out of the pile of rubble that was the Dive Shop but was destroyed by the F.P.D. Gannon attempts to help her and they manage to save Zek, but before they can do more, the C.P.G. arrives and they are forced to flee, Gannon dragging a grief-stricken Hikari away.
