If it's gold you might wanna ask JK. Technically you have equal rights to the art buyer but they said no third party...

I'm entering an illustration/fan art thing I did as a freebie... they said it was ok. I have the person it was original for's permission though.

Hmm, then I'm not sure about it... I'll have to PM the commissioner. The person said they were planning to pay rl money as well, but there's been no payment as of yet, so right now it's really just a Gaia gold commish. Will have to ask JK then. ...; who's JK?

yeah technically you cannot accept rl monies for things that are copy righted to Gaia.
so unless the illustration works as not being zOMG related (like it's one of those illustrations that looks like it might just be a person in a forest vrs you got fluffs and stone coatl and all that jazz in it where it's obvious) you can't sell it for $ or as a print.

gold is usually ok... since we're still on Gaia and Gaia allows/ encourages fan art and stuff like that.... don't know about this contest though.

JK is the Gaia artist who was watching over this contest somewhere...

@Satanic: While I thank you for your attempt to defend me (and I share in a bit of your sentiment) it's a futile cause, honestly. No one can prove anything. And for the record, I had this idea in my head for quite a while, but this contest gave me the incentive to act on it. So I know I didn't gank my idea from whoever's doing the oddly similar coatl pic.

Seems like I'll go sketch up my second idea, and hopefully no one else decides to do the same thing this time... ._.

Then again I hardly see the point with all the WIPs I'm noticing... I doubt my submissions'll so much as place and I'm not keen on wasting another weekend on a pic. :/

The picture that supposedly was ripped off of yours is absolutely nothing like your art. The only thing they share is that they are set in the coatl's lair which I suspect quite a few will be as it's a popular boss.

I honestly don't think any logically minded person would think either of you stole the idea from the other. Your picture is very dark, dramatic lighting while looking at the coatl straight on and has avatars silhouetted and in battle.

The other piece is far brighter and looking down on the coatl from above and there are no avatars. They are *nothing* alike in mood, perspective, composition, color scheme or style. The only thing they share is the subject. Which, I know that Zen was originally thinking of doing the coatl too--and I also know she wasn't ripping anyone's idea. It is just a popular boss and will likely be drawn a lot for this contest.

There was no call for an accusation other than to cause drama. People should let it drop. Both pieces of art are completely unique and beautiful compositions.

Miri-love - Oh! :O Clarification would be nice. x.x; Hmm, I suggest maybe changing up the pose a bit or the angle/perspective of it? Maybe you could have the character interacting a bit more with the background. I'm feeling that the background and the area the character is in a bit too separated and need more connection. Yeah; unfortunately I think the key is composition right now which I think can be worked on in this stage anyway because of the roughness of the picture so far.

<3 Yea... I spent so much time on that darn figure, I don't wanna scrap her. But sometimes you just have to bite the bullet in favour of a better work. gonk

Maybe I really can't do the commission then. Sorry didn't really think too much about copyrights. x.x; Considering I was so used to having people ask me to draw gaia avatar commissions. Didn't' know that rl commission doesn't allow Gaia arts.

I was planning to do art of Zen gardens, but there wasn't going to be very much animated in there. Instead, a lot of popular EI items that would be recognizable as Gaia. It was a pretty free and loose commission that only required me to have it be "Gaia" so I was planning for it to be zOMG. But I guess if it's going to be trouble with the law or anything like that, I'd have to cancel it or something. x.x;
