great thread. i am generally a solo type. but love farming with crews, you can't beat the loot gathered up when running in a pack...

just adding the set which works for me and the reasons while you are compiling data.

1 mantis
2 slash
3 dervish/hot foot
4 fitness (here in case i am running angel set with a crew)
5 hunter's bow
6 meat
7 divinity
8 bandage

rings 1 & 2 ---- mantis and slash... best 1-2 punch (for me) in the game. hit once, twice, and usually the #1 ring is about ready again.

ring 3 --- dervish great for shallow seas farming with the batches of fluffs/spouts and anchor bugs. takes a lot of stamina though, but worth it. sometimes interchangeable with hot foot great constant damage, a bonus when whacking away at stuff with the swords. plus like the hunters bow decent range. not bad on the stamina use as dervish. use this more for hive runs. good on walkers, etc.

ring 4. fitness. a must have. eliminates knockback. they can't push you around.plus any bonus health/stamina etc is needed.

ring 5 ---- hunters bow. i thought this ring is very underrated. great for clams/fluffs/imposing will enemies like lorelei's guards/death masks, etc. the enemy can't outrange you with this "sniper rifle of a weapon."

ring 6 ----meat level 10, well, any level, but this is an example) ...rr4.... 2000+ health points? need i say more? great as a recovery in battle ring, heavy point return, heavy point holding capacity. great for hive/lorelei solo, etc.

ring 7 --- divinity stamina stamina stamina... you know you will be in deep at times. this is that extra edge to keep you from constantly clicking your superchargers.

ring 8 ---- bandage self healing. group healing. strong and fast during the heat of battle or in waiting for the next spawn... (especially with polisher running) if only bandage would/could replace wish in the angel set..... SPACE BAR, hold 8... watch that health rise.

hope it doesn't feel like i am jacking your thread.

and can't wait to see the section on how to approach certain areas. having a plan of attack in mind can save your skin.
O: I should make one of these specifically for the hive...

>_> but do I want to reveal the secrets?

I'm always crewed with at least one friend, but this looks like a good guide to use for those who are friendless and alone, so abysmally aloooone prefer to go it solo. 8D

My solo set.

[Hack, Slash, Shark Attack, Keen Aye], Turtle, Diagnose, Meat, Fitness.

Basically, you just hack away, healing when you need to, and running away to rest when stuff gets tough. Pirate set is great attacking, and it gives me the extra speed to run from mobs. In the later levels, where mobbing becomes commonplace, soloers need to be able to run very fast. Turtle gives you 30 seconds of invincibility, and in fact heals you, so in a tight spot you can beat your way out. Meat gives you a LOT more health, making you harder to kill, especially when Turtle heals all that back up. And Fitness is an overall buff, what's not to like?
That's a lot of reserved spaces in the front.

Might I suggest that the pirate set is a good choice if you're going solo? Lots of good attacks, and keen aye can buff you. You'd need a heal of some kind (I like diagnose) and maybe a long range ring on the other hand, and then your two fave buffs.

Nice guide and all, but could you maybe make the font size a little bigger for us blind folks? I don't want to have to strain my eyes and eventually get a headache just to read. >.>
Just from the ring entry, I disagree with some of your ring choices, as it's seems like you're just going for raw damage, which I don't necessarily feel a good solo player should ever focus on.

Hack - This ring is completely overshadowed by Mantis. Mantis is cheap, faster, and thus does more damage overtime. I've long since abandoned my Hack ring.

Diagnosis - Bandage is better than this unless you're in a crew, as it's cheaper, faster, and builds rage. It also heals more health.

Hunter's Bow - This ring really shouldn't be in the "recommended against" section. Yes, it's fairly weak, but it shouldn't be written off just because it's weak. It's allows you to safely aggro from across the screen because its' ranged is obscene. It's spammable, so if you aggro any normal creature from across the screen, you can effectively shave off like 15% of their health (not an exact percentage). It's cheap so you can spam it without burning through stamina, AND it debuffs speed. And if you're using Scaredy Cat, you can take little-to-no damage from a 1-on-1 encounter most of the time.

Duct Tape/Scaredy Cat - As easy as this game is, if you want to successfully solo through this game (especially the bosses), you should use one of these rings.

Fitness - If you're playing alone, you want to be as strong as possible. Why isn't this ring mentioned at all? =/

Again, strategy is so much more important than raw damage, and I really don't feel that you should be recommending ringsets that reflect damage > strategy.

Hey look, a competent player. I'm glad I am not the only one sorely disappointed in this guide.

We're for you Lux Fortuna!
No kidding, I facepalm'd so hard when I read through this thread. I'm especially disappointed that out of the well-known players that have posted here, none of them thought to address it either. Really, this is the guide that everybody gets behind? =/

I see no mention of mantis within your reccomendations. This is a problem.
I see mention of Shark Attack, which is a horrible ring, within reccomendations.
I also see solar rays, being recomended for it's damage output. Which isn't the point of a ranged ring. And I see Hunter's Bow in the recomended against, which is the best ring if you need a ranged ring.
'Cuz it's got... You know.... Range. Which is the single most useful aspect of a ranged ring, which should pretty much only be used for luring. It's even got a good debuff if you're trying to kill an enemy while running away.

Everything else I've got againt it is my own bias. As I hate Hack. And don't believe diagnose(Even though it's my current healing ring) to be worth a reccomendation when bandage is on the list.
