Its a good idea, even make the implementation of gemstone to ring permanent though, this way veteran players can get benefit out of it. Like having 8 of each rings with different attributes, now there will be 8 times of rings to collect and also DOUBLE ORBs will serve better purpose to veterans ( Increase Market Sell)

I find this concept interesting, having different types of attack types affecting the animated in different ways. Maybe the Demonic having a chance to give the animated fright, fire having a chance of additional burn damage, rock having a chance to root, water having a chance for additional splash damage(Area of Affect), Lightning having a chance to chain onto other animated (Like the Dark Trooper's ARC Caster in Star Wars Battlefront 2), Angel having a slow bonus or something, Wind having knockback.

As for the distribution of gems I can for see 2 or 3 different methods.

1. Recipes.

Different animated have a chance of dropping the recipes for different gems. These may or may not be soulbound as well as the gems may or may not being soulbound. This would be a relatively fair distribution for almost all players of the game and allowing just about everybody who plays to gain these gems. This could also help out the zOMG! economy by increasing the need for loot for these items.

2. Direct drop

Direct drop would cut out the need to go to Back Alley Bargains but would also cut out the value of these items by cutting out the need to gather different loot from the animated.

3. Cash Shop

This would be a bit of an advantage and disadvantage for zOMG!. Whereas yes, it would generate more revenue from the game, it would also damage the game because people would see it as a step towards Pay for Play. It would make the items rarer as well for only being available to a limited amount of people.

Also, if available for Direct Drop and Recipe, these could also be dropped from the Freebie peoples.

Soulbinding?

I'm of the opinion that these shouldn't be soulbound. Especially if it's Cash Shopped. That would most likely frustrate a lot of people who either can't afford or can't get Gaia Cash for one reason or another.

That analogy clarifies it. I still don't approve of penalties in zOMG! though. We haven't needed them thus far.

I've actually played Torchlight - I wasn't aware it had an element system actually. I don't recall my attacks ever being gimped. o.O

As to why I'm grumpy... Probably because:

1) It's a game paradigm that I don't think would suit zOMG!. Elemental factors are a mainstay of many other MMOs. zOMG! would have a better niche in the market if it focused on elements in a more purely RP... err.. element.

2) Resistances are penalties. The last time I proposed something with penalties, it got shot down in flames (fairly too, mind). I'm just miffed that it's now getting thunderous ovation.

Ok, I'm looking into this, I pretty much kept them because they're expected.

Similarly, people probably don't notice the Shift or Red effects.

Our current subject shouldn't be hidden, thought.

1) You used to! pirate Not optimal, we have the opportunity to address gameplay issues with this and doing so would probably be better long-term. This is both a game and a community, I think the first currently needs more help. Improving it could at the same time improve the second.

One of my goals is to somehow reconcile mechanically relevant with RP Free, and I'm getting close. The current idea, upon closer look, has flaws that need working on and details that need fleshing out. It can be done. I'll prove it to ye and we'll both be happeh.

2) I got Lucky: less people around, most expect this out of an Elemental system due to its RPScissors nature, my idea wasn't very detailed if you look at it closely, the focus is on the random part (we're assuming a typical system remember), and I'm not the first to propose such, you pretty much were.

I'm going through some of yer'oldy threads to collect relevant comments to further foster my thoughts o3o

By adding in customization you will be stabling the first nail into the coffin that will be zOMGs "Casual" name.

it seems thats...it has also an effect to those animated...like lighting = paralyze, earth = stun, angelic = minus armor ...or something like that lols...

i like the idea...elemental rings...whooooooooaw....cant wait...!
There could also be the Normal type... and like the weapon types... like almost everything confused

I'm on the fence about this one. Elementals are good as long as the animated are weak to certain elements but will this make the game more cumbersome? Hmm...

I think adding elemental would be awesome! It would definitely make the gaming in Zomg a bit more strategic.
