SnowMagusTabi's 2009 Writing Contest

Hello dear writers! I'm SnowMagusTabi but you can call me Kimora. I'll be your host and and judge for this annual writing contest I'm planning to have. I've noticed a lot of great and amazing not to mention talented writers out there. So, I want to see more of what you guys can do with your writing skills - in other words, if you're looking for a challenging writing contest, you've come to the right place. I just have to go over a few basic rules and instructions I need you to follow:

- To enter this competition, all you need to do is post a comment. You can put anything as long as its appropriate like something about you or what you major in, in your writing. Just be sure to say that you're entering
- No rude comments allowed! Discouraging other writers is horrible! This mainly goes to the gaians who are merely observing the competition.
- Mind about what you write and post because this is available to all gaians to read.
- Only the first 10 gaians to post on this will be counted into the competition.
- In this competition, you will be given a theme or topic with some rules and twists I may include and a deadline to turn in your written work.
- Those who cannot post their work by the deadline will be disqualified. Those who disobey the rules will also be disqualified.
- In each round, there will be eliminations besides deadlines and rules. Those writers whose pieces does not follow the rules that may be given and/or the theme will also be eliminated. And the writer whose piece is favored least will be eliminated. So in each round, there will be an elimination or more.
-If there are writers that wish to let me post my comments on all writing for you to see on how I am/was judging, just tell me so when you post your stories otherwise, I will only give out the results. Yes, you need to tell me in EVERY round.
-Donations are allowed. Just merely send it to me (you'll see why)

Well, I think I covered everything. If there are anymore questions, please ask and I will answer it as soon as possible.
The prize - Any donations to this contest will be transfered (and remembered) to the prize corner. Not only will the prize be the great feeling of winning, but also 3k and two random items. If the contest seems to be getting very interesting, I will consider adding more prizes. But I will not announce the additions until after a round.
If there are only less than 10 gaians who have entered by the end of this week, those who have entered before the end of this week will be the only ones participating. Being exact, it is August 30 of 2009. The week will end at September 5 of 2009.
And so now that everything is settled, I welcome all of you writers and have fun.

i can write about pretty much anything! fantasy, drama (not my favorite), horror, si fi (also not favorite), romance... anything! my favorite would have to be fantasy. but i'm not like most people, i don't write about vapires and werewolves because i'm obsessed with twilight! (i'm so NOT obsessed with twilight) i write mostly in RPs these days, but i'm a serious writer. I've written and illustrated a children's book and have written 2 full books that i one day hope to publish. *sigh* it's a dream of mine. and doing contests like this develope different writing skills! i'm excited! whee

I guess you could call my writing modern fantasy. Horror is my favorite genre, but my world is too full of weird and wonderful things to stick with one thing for too long. Sometimes the stories I write are true, since I've had a pretty strange life so far.

Hello I'm an aspiring writer who realizes that he is number 11 on the list of people wishing to enter your contest. stare I enjoy writing transgressive or dramatic stories that draw the reader into my realm and play with their minds however I wish. My stories are often very deep, contain an ample amount of symbolism, and leave the reader wondering. I'm just putting my name down in case one of the original 10 decide they don't want to or are disqualified for any reason.

Okay! We have our ten contestants! I see that XChaosllamaX also wishes to participate . . . so I guess it wouldn't hurt to add one more right? After all, the more competition, the better! Although, not too much or I'll get confused @-@. Haha well, carrying on, now that we have our contestants, we can finally get this contest going! biggrin

Now, get ready writers! The first round's writing theme is . . . *drumroll* fantasy prologues!
Thats right, the first round is for you, the competing writers, to write a prologue in the fantasy/fiction category. Any fiction is fine. Writers need to have a good prologue is my opinion. So go crazy but remember, its just a prologue. No twists for this one but there is just something I want you to include - a character named Arisu. Easy right?

okay!! i got it! ... i'm done, do i post my Fantasy Prologue here, or to i send it to you..? well, i'll post it here, and if you say otherwise, i'll edit it out of this post... or just delete it. so, without further adu, i give you... MY PROLOGUE!!! 3nodding

PROLOGUE:

He'd been walking along the edge of what was known and unknown for some time, always searching, never resting but today was different. Standing on the outskirts between the last of life and the beginning of death, he watched the two suns set in the southern sky.

He faced to cross the wasteland, a barren desert that had once been abundant with life but now lay dead, with not but the bleached bones and petrified trees to tell tale that there had once, indeed, been life there. He would set up camp for this one night, it couldn't hurt to rest for a while. After all, it had been so long since he'd actually slept through a night.

His ears flickered back as if he had heard something behind him. Narrowing his golden eyes, he looked back towards the forest, his tail swishing apprehensively; he felt as though he were being watched, but he saw nothing.

Arisu set up camp near one of the few remaining trees, scattered out from the dying forest towards the southern wasteland and lay on his back looking up at the stars that lit the sky. He would continue on tomorrow, if there was to be a tomorrow.

Hmm . . . I really like how you put it as "standing on the outskirts between the last of life and the beginning of death." That sentence is amazing ^^ the rest is pretty good too with the setting. I can really see it. But we'll see what happens after all, there's still a bunch of other prologues whee
