FAQ
What's this NaNoWriMo thing?
NaNoWriMo is a race to write 50,000 (or more!) words between 1 November and 30 November at midnight.
You can register on the
official site and join a global community of writers!
What's this thread about?
Just because November is over doesn't mean we can't still hang out with all our writing buddies!
Come in to chat, ask questions, and make friends as we wait for Camp NaNo and next year's NaNo to roll around again!
I've never done NaNo before! Can I still post here?
Of course! The thread's open to anyone and everyone. We love seeing fresh meat new faces around!
How does a Word War work?
Whenever someone calls a war, you'll probably see something like, "War for 15 @:30!" or "War at :30 for 15!" In this example, it means that everyone gets to hunker down for fifteen (15) minutes whenever the minute hits :30 in your time zone and write, write, write! At the end of the time people'll post with the number of words they managed to achieve. Everyone's a winner as long as you make progress!
A war can happen at any time and be called by anyone. Just announce a starting time and total writing time! It can be anywhere from five to twenty minutes or more, but ten or fifteen minutes is fairly standard. It's also a good idea to give everyone a little head's up by calling a war five to ten minutes in advance.
Someone called a RET? What's that?
A RET is what we call Random Excerpt Time! Whenever someone calls one, that means it's time post a random snippet of something you've written! It can be the last scene you wrote, or even from an older project! It could be random, or someone might request something of a theme, like "opening scene of a story" or "terrible weather happens."
As far as RET etiquette goes:
- Spoiler-tag your quotes and check for formatting! Gaia eats indents, so please put a space between each paragraph to keep it from becoming a wall-o'-text!
- Try to keep it under 500 words! Remember, it's an Excerpt, not a whole novel!
- It's courteous to read and comment on everyone's posts! You don't need to go into long paragraphs of critique; a line or two is perfectly fine!
