Al I'm building a cross of air force and star trek. I have windows open for both, but I also want to make it my own. But thanks for the offer of help. Star Trek has so few ranks and Air Force has a lot, plus there is a mandatory draft in my story so the main character has to gain a rank and another character is in the military already.

Zy: Ugh, Air Force... their ranks are the most confusing, imho. Navy makes the most sense in my mind because there's a clear progression, but eh. I have an obvious bias. xp

Star Trek... lots of officer ranks I think? Mostly those stay the same, at least in the US. Perhaps perusing foreign systems might lend you inspiration?
