Aeriments story:
Old Man Aire...

The town was like many others: small, peaceful, quiet. To the point that "city kids" would instantly call it "boring" and move on to the next. There was, however, one place that you might find vaguely interesting: Old Man Aire's house. It had been half a year since he packed his bags and left, "to see the world", as the townspeople quoted him. The next thing they said was usually "he's mad. I always said so" and that was the end of the subject of Old Man Aire.

As a travelling shop-owner (my job is a cross between a gypsy and a trader: I have a caravan, and I travel to different places to sell things) I am always looking for things to sell, so I headed for the house. The townspeople are no liars: the signboard was there.

"Friend, I have left a few valuables in the house. you may come in and take a look, and also the items inside; I only wish you will leave a reasonable price for them. And if you don't, you'll realise you can't get out.

Upon entering I discovered a dozen large stone spheres lying about: each one painted in the same pattern but in different colours. I thought they would make good house ornaments, so I paid for them. Old Man Aire thought them very valuable: I had to leave their weight's worth in gold behind before I could get out.

((Lever mechanism. There was a bar across the door, so if I wanted to lift the bar and get out, I had to leave either all the spheres on one side of the bar or the sphere's weight's worth in gold.))

A week later...

Woke up this morning to find the eggs (yes, that's what they really were) hatched into... critters. I figure I can group them into 3 categories: the ones with wings, the ones with fish tails, and the ones with hooves.

Atan (ex-resident of the town: she decided to tag along) tells me Old Man Aire was an expert enchanter. And I thought he was just some crazy geezer who liked to paint carved spheres.

We've decided to name them after their creator (by "we" I mean everyone. The critters can talk. Smart kids.) Aeriments.

Time passed...

The Aeriments have grown. They look more humanoid now, and they act just like human teens. is that flirting I see? And where did Aerith and Lauca go off to? o.o;

Even more time passed...

They're gone. They left slowly, in pairs or in groups. They've been getting rather restless lately, so I let them leave. They did promise to seek us out again someday (though, as Atan pointed out, since we're always on the move, it's unlikely they'll find us again). Had one last gift to them: their amulets. There are special powers in the amulets, though exactly what they are, only Atan knows (Atan seems to know a lot. She claims she gets all the information from books)

Well, not all of them elft. Rose stayed with me, and Tekka, one of the Autumn sisters, stayed with Atan. But which pair(s) left all those eggs at the back? Neither Rose nor Tekka are telling.

Aeriments is a new race of people... we're going to find guardians for the eggs, so the world will know about them.

A New Land?

I guess it wasn't very long before we found out where the first group of Aeriments who had grown up and left us went: they formed a village on a somewhat deserted island. It's out of the way, too, since the shifting waters make it impossible to reach by boat. Half a day of flying non-stop from the nearest section of mainland is needed to get there, though some Aerimetns have been able to warp there with the use of their amulets. Details on the island are further down the page, including a map.

1. Try to stay original. It's not very nice to copy work.

3. When your coloured Aeriment is sold, you get paid 50% of whatever price it goes for. What remains goes to me and the tagger.
4. Try to be as kind as possible to all pet owners. Think "be kind to animals" if they're really obnoxious.
5. Tell me if you're going on hiatus. Otherwise I worry my hair off.
6. If you are pmed about a commission talk to me before you go through with it.
7. Do not give Aeriments away to friends/family without consulting me first
8. No pet trading without my knowledge
9. PM if there are any problems or questions

FAQ:
Q:How do I get a Aeriment??
A: Please read the 'Getting a Aeriment' post.

Q: Will you give me a Aeriment for free?
A: Slim chance, but maybe. If you socialise and be real nice, or somehow make me feel indebted to you.

Q: When can my Aeriment breed?
A: They must be adults, have a suitable breeding partner and you have to get a breeding spot

Q: How do I get a breeding spot?
A: See post on Breeding.

Q: Will we know the gender of the egg before buying it?
A: Not unless someone decides to tell you, no.

Q: Can I be a colourist?
A: PM me and we'll discuss it. Or you could wait for a colouring contest.

Q: Can I give my Aeriment away?
A: Yes you can, since you're able to buy eggs for other people during flatsale, anyway. Notify me first, I'll need to update the tag.

Auctions:
- Aeriments auctions have a set starting price of 2,000g.
- 24 hours long
- The autobuy, if there is one, will be determined by the colourist.
- I will announce auctions a couple of days or more beforehand.
- Auctions run on separate threads.
- No sniping, you therefore need to post 20 minutes prior to the end of the auction.
- If anyone bids in the last two minutes, then it will go another 2mins and so on.
- No editing your posts in an auction! ... Unless you really have to, like someone hacked into your account and stole all your gold and you can't pay.
- Up to three items may be included in your bid.

Raffles:
- Sometimes we will hold raffles for Aeriments.
- There will be unlimited tickets available.
- Each ticket will cost 100g.
- Will run 24hrs

A wagon/caravan with no horses in front of it is parked somewhere away from the more crowded center of the marketplace. A girl with a headscarf and long greyish blue hair tied up in a ponytail sits in the front. She is staring into a basin of water in her lap, engrossed with its contents. 5 coloured spheres hover in the air next to her, a "For Sale" sign floating above them. As this caravan/wagon is located in the "pets" section of the marketplace, this arouses your curiousity; the round objects look more like art pieces or house ornaments than what you'd usually consider a pet. What are these, pet rocks? And what makes them stay in the air? On top of that, what's so interesting about a basin full of water?

Since it's likely that the girl is the one holding the answer to all your questions, you decide to approach.

RP Guide

The Stages - All Aeriments in general

Egg: Nothing much, besides roll around. In some cases, however, the Aeriment within may develop a telepathic bond with its guardian. No words exchanged, maybe just feelings, and half-developed thoughts. There is no guarantee that this connection will last after the egg hatches.

Child: They can make baby noises and maybe even pick up a few basic words from you. How you treat them or bring them up in this stage heavily affects their characteristics and attitude towards life in general later in life. This is the mimic stage, after all: they'll learn from what you teach them.

Teen: Somewhat more independant and self-sufficient as compared to the child stage, teen Aeriments have more developed thinking. Their questions about the world may be increasingly difficult to answer. Important event during this stage: your Aeriment gains his/her amulet and hence their abilities. Remember the attractive gem in the middle of the egg when you first obtained your Aeriment? Yep, that's the amulet. Hope you had the foresight to keep it. If it was misplaced, perhaps your Aeriment would have to search for it in some way (excellent RP material for a quest).

Adult: Congratulations, your Aeriment is full-grown. They may choose to stick with you, or leave to explore the wide world, or even find a partner. All doors are open to your Aeriment now.


Wind Aeriments

Child: Hatchlings cannot fly, as their wings have yet to develop and strengthen.

Teen: Wingspan has grown to the point that the wings should be strong enough to carry an Aeriment without trouble. The normal period for Aeriments to learn how to fly.

Adult: A full-fledged adult now, the Aeriment should concentrate on building up stamina for long-distance flights.


Water Aeriments

I'd say their breathing is more like frogs. Their enchantment allows them to move in air as they do in water (floating above ground), but they can't go too high or travel far on windy days because their skin will dry out.

Egg: Nothing much, besides roll around. In some cases, however, the Aeriment within may develop a telepathic bond with its guardian. No words exchanged, maybe just feelings, and half-developed thoughts. There is no guarantee that this connection will last after the egg hatches.

Child: Needs to be submerged in water most of the time... but can, for short periods, be taken out of water. You can hear them speak if you stick your head underwater... Like Harry Potter's Mermish. Otherwise what they say just sounds like babble.

Teen: Better suited to both environments, but still prefer to spend time in water. Won't want that skin to dry out. Learn speech out of water.

Adult: Can spend longer periods of time out of water, but will still need a good soaking at least once every two hours.


The Island

See Page100 for Tekka's letter. In short, in order to get to the island, Aeriments will have to activate the magic in their amulets to teleport to the main village.

Aeriments Village

Most of the huts here are made of wood, with the ones closer to the water on stilts. Their arrangement seems random, but all the pathways eventually meet at a large, glowing rock, a wide space cleared around it. Directly across the rock sits a building bigger than the others: a combination of a school and a library.

The attutude of the village is relaxed, though everyone has a role to play in society, be it as teachers or healers or hunters or farmers. Speaking of farmers...


Farmlands

Fertile soil here. Crops grown include wheat and rice and corn; for other vegetables there's a small garden behind almost every house in the village. The spot was also chosen as it's easier to water plants there: large body of fresh water available nearby. The lake is dotted with rowing boats.. it's faster to cut arss the lake from the village to get to the farmlands, so the fishermen take the farms across every morning.


Beaches

Found to the north of the island, there are two of them. to the west is a rocky beach curving upwards to a cliff. Rumour has it that if one flies out to sea, then looks back at the cliff, a face can be seen staring imperiously back. Aside from the face, there's also a rumour that if you find the one sandy portion of the beach, something may be hidden in the sand.

The beach to the east is far more interesting, for those who have journeyed there and back again have spoken of multi-coloured sands, talking seashells and a coral reef. However, in order to get there, one must cross


The Desert

The desert has, thus far, displayed no signs of life; just a thousand illusions to confuse the weary traveller. Shifting sands impersonate solid rock columns... and just as you begin to think that the next column is made of sand and therefore able to walk through... it isn't. A line of sandstorms cut the desert neatly into half, as if it was a barrier trying to block off the beach beyond. If you gaze into the desert by night from the village, you can see a palace (or at least the image of one) with towers spiralling up into the sky standing tall in the desert.


Mysterious Lake + Distant Village

Some of the eggs from the very first batch did not hatch until they were brought here. And when they did, the children had fins and tails like fish. Rock formations resembling buildings have been sighted at the bottom of the lake, along with much marine life.

As for the village, its residents comprise of more Water Aeriments than Wind Aeriments. All of them have one common trait, however; they specialise in crafting goods which they trade for food with the larger village to the north. Pots, Jewellery, Furniture... you name it, they've made it.


Mountain of Magic

It was at the peak of this mountain that the second glowing rock was found, completely by accident; whoever discovered it was said to have been distracted while attempting to return to the village by teleporting. The mountain belies an insane structure of stone mazes said to be filled with treasure and monsters. By night the sky above the mountain flashes many colours.


Enchanted Forest

Strange but not unfriendly, the forest is deep. As long as you're walking forwards, you wil be walking deeper into the forest, even if you turn 180 degrees round and try to retrace your steps. The only way out is to go backwards... or at least the only way discovered so far. There's no way to fly over the forest: there appears to be some sort of barrier once above the trees.

The Archive of Missing Aeriments says that someone ventured into the forest with four unhatched eggs from he first batch and has, to date, not returned.


Forbidden Land

Barren, foggy, and somehohw never touched by sunlight, this section of the island has a distinct chill about it. All who have returned speak of strange, shadowy, hostile beings and a murmur of constant sinister whispering following them, halting only after they had finally found their way out of the fog.
Note: Your Aeriment qualifies to grow one stage for every 35 RP points you rack up. An exception is the hatching stage. Eggs will hatch about 3 days after you purchase it in a flatsale, regardless of whether or not we've updated your tag, consider it hatched after 3 days. Whether your Aeriment grows immediately or not after you make 35 points will be up to the work rate of the tagger and the colourist. Note that one post does not necessarily equal one point, it can count as 3 or even more. I guess you have the option of quantity or quality to help your Aeriment grow. It helps if you happen to hang around the thread and socialize, too.

One- or two-sentence posts will not be counted, or at best grouped together to be counted as one post. For adult Aeriments, I will automatically count the post made as 1 point. I'm more lenient with the growing stages.

Staff profiles

Age: Unknown, but several hundred years
Race: Dragon, subspecies Ice
Appearance:
Human - Almost six feet tall, with long, hip length white-blue hair when she first transformed. She has dark gray eyes, and pale, almost translucent looking skin. Her fingernails are black, hard and shiny, and her canines are slighly longer than normal, though not fangs. Her ears are pointed like an elves. In recent years, her hair has darkened because she has remained in human form for so long, and she keeps it cut shorter for easier care.
Anthro - Humanoid, but depending on where she stopped the transformation, she can have merely scales instead of skin, a muzzle, tail or wings, or all of the above. If fully anthro, she has white scales, with a pale, whiteblue wing and frill membranes and belly scales. Her claws and spines are black, as well as her eyes, which are still human in shape, and still have whites. She also gains about a half-foot to a foot in height.
Draconic - In full dragon form, she's about 15 feet long from nose to tail tip, and her coloration matches that of her anthro form. She has a frill on her head, which continues down to the end of her tail, and her eyes are fully black, and look like obsidian. Her ears are finned and pointed, and her tail ends with a hooked spade.
Personality: She is kind, but cautious, and doesn't like to give out too much information all at once, preferring to give it out in small portions and observe the reactions of those who hear it. Anything other than knowledge though, she will give freely, sharing her last crust with someone if they need it. In recent years, she's become more domesticated, and has found less and less use for her draconic form the longer she lives among humans. She also travels less, preferring to stay in her hillside home.
History: Rime is scholar at heart, though she is a very capable fighter as well. She doesn't hoard gold, as most people assume dragons do, but she does have a hoard of sorts... she has an enormous library hidden away in a cave system in the mountains, magically protected against vermin, moisture, light and other things harmful to documents.
She finds humans and their lifestyles fascinating, what with their short lifespans, and so, she decided to try to live amongst them. Now, most dragons in her clan have a humanoid form, for simple eease of use of things like books and the like. But Rime took it one step further, and perfected her human form until it looked simply like another one of the variants that happen in the everchanging human race, perhaps almost albino.
Her cousin, Intagli, also chose to live amongst the humans, partially for the entertainment value they provide, and also to be able to visit his favorite cousin. Rime bears this with a certain amount of resignation, because while she loves him, he is a very trying individual to her. She is an ice dragon, and he is a fire dragon, and a very tactile person. When he is around, which is only occasionally, as he loves to travel, she is often seen to have a slight sunburn looking burn over most of her body.
She gradually moved closer and closer to human cities as the years progressed, and about 50 years ago she made her home in this hillside outside of a small human town, though she still traveled about. The people of the town know she is a dragon, and so treat her warily, but are not unfriendly.

Name: Anakora de Terinoq, aka Dragonz
Age: Just over 2 centuries, or 20-ish
Race: Half Human, Half Dragon
Appearance: Pale blue skin with dark blue tattoos on cheek, shoulder and stomach. Blue eyes and hair, aqua jewel on forehead. Appearance varies according to whim. Most often with skin wings, clawed feet, and barbed tail.
Her character: Dragonz has not yet been seen in the rp. She has only a loose bond with her aeriment, and is often buisy with other things. She is friendly, artistic, noble, and playful.
History: Dragonz was born from the union of the dragon queen, Terinoq, and her human consort, a mage. She left home in late teens and traveled much of the world before settling down in a two-story cottage outside of Barton Town. Her history is long and complicated, but she keeps an eye on her Aeriment and takes care of whatever needs Aramina will let her.
OOC: Dragonz likes to play around with the Aeriment lineart and occasionally colors things for flatsale, auction, or raffle. She edited the lineart to create the Waters, and is currently working on the linearts of the elements of Earth and Fire. She also created the items and is looking for ideas for more.


Name: Gelidus Era
Age: Unknown (15-17?)
Race: White Mage
Appearance: Hair in various shades of dark brown and black, blue-eyed with pale skin. Has a tendency to dress in white. Slenderly built.
Her character: She has a tendency to disappear for long periods of time due to mysterious missions which she receives from the commander of her squad via the bunnies on her hair. She is more hyper than most people and has a child-like desposition, which makes her seem like a harmless innocent child. However, she quickly sheds her happy mannerisms for a ruthless one when in need to keep herself, or anyone else, out of trouble.
History: Her adoptive parents were killed in an attack on her tribe of alchemists. Due to this incident, she was found by her master who was on a herb-picking trip, and was brought to the academy where she learnt the art of healing. It was there where she met Atanaqui on a mission.
For some unknown reason, she does not have any memory of her past before she was found by her adoptive parents, so her purpose of joining the knights was basically so that she could find out about her past and find out the reason why she has not changed in appearance for years.
