[Image Map FAQ]
- What's an image map?
:: An image map is a single picture on the web which links you to different places depending on where you click on it. A script gets the coordinates of where you clicked on the image and directs your internet browser accordingly.
What do I need to run an image map?
:: You need a place to host your image and a PHP server.
What's a PHP server and how do I get one?
:: A PHP server is a web server that also runs PHP scripts. You need a web space account that can run PHP files too. If you don't have your own Aubray1741works can provide you with hosting for you script. Please be aware that this drains my bandwidth, so I'll charge a monthly fee. See "Hosting Solutions" below.
Can image maps have animations?
:: Yes. I can make these too, but they will cost extra.
Can you rotate or randomize an image map, like my other pics?
:: Short answer: No.
:: Long answer: Yes, but it requires the use of another PHP script, and Aubray1741works does not offer these. Plus, your server might have issues with the coordinates on image maps.
Can't you have an image map with random parts and other stuff like showing people what song I'm listening too or a little bulletin board?
:: Yes, but these require extra scripting and Aubray1741works does not currently offer modular image maps. Maybe in the future it will, however.
I already have an image that I want to be turned into an image map. Can you just make the script for me?
:: Yes. PM me about it.
What's the point of having an image map?
:: Image maps are useful for saving space in your signature limits, let you have dozens of links in your sig, look cool, and help you avoid having a signature that's too big.

A sharp, clean webpage sends a message about yourself, and your intellect. On Gaia Online, I offer static webpage design services. Static means the pages doesn't have any dynamic code (ie. PHP, ColdFusion, ASP, or Java Applets). However, simple Java code, like rollover, popups, scrolling text, and a few other codes, I can easily write for your site.
I am prepared to start from scratch, with guides you specify, and create an entire website, graphics included. However, if you have already have a running site, templates, or graphics, it would speed up my job greatly if I was just improving a site, or working off a template.
I use Macromedia Dreamweaver to write pages, therefore, I don't write them by hand on a text editor. So I guarantee that your site's code will be free from errors or sloppiness left by hand coding. I attempt to make a site viewable by the main internet browsers, like Firefox, IE, and Netscape, however, I cannot guarantee all browser support.
Site building is a one on one process. I will need information I can use to contact you whenever I need your approval for a design, and to send you previews. An IM address would be nice.
If you have your own web server, I will prepare the pages and then transfer them to you, either through e-mail, IM, or a download from my site. It is your job to make sure the pages are uploaded.
If you don't have a server, I would be glad to start a free one for you at 741.com or 1000webspace.com, load the pages myself, and then give you the password to the server.
I will not maintain your pages for you unless you wish to pay me on a month to month basis to do so. All updates, maintenance, and changes to the site are your responsibility.
