Hello and welcome to my contest! This will be a long one so that enough people have the time to draw and enter. The end time is specific to the season, so those who want to buy Christmas presents for friends, this is a good way to get those funds ahead of time (: I accept all styles and mediums. This includes realism, anime, cartoon/comic style, CG, watercolor, color pencils, inks, sketches and much more. See below for more details and good luck!


edit 12/10/2006: If you are not finished by the deadline but would still like to enter your art, please submit it as a work in progress (WIP). WIPs will not be eligible for the grand prizes, but they will be eligible for their own prize and the lesser categories.

WIP grand prize is 50k.


Important: This is regarding the NM Scarf grand prize.

I am not going to remove the category. I am just going to change it to couple/group so that everyone who drew 2 or more OCs together can be considered for the top prize. I think that's more than fair, right? :3

May I submit more than one entry?

-Yes, by all means do! If you have an idea for more than one category, why throw it out? You will be eligible for more than one prize. (:


I cant draw, but may I bump?

-That's a silly question. Yes, please do. I would appreciate it greatly.


May I do a collab with a friend and enter it?

-Yes, as long as the person entering the submission puts both names on the submission form.


Is this contest 'anime only'?

-No. I love realism and comic style to death as well :3 <33

OC Categories

Best Overall OC Couple/Group (Prize: NM Scarf)
- This is the top prize in the contest. I want to see what kind of interactions you can come up with using my three OCs. You can either do Laine/Andy or Laine/Angel of Death or all three together. You may -not- do AoD/Andy.

Best Overall OC (Prize: Nitemare Headband)
- This category will cover the best picture drawn of any 3 of my OC characters. I like to see original works and concepts, so brownie points for you if you can create such works. I look for details, design, and overall appeal.

Best Laine (OC) (Prize: 200k)
- Obviously, this category is for the best Laine picture. I want to see if you can encompass what Laine is about, including her small details, style, and personality

Best Angel of Death (OC) (Prize: 200k)
- Basically the same as the category above. (:

Best Costume Design (Prize: Angelic Headband)

Laine (OC #1)

Name: Laine Soma

Ethnicity/Race: Asian American
Height: 5' 7''
Body: 34c cup breasts, thin, yet curvy
Eye color: Dark Brown

Special: engagement ring, fashion sense, singing.


Mini-BG-- Laine, at age 15, witnessed the shooting/mugging of her mother while outside of the downtown bank. When her mother fell to the ground, she saw a dark haired woman with a large "knife-looking thing" pull her mother's soul out of her body. The Angel of Death, as the dark-haired woman is referred to as, met eyes with the young Laine and was amazed that she was able to see her. Knowing that the girl could compromise her duties, she was forced to fuse with the girl's soul, thusly causing her to "black out" at impromptu moments.

Personality-- She is a markswoman. (good with guns) She has sad eyes. She has an original and trendy sense of style and is sassy and opinionated. She is a talented singer. Though she has her talents, Laine fakes happiness a lot of the time. She lives alone, but with her cat. The black holes in her memory are connected to the death of her mother (see BG above). She researches her own past and the cause of her blackouts in her spare time. She finds it very hard to trust or get close to anyone.

Laine's connection to Andy-- Andy, also known as Laine's mystery dream man, is Laine's fiance. They met each other when she was 17 and he was 18, fell in love quickly, were engaged 2 years later, and were as quickly torn apart. The Angel of Death is to blame for their separation. Her jealousy at Laine's ability to have real happiness made her erase Laine's memory of Andy. The process was sloppy, though. As a result of being part infused with the AoD, Laine still has remnant memories of Andy through her dreams. Andy, however, has not forgotten Laine.

Extra Details-- likes the colors pink, blue, black, white, and red. Her style must be original and trendy. She wears a diamond engagement ring on her left hand. She always carries her gun. Re-stating that she has long black hair, dark brown eyes.

Laine's Story Excerpt:

She stumbled through the dark hall of her NY apartment, sweating. "What's wrong with me??" she wondered, frantically. Her eyes struggled to focus as she tripped on a newly bought rug and fell through the door to her bedroom. "Why is this happening to me?!" was the last thing her brain screamed before she collapsed on the floor.

"Laine...Laine...wake up!" a male voice invaded her sound sleep. "huh..?" She mumbled as she blinked her eyes open. "No sleeping in today! I have something special planned!" the man said excitedly. Laine sat up slowly as he walked out of the room and into a bathroom. "This isnt my apartment.." she said to herself, quietly. "..but that's my cat and those are my things by the door.." As if on cue, the cat jumped on the bed. Laine sat for a moment petting the cat before the man peeked his head through the bedroom door. "C'mon, get dressed! We've got to get moving!" he said, grinning, before receeding his head back through the crack of the door. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and pushed off gently onto the floor, confused. Not only did she not recognize where she was at, she had no idea who the man rushing her was! She walked slowly to the closet that was adjacent to the bed and grasped the handles. "There is something seriously wrong here.." she thought aloud as she pulled the doors to the closet open and was immediately engulfed in darkness.

Laine awoke again, this time in her own apartment, to the meows of her cat, Sam. She bolted up off of the hard floor and glanced around at the familiarity of her bedroom at night. Her eyes settled on the glowing clock on the nightstand. "12am already?" She held the corner of her nearby dresser and used it to help her stand. "Laine...Laine..wake up!" Her mind replayed the sound of the voice of the unknown man. "Was I dreaming again?" she wondered. "Why do I keep dreaming about people and places I dont know?!" she screamed. Sam titled his head and meowed at Laine's startling outcry. She realized that she had lost 3 hours this time. Now she had worsening symptoms.. heaving sweating, dizziness, nausea... It was seeming as if this dream life of hers was starting to overtake her waking life. Not that she wanted to remember much of the past 5 years of her life, anyhow.

Angel of Death (OC #2)


Name: Angel of Death, Yuzuriha Kamikaze
Age: 2000
Ethnicity/Race: Asian
Height: 5' 9''
Body: 34c cup breasts, thin, yet curvy
Eye color: Gray
Hair color: Black
Hair length: Long
Skin tone: a tad lighter than tan
Special: carries scythe, has full black wings.


Personality-- Her chains symbolize her involuntary tie to the death of others. While she is "stuck" as the AoD, she does have control over who lives and dies. You could say she acts like a messenger. She has a complex mind. Unlike other immortals she comes into contact with, she is full of emotion, especially that of jealousy.

Extra Details-- She has chains, a scythe, and black feathered wings. She's most often wearing a dress with gloves (because it's her favorite type of outfit) but she's not wearing a dress all the time. She likes the colors red, black, purple, and gray/silver. Re-stating that she has long black hair, gray eyes.

Angel of Death's Story Excerpt:

She sat atop the roof of a swanky uptown apartment, waiting for her target to arrive. The woman of interest worked like clockwork. She was up by 8am, at work by 9, and was home by 11pm. The Angel of Death, otherwise known as Yuzuriha Kamikaze (Yuzi for short), was growing impatient. It seemed like her lady was running late tonight. "How odd..." she grumbled to herself. She glanced over and down to her right and saw that the man she was also expecting was on time. He looked nervous, yet Yuzi knew he was consumed with rage. The clockwork woman had recently been seen with a male coworker of hers at a posh hotel, and it didnt look like they were there on business. The Death Angel had lost count how many times she carried off the soul of a woman who was slayed by a jealous husband or boyfriend. Finally, the woman was spotted walking down the sidewalk and up the stairs to her residence. "It's about time.." muttered Yuzi. "Ive got better things to do tonight."

When the woman was settled in her apartment, the man slinked up the stairs and rung the bell. His visit was expected, so he brought her a single red rose to throw her guard off. She opened the door and invited the man in, her eyes smiling at the sight of the rose. Little did she know he had an ulterior motive. Yuzi stood up and stepped onto the ledge on the apartment, awaiting her cue. She took a deep breath and looked at the moon. "What am I going to do about that girl, Laine? I cant keep invading her life like this, its eating up my energy." Suddenly, she heard the clockwork woman scream and hit the floor. There was a bit of shuffling before the man ran out of the door and into the darkness. Neighboring apartment lights flickered on. "Okay, go time." cheered the Angel of Death. She sunk through the roof floor and into the woman's bedroom. "Oh, how cute.." she said, half frowning. The woman was laid on the floor with her arms to her sides, her head tilted to the right, and the rose, that beautiful crimson rose, laid across the draining, gaping hole in her chest. Yuzi bent down and picked the blood-soaked rose up. "What a waste of a gorgeous flower." She tucked it behind her ear and the blood streamed down the length of her long, raven locks. "It's time to come with me now, Ms. Clockwork." uttered Ms. Death into the darkness. She hoisted her ornately decorated scythe into the air and gently swept it through the woman's body. It passed through her being without so much as a scratch. As the scythe exited the body, a glow of blue light rose with the blade. Yuzi returned the utensil to her side and moved toward the blue light, beckoning it to follow her. "It's okay Ms. Clockwork, you're going to be going to heaven despite your infidelity." The glowing light moved with Ms. Death as they both melted into the air.

Personality-- He is fun-loving and hardworking. He cares much for his loved ones and values their opinions. He can be stubborn at times. He smokes. He's known Laine since they were both in high school. Andy proposed to Laine when she was 19. Laine has her memory erased of him by the Angel of Death. He works towards getting her back.

Extra Details: Likes the colors dark blue, black, and dark gray. Loves printed (words and single pictures) (NOT PATTERNED) t-shirts. Emphasizing that he has a mustache, a goatee, and short hair. Remember, he is a heavy man (260lbs) but not overly round or huge. He is a welder. He smokes.
