Personality» Doreen is outgoing and bubbly, infamous as Squirrel Girl, ever eager adventurer, it would be hard to convince even the most proficient of psychics that Doreen locks away a sadness under her exterior of never belonging.
Dreaming of becoming a famed hero like her own idols, she's fought countless battles, felled foes that even she can hardly believe she escaped by the skin of her teeth and yet every time she finds herself the joke of the Hero Community.
She hides the longing away and reminds herself always to put forward a smile.
Biography» Doreen grew up with a single parent home in LA with her mother Maureen. From an early age it was clear Doreen was just plain different, but despite it all her mother pushed her to be the best girl she could be.
It quickly became much more difficult to do that when Doreen hit puberty and her tail began growing. Even more so when the kids at her school decided on 'Rodent' as their favorite insult for her. It was no surprise Doreen spent much of her time alone from the other kids, an established tomboy, climbing trees had never been a problem even before she'd gained her claws or new sense of balance.
But it was one chance encounter, a single squirrel that came nervously upon her in the branches, as Doreen would dump her troubles there upon the squirrel, when all was said and done that it happened.
"Life's a tough nut to crack, kid." spoke the squirrel to her. And from there Doreen knew she had found her place. She played hookie from school, running to the woods and spending more and more time talking with the squirrels, learning as she watched them move, following their instruction.
And refining her methods, working on her own costume, she settled upon her idea one night as she watched the news. She would become an Avenger. With a last letter goodbye she began her journey across the country until finally she hit New York with that simple mission in mind to make her name and make her claim.
One encounter with Iron Man later... And she was no further to her goal.
She might have saved him from Doctor Doom, but she certainly hadn't been granted an Avengers Keycard either. Soon formed the Great Lakes Avengers, a group of fellow underdogs and for a time she was happy, yet, as she watched the group, she suddenly realised she was the only reason that they were a success. The other members of the group had come to lean on her and in fact were just happy to lie in the shadow she was casting over them.
Mind set once more, Squirrel Girl packed her bags and left once more.
Her travels weren't without incident, and her life not without some strange encounters such as her relationship with Speedball that went from Crush to heartbreak as he would self harm and transform himself into Penance. And later still an encounter with Wolverine that the two no longer speak of and in fact had agreed to not see one another thereafter.
Then finally came her most decisive act. In an effort to try and introduce herself to a more mainstream group of heroes she hired herself as a nanny to Luke Cage. But as time grew she found she no longer cared about becoming accepted by the team, but more and more bonded to her charge. Doreen had discovered she really did care for kids and wanted to protect that innocence.
In the time she's spent as nanny to Luke Cage's daughter she's came to learn about her own maternal instincts and really believes in helping a child grow is no greater reward than itself.
Now she finds herself conflicted, which is worth more to her? Becoming a hero herself? Or helping kids grow to become heroes instead?
Now out of job, and struggling with her own education, Doreen comes to Xavier's Mansion in hope she can find herself a new position whilst she prepares herself to return to the College course she dropped out of.
She just hopes they'll take her.
