 ██ ██ ˟ 【 THE LAZY KENDO DEVIL.

Sasaki Chihiro started her morning as she did any other: staring at the ceiling as she had a raring mental debate on whether or not she was inclined to roll out of bed. The fact that it was the first day of school meant nothing if it didn't suit her mood. However, as she stretched out sleepily underneath her sheets, she knew that the light slipping passed her blinds wouldn't allow her to achieve the quality of rest that she wanted, so she begrudgingly sat up. Making a mental note to opt for darker curtains at some point in the next week, she swung her legs off the bed just as her mother's less-than-angelic voice pierced the air. "Chi~! It's time to get ready for the first day of school, get up!" The young girl rubbed her eyes and huffed lightly, knowing it was just a matter of seconds before her mother rushed into her room as though the birds were chirping melodies and the sun shone down a toothy smile. "Today's the day, Ch—Oh! You're already up? Look at you, you must be so excited!" She grinned and took in her child's deadpan expression with a nod, her observation clearly affirmed.

"Yes, I'm up... Good morning. What's for breakfast?"

There was a momentary pause since Chi knew that her mother was no great cook, but she must have made something, given the amount of commotion she was causing.

"A-Ah, breakfast, well—" With that, Chi knew that she had either forgotten or burnt everything in sight, so she raised a hand to interrupt and stood. "It's fine. I'll get something on the way." It was always this way, no matter what the subject. There was no sense in getting upset over what had become their routine. Her expectations had adapted over the years and she walked over to her expansive closet that was meant to be one of the many placeholders for broken promises. "So, how are you thinking of starting off this new year? The classy and chic Chi or the mysterious and unattainable kendo commander?" Her mother hummed, clasping her hands together as her emerald eyes glinted at the puzzle before her. "How about as just a standard high school student?" Chi wasn't feeling particularly indulgent this morning nor did she want to make any waves. Impressions often led to pleasantries, which led to people assuming a readiness to do favors. She would stick to her neutrality unless she needed something, then the rarity of her pleasantries would be enough of an exchange for any favor she inquired about.

Giving a small whine of disapproval, her mother raised her hands in defeat before leaving the room to allow her to change into a "scholarly" outfit that deviated just enough from a regular uniform that she didn't appear overly stiff. Chi adjusted the ribbon at her neck and smoothed her bangs over her forehead as the final determinant of her readiness. Grabbing her preprepared backpack, she pulled her phone from her charger and headed out. "Have a good day!" Her mother's voice echoed as she sprinted out the front door after a brief hug. Though she could have taken a car or been driven to school, she preferred to head over to Suteki Station to enjoy a few moments of peace.

On the way, there were enough street vendors that she got herself a decent breakfast by her own standards. "Already eating sweets this early in the morning, Chi-chan?" One of the local grannies with a particular knack for judgement called out to her. You know it, you old hag. Her thoughts tended to take on a harsher tone than the perpetually decent smile on her face. Taking a larger bite of the treat she held between her fingers, she waved with her free hand and walked along, early as usual with her arrival to her platform.

Closing her eyes as the breeze flowed through her hair once she took a seat, she started to consider that it might have been better for her to have skipped the first day. The repetitive nature of introductions drove her crazy. Maybe it would have benefited her more if she would have made a presence for herself within her small community earlier, but she didn't care for such familiarity either. Yochikuni was comfortable and sometimes people became too comfortable.

She took solace in the fact that there would be at least a couple faces that wouldn't be badgering her for her name, interests, and email address or phone number.

Maybe I'll take a trip to the mall to reward myself for being a good student after school, She thought to herself, though she would likely pull in extra hours within the dojo. The Kendo Club had become her esteemed kingdom and she had no intention of losing her throne. Her discipline and force on the mats was unrivaled. She was a dangerous force to be reckoned with until she left the room and her personality melted into dreariness once more.

Well, perhaps not dreariness, but she was far more disinterested without a shinai in her hand. She appreciated both aspects of her life nonetheless since her usual routine gave her enough of a breather to compensate how hard she pushed herself for her title. Her ascent to the captain's position had been an easy one. She trained and perfected her technique to get what she wanted, only to intensify her personal regime to pursue the power that it gave her. Her ultimate goal was to reach a level of authority that would leave others unable to deny whatever impulse moved her. For the time being, her desires didn't range all that far from the occasional material possession since her family's status provided more than she could ever need. But, if she ever did choose to aim higher, she wanted to be ready and not continue to hang onto her father's coattails. That thought continued until she heard the not-so-distant rumble of train tracks. Finishing her breakfast, she watched the train rush into position and crumpled her wrapper to toss it into a nearby recycling bin. As usual, the train cars were mostly empty.

Shuffling inside, she tossed her bag into the seat beside the one nearest to the doors and crossed her legs at her ankles. At this time, if there were ever any passengers that joined her, they were often sleepy or preoccupied. It was always a quiet ride. However, she couldn't seem to enjoy it as much as she usually did. She felt plumes of anxiety rise within her and tickle the back of her mind. It was a new year with brand new sets of eyes to judge her.

All too often, people assumed that she was either shy or snobby. She was just unmotivated unless some force coerced her. It was as if she was looking for something to give her purpose while simultaneously being satisfied with her life as it was. She had never been dependent on the concept of making friends and her dry, blunt responses, when she didn't have to provide white lies to get her way, could put her at odds with the student body. Maybe she wasn't an outcast, but she was a drifter. Something of a ghost. Even so, she didn't think that reinventing herself was in her best interest. She had tried the sociable approach and it could be exhausting. Just the same, being absolutely solitary left her without connections and was a bit too lonely. She dealt with that enough at home.

Truthfully, she didn't know what category she belonged in, but being true to herself was easiest and hadn't put her into too much trouble yet. If someone didn't accept her faults, they could just disappear from her life as most did. Arriving at Gokushi, she considered it would be a simple feat to disappear in the bustling city. In that aspect, the suburban Yochikuni provided her the comfort of always knowing her bearings, especially since she was rather hopeless without a GPS otherwise. The only route she had memorized was a direct shot to the school. Pulling her backpack back on, she bowed politely to the other passengers that had rode with her and went on her way. Today was the day. She reasoned that as long as she was attentive the first day, she could breeze through the first week with minimal interaction.

                                        ***
Well, that had been the plan anyway. Before she had even registered it, she was staring blankly at the class lists with her lips slightly parted. Did I pass out?! ...Are we done with the introduction ceremony already? How did I get here? Blinking a few times to wake herself up, she glanced around and made sure she hadn't been drooling.

She could see that she was in Class 2-B, but she hadn't been paying enough attention to what teacher belonged to which homeroom. At the very least, she recognized a familiar name among her classmates and breathed a sigh of relief. Ah, well. She'd figure herself out once all these pleasantries were out of the way. "Hey! Good to see you again!" Already, students had begun to make their reunions, some more tearful and loud than others. Should I...just sneak into the dojo? ...What if someone follows me or notices?

Shifting on her feet, she moved to a corner of the auditorium as people started to file out and group up. She'd probably wait until the hallways became less congested for her to make her way to class. Her heart fluttered in her chest and she felt frustrated for even being slightly overwhelmed at the beginning of a new school year. She would just continue to do as she always did. Coexist. Still, seeing so many unfamiliar faces, a wide range of possibilities flitted like pages of an open book on a windy day in her mind. Most of the students, she would never truly meet. Some of them, she would interact with and either be indifferent or feel negatively toward. An even smaller percentage, she might actually like and seek discussion beyond badinage. Would she make more friends this year? Her doubts kept her cautious and skeptical. There was no reason to believe that this year would be any different. With a shake of her head, she sighed at how sentimental she got in the presence of a crowd. She had no idea why her thoughts ran away from her when she saw groups of friends grinning carelessly, but she was certain she was happier sticking to herself.

People were meant to be used, herself included. She would reach out for her own gain and keep drama to a minimum by not getting overly involved. Really, she was overthinking it. She would just do as she pleased and not stand for obstacles. As long as her fellow students didn't become obstacles, she could smile at them all they wanted and add to the illusion that they were all friends. If anything, the relationships she would cultivate would be healthier that most. An even give and take. Finding her resolve once more, she smoothed out her skirt and started to walk out toward her homeroom. She pulled out her phone as she did and sent her mother a quick text message since she was renewed with energy that would likely hold her over enough to do some exploring later. Though her absence may not have even been noticed, her expression of intent in regards to staying out late could save her from some form of an empty lecture later.

                                personality.
To most, Gain can be considered the ideal friend and leader. She is decisive and bold in the field while considerate and warm toward those she values. To herself, she is weak. She is small and needs to work on every aspect of herself in order to be worthy of being a student of the academy. Everything that she has achieved over the years, she had worked for independently and holds no intention of breaking the habit. There would be no shortcuts for her. The easy way was not her path to take, despite how much it always seemed to attempt to beckon her.

Just the same, she is nowhere near as harsh on others as she is on herself. She tends to take a reassuring and encouraging approach when others stumble and only kicks herself when she's down. She doesn't believe in personal excuses, but will be more understanding to those of her friends. A surefire way of pissing her off would be to target those friends. Her loyalty and protective nature is unmatched. For her to develop that fierce sense of fidelity to someone, they must first pass the test of time (though helping her get through a bout of self-destruction would help).

When she's not doing some form of physical training or buried in a book, she tries to learn about the world around her through observation. She is analytical and whimsically curious about the entire universe along with all the cultures it holds within it. Often, she will at least partially learn a different tongue to make comrades feel at home and express her interest in their backgrounds. She will become embarrassed over mispronunciations, but she tends to be laid back in regards to pretty much everything outside of serious assignments.

Her demeanor could be interpreted as either youthful or permanent b***h face with no in between, her eyes are especially intense when she's focusing on something. Even so, her sense of humor is rather quirky, so it's easy to make her break out into laughs with even just a look. The only time the jokes wouldn't work would be in the mornings. If she must wake up any time before noon, her aura could be mistaken as something other than human. Point is, if you got bad news, save it for the pm. The only things accepted in the am are blankets, warm milk, and maybe snuggles. Otherwise, she prides herself on being relaxed and easygoing more often than not.

Nonetheless, if she has something to say, she'll say it and will take confrontation like a professional. The only things that'll blast her out of her element are tiny bugs that get all up in your business and heights. She's working on getting over those though since her head is always in the stars and her eyes are always set on different planets. A dream of hers is to make her home in a place that drastically varies from what she's used to, but she wants to reach her peak condition before she allows herself to settle down. Judging by her personal standards, that might take a while.

                                biography.
Gain - to obtain or secure; Mezi - balance

Born and raised on Neo Eden, the academy hadn't always been in her feasible future. Her parents wanted her to grow into the life of a homemaker and marry some type of space prince (bonus points if he would relocate to their neighborhood). However, the many restrictions they placed on the young child only made her rebel and turned her into something absolutely wild. When plates would break underneath her fingertips as she tried to wash them and her dresses would be practically shredded accidentally by the time she got home, she knew the life they envisioned was not the one for her. No matter how much they tried to keep her in their exclusive society since they were well-off on their own, she always made attempts to interact with those that weren't terran. She would keep tales of distant worlds in a notebook and worked to add a new story at least once a day. This would provoke the neighborhood terrans to pick on her to which she responded through fist fights. Her style was a savage one and she often bloodied those larger than her with as much damage as she received.

On the occasions that she would lose, she would only swear that she would get stronger. She was incessant to the point that her parents sought counsel when they started to consider locking her in the house like a modern-day Rapunzel. Well, the idea would have appealed to them more if she hadn't chopped off most of her hair. It was suggested that she would simmer down with some more freedoms and she was granted a library. With each book that she read, a bruise seemed to disappear from her complexion and she stayed within her home more. Though she had always been polite and proper toward them, her parents were immensely satisfied that their only child seemed to have found the outward domestication that she had been lacking. Unbeknownst to them, she worked just as much in the real world as she did in the house. When she gained a suitable amount of her own funds, she expressed her arrangements to leave and attend NEMI. It was an outrage taken as a betrayal, a trick really since they hadn't thought those fairytales would develop her mind into an independent one.

"If you go, you'll die! You'll be an animal among animals, but you'll be the weakest link. Standard combat? You're too frail. You don't stand a chance and you'll dishonor us at that! Linguistics? What do you care about those creatures?! You'll have everything and more here once we find you a suitable husband! Just do as you're told!" Their harsh words hit her where it hurt and she hasn't turned back from the moment she left. Why they were so conservative when they lived on such a diverse planet was beyond her. From that point on, she focused intensively on compensating for her smaller stature with sheer strength and agility. As a result, her defense is poor, but she can definitely take a hit in a hand-to-hand match. She really is small though, so the quickest way of claiming victory would be to pick her up and throw her somewhere. Give it a shot at your own risk!

Ultimately, despite being highly intelligent, analytical, and independent, she is intensely critical of herself and has a wild side stemming from how torn her family's values keep her when compared to her own. As a lonely soul, she occasionally wonders if she made the right choice in following her own path at the expense of her relationship with her parents. While there were many bad times, she fondly recalls the lively dinners, the fun sorts of dress up when her mother was particularly indulgent, and the stories given during sleepless nights. Whether or not she'll ever return to them once she becomes a commander in her own right is up in the air, but every time someone calls her name, reminding her that she was created purely to gain and never to give, the chance seems less likely and she swallows her personal disdain dryly.

EXOSUIT model. Gain's exosuit is lightweight and fits tightly to support her swift movements. Built with thrusters at the ankles and wrists, she maneuvers herself as if she lacks gravity and pinpoints weak spots with her visor that internally displays her stats. Being as thin as it is, it doesn't help her defense as much as it should and leaves her susceptible to high damage. However, it can deflect standard projectiles as it keeps her in consistent communication with her team and aware of herself/surroundings while supporting her offensive weapons.

weapon of choice. heavy-duty gloves and twin swords. Gain feels the most comfortable with her gloves as they allow her to become a reincarnation of one punch man and her exosuit has registered them as an extension of herself. Her swords hold a special, secret meaning to her and are a last resort if she is surrounded by many enemies since they widen her range if she chooses to throw one, only to bring it back with a magnetization that she's added to her gloves. However, if she pulls them out during a one-on-one, she is no longer willing to let the person escape with his or her life.

 ██ ██ ˟ 【 THE LAZY KENDO DEVIL.

Having felt that she had waited appropriately and made enough of a gesture before speaking up to make her presence known as she approached, Chi couldn't help raising her eyebrow and the twitch that moved the edge of her lips slightly when he screamed. "Y-Yori-san...you really shouldn't scream when a girl speaks up," She mentioned tensely, nodding to excuse his momentary departure and glancing at Ren apologetically before allowing her eyes to follow his path. Whenever she forgot how much of an...eccentric character he was, it seemed that she would receive a blatant reminder in one way or another. Admittedly, his shenanigans were a refreshing change of pace and often kept things interesting, but he just wasn't her type, if that was the right way to phrase it. Maybe a better way would be to say that they were cut from different cloth within the same small town. She didn't know much about such things, so she let the thoughts pass her as she watched him attempt to open the door.

Flinching somewhat at the loud bang that seemed to reverberate within the hallway, she rummaged through her bag for a few moments and muttered to herself. "Honestly..." She was torn between maintaining a calm, polite demeanor in front of a relative stranger and just slapping her forehead with the same amount of force that he had used. Softening her expression at his monologue that really should have been internal, she tried again, "H-Honestly, Yori-san, you should try to be more careful... Here, it's alright, we'll make it in time next time..." Stepping closer to him, she reached up and carefully placed a cold patch onto the redness of his forehead. Unbeknownst to most people, she could actually be rather clumsy, so she tended to stay prepared.

Clearing her throat and stepping back once again, she sighed softly at their predicament and rubbed the back of her neck. She probably wouldn't benefit too much from having a strict teacher since she only valued discipline within the dojo. Nonetheless, this was the lot that she seemed to have drawn. Damn... Just my luck. It wasn't the schoolwork that she found difficult to handle, but she didn't like to be pushed. She recognized that her independence stemmed from the lack of parental presence at home and like many things, she felt indifferent toward it. There was no reason to complain as long as they didn't try to restrict her. Therefore, if even her parents couldn't restrict her, what gave a teacher or anyone else the right to do so?

She was her own person as she had always been. Even so, she understood some social cues and responsibilities that should be followed to avoid hassles. "Ah..." She hesitated to agree with Yori based on the mere look that he gave her that made her feel as though that might have been the wrong option, provoking her to blink at him, before she looked over at Ren. Vice-President? She didn't keep up with peoples' activities aside from her own, so it would seem that her position would focus more on the academics. "I suppose he's right, Tsukiko-san...since first impressions with teachers would be more important for a Vice-President... Hopefully, your own teacher is nowhere near as strict as ours. Good luck." Pressing her fingertips together, she smiled pleasantly and gave a bow of her head. She sensed a military sort of presence from their own teacher, so there really wasn't all that much that they could do.

How boring. If she had been more animated, she might have just kicked the door down or busted a window, but her motivation for the glory of studying was minimal this morning. Even if she ended up leaving the school, she could at least explore the city, given that she was already within it.

However, maybe the fact that things hadn't gone according to plan didn't leave her in the best mentality for exploring since she might just look for trouble. All of her frustrations tended to accumulate and had played a key role in her rising to the captainship of the kendo club. It would be problematic if the clubs remained on standby for much longer.

She didn't necessarily want to cause havoc, but she kinda did at the same time in the pursuit of provoking something interesting to happen. This was one of the marks of the Devil as she weighed her options. As a student, much of what she could do had to be in moderation. For the time being, her occasional sins were petty and appeased her just enough. Turning toward Yori, she tilted her head at him and asked, "So, what will you do now that we've been locked out, Yori-san?" She calculated that there was only a handful of options that maximized entertainment, half of which she figured he might overdo or hurt himself in some way. Seeing how her fingers already yearned for her shinai, she was thinking of simply opting to sneak into the dojo.

What have I done? Was it worth it? These were the reoccurring thoughts that plagued NEMI's fourth year Alpha, Gain Mezi. Did she even deserve to continue to hold herself to such a title? It was her consideration that she no longer belonged in the institute that provided her with an accepting family and a feeling of home wherever she went. All she had done in return was abandon them all in their greatest time of need. True, she had been away for months on a personal training expedition and the attack had only occurred some weeks ago, but she couldn't shake the feeling that she should have been there, beside her shaken comrades and friends. This wasn't to say that she could have stopped the whole thing from happening, but maybe she could have protected someone from something. Even the slightest action may have lightened the guilt that weighed so heavily on her heart. Alas, she had no such relief. She had been too preoccupied with lifting boulders and taking hits that served no other purpose than to add to her resilience, only to return the moment she heard NEMI had come under fire and to realize that she was far too late to be of any use to anyone. There was no way she could face the Alphas like this. She couldn't face anyone. Gripping her bare wrist uncomfortably, she made it a point to make a wallflower of herself. If the attendance for the Charity Ball hadn't been mandatory, she might have skipped out and even gone as far as to insist on her expulsion from the academy. Perhaps, she would go forward with apologizing however she could to those around her before proceeding with such an idea.

As she took steps to usher herself into a corner and back into the wall, the clacking of her heels and swish of her dress only served to further her discomfort. It had been some time since she had last had to dress formally and she had grown accustomed to the feeling of glorified armor covering her skin. For the longest time, she felt like she should have been born with her swords at her back and her gloves in her hands. She had forgotten, or rather had been able to push to the back of her mind, what she was actually born into. This was a painful remainder of that. It seemed that everything was painful at the moment and she inhaled deeply. Her breathing was shaky, but she knew that the only way to get through this was to remain calm. I have to take whatever comes... I swear I'll make this up to you all. She owed it to the others to stay and face them. Even if her entire being was feeling suffering from a variety of angles and for just as many reasons.

Usually, she was far more lighthearted, but she was struggling to find a reason to smile or laugh. She had grown from her experiences in the past months; however, she felt that her progress wasn't worth mentioning in the wake of everything that happened. With a sigh, she rubbed the back of her neck and kept her gaze low. If it had been up to her, she would have sat cross-legged on the floor facing the wall with her head hung. That was another way in which this damn dress held her back and made her recall all the times her mother scolded her for sitting boyishly. While her flowy attire suited her figure and flaunted her youthful femininity, she felt out of place. She had long since turned her back on the noble life. It was questionable whether she even remembered how to dance. "Breathe, dammit..." Try as she might, she got the sense that there was a dark cloud over her head. Maybe she was thinking too much. Rubbing her hands together, she worked to steady her nerves. This was so unlike herself. She needed to snap back into it one way or another. Being here was the first step toward whatever internal redemption she needed and one way or another, she'd bare through everything that pained her.

                        THE HISTORY
Yumi, as she insists on being called, has never been a believer of imbalance. It always seemed that whenever something was going right for her family, there had to be an equal action that would throw everything in the opposite direction. Everything would find some way to fall into some place, leaving life to be predictable and boring. Having left home early to avoid the arguments that often emerged from her parents, who may as well have been the sun and the moon, she learned that no good deed went unpunished. Whenever she became interested in a certain subject, sport, or person, it would turn into something vastly dull or untrustworthy at some point. Her kind deeds would be returned with glares toward the ruffled young woman that should have been shopping in the children's section and her indulgences in her vices would only be applauded by common thugs as she started her life from scratch. While it was simple enough to discover that people usually had their priorities mixed up, she often wished she could just see a definitive future coming to avoid wasted effort. It didn't take long for her to lose the wistful nature she had maintained as a child, causing her only pleasures in life to be drinking and reading. Despite how often she can be found in a bar with a dogeared book wobbling back and forth in her hand, her small stature keeps her an easy drunk and no matter the risks, she considers that it is only in that state that there just might be more to life than she's been aware of up to this point since there are a few details that just don't add up when she's sober.

short bio | V had been within the so-called Labyrinth for as long as she could remember. Anytime she tried to remember her state before she was surrounded by all these hedges, the dream turned into something of a nightmare and she didn't bother to pursue such details that appeared to only be enveloped in pain. She only remembered her name, given that she only had a handful of people to talk to, so talking to herself probably played a role in that, and the fact that she was better off here for some reason. In the world she currently lives in, she has learned to live by a few standards. Sticking to herself is the principal one. She had met some interesting young men when her form was going through a fluctuating state and she wasn't as nearly as relaxed as she was now, THE SAVAGE being one that she held no particular malice toward since it had led to her finding a friend in THE KNIGHT. However, now that she had gotten used to the changes in her "dream form" and properly controlled them, she found that it was a bit easier to upset her if she was provoked long enough. This was supposed to be a pleasant dream in a mystical world. But wait, hasn't it always been this way? Isn't this the normal world? Why would she think that there is any other world? Either way, her years in the Labyrinth have reinforced her abilities to the point that upsetting the carefree girl (who seemed to keep waiting on her twenty first birthday to roll around) was not advisable. This was her dream, after all, and she would do away with any pain that reminded her of what she experienced in the past. Outside of these rare occasions, she was true to her title. She could be found lazing around on some high branches or spread out on the occasional boulder more often than not, waiting to wave hello to THE PATHFINDER or exchange interesting stories with THE PUPPET. Unfortunately, it had been some time since she had seen the latter and as many others were caught up in their individual experience of this dream, she was beginning to get lonely. Should she move from her comfortable posts where others did not tend to intrude on her space for their own safety or should she actively seek others, thereby intruding on the territory of those foreign to her? Her confidence in her own strength battled with her cautious, and idle, nature. Even if she found others, there was no confirmation that there would be no backlash, as there had been with THE SAVAGE. Just the same, she could handle such an occasion now and the possibility of making a friend remained. The dream was starting to become stagnant, even for her. She supported the concept of being accountable for herself while not being burdened with the safety of anyone else; however, she supposed companionship came at a price. There had to be more to the Labyrinth than what she had experienced thus far. Stretching out for what felt like four centuries might have been long enough and perhaps, it was time for the carefree girl to figure out just how far this dream could go.

Once she's established an attachment to someone, she will stick by their side and seek to protect, even if the mission is deemed a lost cause. When she's trying to watch out for others, she can come off cocky. This belief that she has the capacity to do anything occasionally couples with an unwavering stubbornness to do what she thinks is right. More often than not, this can get her into trouble as she rushes forward for the sake of her mission or teammates. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
