◈ Generally a silent force, Lucca does not usually have much to say. He is fairly uncomfortable around humans, and feels much more comfortable with Pokemon, particularly Ghost-types. Given his past, it is no surprise he best relates to these strange little Pokemon. Lucca will not speak up unless spoken to in most situations, though upon speaking, it becomes clear fairly quickly he thinks highly of himself. It is not in a vain sort of way --he doesn't put much weight by looks. He simply knows he can offer a lot more than most. When he does hold a conversation, most will find that he can be fairly rude, though he can be a sweetheart at times. It all depends on how comfortable he is with the person.

              »--- History

◈ Roughly nineteen years ago in the hustle and bustle of Celadon City, Lucca Gold was born into the world. Fair haired with bright blue eyes that would fade to gold, his future was planned before he even knew of the world surrounding him. His parents knew exactly what they would raise him to be, and someday, he would be a world-renown Professor, spreading the knowledge of Pokemon for all to know. It was evident as soon as Lucca was exposed to Pokemon that this dream of his parents would surely be true; he took to the little creatures like a bee to honey. He spent nearly every moment with the family Growlithe, and it was clinging to the creature's soft pelt that he took his first steps. They would often be found curled up together in the corner, sound asleep and keeping each other warm. Even when Lucca started school the bond stayed between him and Growlithe, though the time they spent together was shorter. Everything was going according to his parents' plans, and there was no way anything could change.

It was a few days before his birthday. Lucca had plans of traveling off to the famous Pallet Town to try and get a Pokemon to be his partner on his journey. While planning and packing, Growlithe sat nearby. The Fire-type had been acting oddly lately, seeming to have some kind of cold. His family was concerned, but when they brought her to the Pokecenter, they couldn't find what was wrong. They gave the family some medication to treat Growlithe with, and explained that the Pokemon was getting on in years. It was possible she was at the beginning of her end.

Lucca had cast an anxious glance at the sick Pokemon, worrying that leaving would make her condition worse. He was fairly smart for a boy his age, and seemed to know Pokemon better than most. Perhaps it was growing up with a Pokemon next to him, but the young boy could read them well. Lucca knew that something was wrong with Growlithe, something more than just old age. She had been acting curious the last few days, nipping at his parents' heels when they came too close to her. It was now Lucca's sole duty to make sure she got her medication. Leaving left that responsibility to someone else. Would his parents be able to get close enough to Growlithe? Or would they need to bring her to the Pokecenter each day to get her to take the medication she needed?

Stopping in his packing, the blond had walked over to Growlithe, crouching next to her. He had reached out to pat her, to reassure her as best he could, when a growl emitted through bared teeth. Before he knew what was happening, Lucca was screaming on the floor, Growlithe biting anywhere she could. His parents rushed in, calling the Pokemon into her PokeBall for the first time since they had caught her all those years ago. Lucca lay whimpering on the floor, blood seeping slowly through his fingers. He turned his foggy gaze to the right, watching the gentle drip of blood from the palm of his hand to the hard wood floor. For a moment, he saw the unrealistic beauty of it, before the world turned black.

Lucca never went to Pallet Town. He stayed in the hospital for a few weeks, a large portion of his body bandaged up. Even now the scars are clear on his arms, where a majority of the bites were. After that, the boy greatly feared Pokemon, avoiding them whenever he could. It was clear that his parents' dreams for him, to see him become a great Professor, were long gone; if he couldn't go near a Pokemon without fearing for his life, how could he possibly manage such a profession? His parents gave away Growlithe to a new family, who helped her to evolve. As soon as she became an Arcanine, the sickness seemed to pass, and the happy, energetic Pokemon returned to her previous ways.

For years Lucca went without going near a Pokemon, though his enter body craved to be near them. It whispered to him in the back of his mind, reminding him of the good times he had spent with Growlithe: those warm winter nights curled up together, happily snuggled under a blanket; the breezy spring mornings that they'd leave the city, adventuring around near the grass and trees, though always a bit nervous of the wild Pokemon; hot summer days, where Lucca had to dump buckets of water over Growlithe every few hours to help her cool down; crisp fall evenings, when they'd sit around a small fire Growlithe would make. It was all so tempting, and yet a complete impossibility. His mind screamed in panic each time he even just saw a Pokemon, bringing him back to the moment when his beloved friend turned on him. Watching television became impossible, since every show had Pokemon. Going outside was a nightmare, with all the Trainers there were. Lucca soon started spending all his time in his room, curled up on his bed and staring at the wall. He would rarely speak to anyone unless they directly spoke to him, and even then, his comments were short, his answers brief. Nothing was cracking the shell of fear encasing him.

About four years after the attack Lucca learned of the new Virus, which was nicknamed the Eclipse Virus. The topic peaked his interest, the first thing he was actually curious about that involved Pokemon for a long time. He delved into studying it, noticing a strange amount of similarities between studied Pokemon and Growlithe. Realization dawned upon him of what happened, and soon Lucca was among Pokemon again. He was hesitant though, and started with Ghost-type, which were becoming increasingly common in his hometown. It was becoming a dangerous place, what with the Virus and Team Rocket being there. All the same, he convinced his parents to stay there rather than evacuate like many families did. He walked with the many Gastly that floated along, slowly growing a resistance to their poison. He sat chatting with the Duskulls who came and went, appearing insane to those who had stayed behind. They put it off to him inhaling too much Gastly gas, not realizing how well the now-teen understood the Pokemon, even after his years of silence. The few Haunters that appeared he managed to learn from, and Lucca quickly realized his love for Ghost-types. Often labeled scary or evil, it was obvious that neither stereotype was true. They were much more compassionate than any Pokemon the blond had ever encountered, and hearing their stories made it easy for him to relate. Tales of death and destruction reached his ears, making his desire to become a Trainer reform. If he could do just one thing, it would be to help stop this Virus that was hurting so many Pokemon and people, and if it took diving headfirst back into a world he was still slightly resistant to, he would do it. If for nothing, he would do it for his younger self, the boy attacked by his best friend. Nothing like that should happen again.

With his destination in mind, the withdrawn boy made his way to the now abandoned Pallet Town, knowing that a multitude of Ghost-types would be there. Even though Lucca has mostly overcome his general fear of Pokemon, he still struggles with being around Fire-types. Studying them in the wild would help, he was sure of it. And, if the rumored Professor Maple was still there, offering his services, Lucca knew exactly what Pokemon he would want: Charmander, his gateway to Fire-type recovery.

          • Fern, the nickname given with the thought of irony in mind, not to mention its relation to the word Inferno, is Lucca's first real Pokemon. Though he has been around various Pokemon before, and had a family Growlithe, he has never had one to call his very own. She seems fairly independent, and yet enjoys being around her new trainer and is patient with him, despite his slightly darker aura, though it seems to lift when he's with Pokemon. With a slightly cocky attitude, she seems just as sure of herself as her trainer. She is one of few Fire-types that Lucca truly can handle being around, but even with her, he struggles to trust her completely.
