I love teh yaoi (๑>ᴗ<๑) I've been around Gaia for about 7 or 8 years I believe and of those many years, I've spent the last 4yrs loving on the m// so, superduper happy that the last open role (seeimgly sorta?) pairs with a fellow dude - lucky me! ٩(๑∂▿∂๑)۶♡ I just finished studying abroad in Japan for the fall '13 and spring '14 semester - incredible fun was had! Because of my plentiful adventures of drunken stuporness loljkbutnotreally, I went on hiatus for the majority of the time imsosorryformyrustiness. I'm back though! And ready to whoop up some kickass characters for some equally kickass roleplays!

CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
❝draft a scene in which your character has an important decision to make that requires the sacrifice of either of two things important to them❞
xxxxxStanding before a figure -- male, female, either or both, Raiden was left clueless. Around the cloaked figure was a mystifying and blinding light -- or was it darkness? It was either so bright it was dark or it was so dark that it was bright. It didn't sound possible or logical though; it had to go against some law of physics. Science. Well, wait, what about black holes? Same thing, right? Raiden wasn't losing his mind even more than he had thought, right? Light could totally come from darkness. Except, one more problem: it wasn't like they were in space. If they had been, Raiden's pounding heart wouldn't still be circulating oxygen throughout his body. The whole thing was confusing. He didn't understand. Was there something wrong with him? There had to be.
xxxxxThe voice spoke once more, grabbing Raiden's distracted mind. Hearing the voice again shocked him, again. It sounded like his own voice but at the same time it didn't. A soft, calm timber told the young Japanese male that he could change, become different, better, but it would involve being opened up, shredded apart, mutilated from the inside -- and all by his own doing. If Raiden wanted answers and explanations for the unexplainable guilt he had been feeling and the feelings of wanting to atone, he could achieve those. He could find the answers he was seeking but it would mean the temporary loss of his own sanity.
xxxxxRaiden was a brittle bone that no longer aligned with where it should have been. Like bones that need to be broken again because they weren't healing properly, Raiden had to be broken again. He needed to break and then heal so he could be stronger. One could live with parts of themselves being broken, but they would hardly be happy. Happiness. That was something that Raiden wanted to have. Going on without it was not something he would choose. But, what if he couldn't get through all of the darkness to reach that happiness? He didn't want to reject happiness but he didn't know if he was strong enough to reject whatever it was that was protecting him from that darkness.
xxxxx"What. . . What if I can't do it?" What if he couldn't reach happiness? What if he couldn't rip himself apart? What if he couldn't atone for his mistakes and evil doings?
xxxxx"I don't think I can.." Raiden was lost, confused, and it absolutely showed in his quivering, doubtful voice.
xxxxxHe was scared. Nervous. He wasn't strong enough for this. He couldn't do it. He was alone and there was no one who would be there to help. No one except... The following thoughts only added to his misery rather than comfort him. He wasn't alone. Not really. He could feel it. Something. In the one place a person was expected to be alone -- their body -- he didn't feel alone. It was like being able to feel a person's stare from across the room but not even having known they were there. There was... something there, with him.
xxxxxIf he chose happiness instead of his naive, albeit safe, frame of mind he would have to go through hell. If he chose the feelings of safety, he would still be in hell with these daunting worries. He didn't want to face either predicament: either lose whatever it was that made him feel safe or lose his chance for atonement and to become happy. But, happiness. It would be worth it if it was for that. He would be happy by the end of it. Right? Would he really be able to atone for his past if he somehow managed to pull this off? Maybe he could do it if it was over a period of time. Maybe, just maybe, he could risk himself of his own accord, make amends for whatever he's done up until that point, and become happier. Just maybe.

xxxxxFour predominant qualities of this Glasswing Butterfly can be narrowed down to being dependent, nervous, gullible and timid. All four characteristics feed into one another, and as such are all equally a result of nurture. Growing up without over-protective parents coddling him around each and every corner, Raiden grew into the above characteristics. When it was becoming evident that was the case, it was too late to interfere or prevent it from developing further. Through Raiden's sympathetic nature, he was unable to adapt or grow an accurate sense of analysis -- too analytical of himself, Raiden rarely if ever, doubted other people. When thoughts of doubt entered his mind, it was not because he was aware of a person's overall bad character; rather it was a mark against himself, that he was the one at fault, the one who had poor character and had done wrong.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
xxxxxRaiden's change in character is nearly synonymous with atonement, or at least coming to terms with what he's done that needs atonement. Due to this, Raiden's development will have to be slow and subtle in his changes throughout periods of time. For obvious reasons that a "bad" person is unable to change "for the better" overnight, Raiden also needs to consciously come to terms and accept that he has multiple (two) personalities. Additionally, he will need to learn that while one personality is responsible for all the actions responsible for needing atonement, the other personality is responsible for having blocked all memories from Raiden's conscious.
xxxxxOver time, Raiden will be able to learn to be more forthright and blunt like his ever-so-significant other-to be, the Crimson Rose. Through the Paper Kite'sown existence as the Crimson Rose's friend, she will offer Raiden the confidence to be critical, not extremely so, but just in the general sense of the term. Rather than always doubting and blaming himself (and letting himself be blamed), he will become aware that he is not responsible for every little thing in each situation.

xxxxxThe Glasswing butterfly cannot help but have introverted tendencies to a fault in certain environments. Neither calculating nor cynical in normal day to day life, he believes in the surface level of peoples' words. As such, it leaves him to be a target for being used and treated like a scapegoat at times. Believing that, in situations as those, he is to blame in some way or another, his shyness and dependency formed causing him to always desire confirmation and approval from those around him.
WHY ARE THEY SENT TO PURGATORY?
xxxxxRaiden (ry-den) let people walk all over him, but didn’t at the same exact time. He was too pure, too sweet, too good to see the bad, the ugly, the evil in others. And so, it only took a certain amount of time for things to escalate and for purity to be lost. Like a child who was never allowed candy, he went from one extreme to the other: he went absolutely ballistic. But not really: it was “Rion” (ree-ohn) who developed and took over – and for a very long and prolonged period of time. Rion was the beast, the monster, the one who brought things to equilibrium and exacted the man price for past and present wrongs committed against Raiden. There was no simplicity or mercy in his retaliation: the acts varied from arson, physical brutality, tormenting and destroying his targets and those around them to sadistic and humiliating predicaments which proved to be the most mild revenge.
xxxxxRion’s acts became so extreme to the point where Raiden, when he would come-to, would be swept away in reliving the revolting memories, the sickening actions and the nauseating emotions of pleasure that Rion was deriving from it, that Raiden began to question his own sanity. He felt like he was crazier than the mad hatter – having a personality outside of his own was insane enough, but to deal with a homicidal maniac inside of his head?! It was too much. Raiden began overdosing on pills and various other drugs so as to silence Rion’s ever talkative mouth of hatred and to put a stop from reliving those horrid memories. That was when “Rein” (rain) manifested himself inside of Raiden. It was him who took care of Raiden. It was him who grew a tolerance for the drugs and vomited the pills up. Rein, unlike the angry, uncontrollable and sadistic Rion, was a personality that came to pick up the pieces when Raiden’s core self couldn’t. Rion acted like a medium between the two and served as a wall and shield, blocking Rion’s actions from Raiden’s memories and, through manipulation on Rein’s behalf, let Raiden’s core personality revert back to as much of his “pure” self as possible while keeping the harmful memories and experiences in a locked box.
xxxxxThe impact from Rion’s actions, however, caused the lively individual to become introverted, timid, hesitant and always prepared to take the blame for everything and anything. Talk about opening the door and letting the past repeat itself. Somewhere, deep down, Raiden can feel that there’s something he needs to atone for and will need to reap the sorrows of, but for the life of him, he can’t remember. It’s almost like he’s in the dark. And he is – he just doesn’t know it.
