Biography
tab tab Unlike most other merfolk, Meridia was not born a mermaid, born instead as a regular mortal human. She lived along the same coast that Asfalis Isle was established on countless years ago, living a fairly normal life with parents and siblings and friends. She was a curious and adventurous young girl, eager to see the world and try new things, and yet she was the only one who seemed to want to leave that little ocean town. Although she loved her town and her family, Meridia had big dreams that she hoped to fulfill someday, if only the right opportunity came along.

As she aged, however, her big dreams faded into the background as real life took over, and she soon realized that they might not ever be fulfilled. That was, until she met a man who shared the same sense of adventure that she had and fell completely head over heels for him. He shared her feelings and they lived happily together for a few years, until the time finally came when they pledged to be with each other for eternity and were happily married. Excited for her bright future with her husband, Meridia had no trouble saying goodbye to her family and friends in that little ocean town and set off with him to see the world. They set out to make history together on the open seas, traveling on the ocean in their prized fishing boat, seeing all kinds of continents and islands. Meridia was finally happy, and she knew that she never wanted this crazy dream to end.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end; one night when Meridia and her husband were sailing on the ocean, an unexpected storm came upon their little boat and completely capsized it, right there in the middle of the vast sea. Trapped underneath a heavy piece of debris, Meridia could only helplessly watch as her husband was claimed by the water, and although she struggled for life death seemed imminent for her as well. No matter how hard she fought to stay afloat the waves kept pulling her down, and eventually her limbs gave out; she sank and sank into the darkness, unable to breath or see or feel, and at that moment death seemed oddly comforting as it held her in its soft embrace.

But something extraordinary happened at that moment; a glow erupted from deep beneath the waves, illuminating the darkness that would surely claim Meridia forever. The light overtook her and clung to her, and she could feel the life being breathed back into her. She emerged from the brilliant light as a magnificent creature of the sea, her tired legs replaced with a beautiful tail and her body radiating with the essence of the crystalline ocean. She relished her second chance at life although she mourned deeply for the loss of her precious husband, and spent countless years traveling the ocean among the other lifeforms that lived there. She knew she owed her life to whatever force had saved her when she had been so close to drowning, but she was never able to find the source of the magic that transformed her into what she is now. Eventually the memories of her past life faded, but when she stumbled upon what is now Asfalis it seemed to ignite some fond memory within her, and so she decided to stick around.
