The younger children know how to get Makoto to bend the rules for them. || He's a people pleaser, so if you ask him for a favor he will most likely do it.

Fears ||Reptiles and Amphibians || The dark || Claustrophobic.

Hopes & Dreams ||Makoto tries to envision himself having a life outside the orphanage quite often. He desires to return to Japan and seek out the family that had given him up. He believes that, even 11 years later, they will love their son. From there, he wishes to go to college and play basketball, maybe even making it pro. For that, he may go to America. Who knows If not, then he'll find something to do in college and get a job, raise a family, and have kids. A simple life. .

Biography || It was simply ... not enough. The life they had been living before wasn't enough to provide for him, and their hopes were soon set on the land of freedom for their soon to be child to live and grow up happy. The two Japanese families fled from their homeland, immigrating to a better place that they could call home. The woman, Mitsuha, was nineteen years young and 8 months pregnant, while the man was Saiga, twenty-one years young. The Japanese couple had lived in poverty for the last few years of their life, and saw the best decision was to go some place else. They gathered up all the money they could, the two suitcases of their belongs, a worn down diaper bag for their expected child, and 2 plane tickets. They were young and wild, desperate to find a place to build their cozy little home with a white picket fence. The unborn child in Mitsuha's stomach near finished growing, and would hopefully arrive once they found a home.

But alas, luck wasn't on their side. With the lack of experience in white collar jobs, Saiga had no choice but to find a job that will accept an immigrant and paid enough for him to support his family. He was hired by a kind business man who had valued the courage, strength, and willingness the man had to help take care of his family. Who would deny such a man who was willing to work under any circumstances? He was given a small 2 bedroom apartment, and enough money to have food for he and his wife (and soon to be child).

A few weeks later, Makoto was born. Sadly ... He wasn't born a healthy child. When he was born, he hadn't come out crying like the usual babies, and for being 9 months along when he was born, he was quite small. Tests were immediately done on the child, and they had come to find out he had severe heart problems. His father was barely able to provide a shelter, food, and clothes for the family, how was he going to be able to pay for the medical bills? The truth is ... he wasn't. But he needed to do all that he could to save his son. Saiga down graded their apartment to a run-down one bedroom one, and had to live off of 90 cent soup packs ... but he was able to get the treatment that his sonn needed. His boss understood this, yet wanted Saiga to work for it all himself. The small family of 3 barely survived the next few years, and sadly things had steadily became worst.

Saiga's boss had decided to fire him, finding someone else who was a better fit for the job. Mitsuha was unable to work due to the fact that she needed to take care of her son, and Saiga was finding it a bigger struggle to find a job. They needed to return to Japan. But even in Japan there wouldn't be much for them let alone their 4 year old child. So Saiga and Mitsuha did the only thing they could do ... leave him at an orphanage. The small diaper bag they had brought with them was left on the doorstep with Makoto standing by it. The child had been taught in and only spoke Japanese, but his parents knew he would be able to learn English quicker than they could. With one last hug and kiss goodbye, Makoto was left crying on the door step of the orphanage ... alone.

He was accepted into the run down place, and caught onto English by the time he was 6. To this day Makoto is still fluent in both English and Japanese, and actual studies Japanese so he can one day return to his native land to find his parents. He had grown up helping Madame Hoffner with the orphanage acting as a second mother, earning him the nickname "Mama" by the young ones (by the time they are old enough, they begin to call him Ko, Makoto, or even brother). He had met his best friend, Atsuya, 2 years after he had arrived at the orphanage himself, and the two Japanese decent boys had been inseparable since. They view themselves as "native blood brothers" since they both hail from Japan, and often speak Japanese to one another when they have private conversations.

Now that he just turned seventeen, Makoto is contemplating whether or not he wishes to stay and help with the orphanage for a while or not. He'd be old enough to get a job, and attend college, and with the money he will receive from a basketball scholarship he obtained, he will be able to give all his money to the orphanage to help with groceries, or even repairs. All he wishes to do is give a happy home to the children who all deserve it, just like how his parents had fought to give him a better life.

His heart condition is stable, and takes medication as well as has a pacemaker that is located in his hip. Its noticeable if he lifts up his shirt. The young ones are fascinated when they see it, and sometimes pretend that he's a robot because of it.
