How things came to be.
Walking down the road that led from the ranch to the small stream you know so well by now, you think of the story your Grandmother told you last night. Your mind begins to wander in thought as you recall it. "Many years ago, so many that it's hard to rightly tell, there was a special kind of creature. And very few special people owned them or found them. They were called Baa Baa's," she had said.
"But what could be so special about them, and where had they gone?" you had asked. "Well you see, they came and went with the wind until they found someone so special and worthy of their friendship. And when they did, they stayed with that person forever. Baa Baa's were a lot like the sheep you know now. But they weren't made of ordinary wool. Theirs was a special kind that could be used for many things. That made them very rare and special. And that too was the cause of their disappearance," she had said sadly. "People began to search for Baa Baa's and cut off all their wool when one was found, and cutting off all their special wool not only hurt them, but it also killed them; you see, their wool didn't easily grow back. So the wind, seeing that its friends were being hunted down without mercy, one day swept them all away, and no one has ever seen one since." she finished. "So we will never see a Baa Baa again, Grammy?" you had asked. "Well my child, maybe if you keep an open heart, and you are deemed worthy, one day you'll hear a very special chime in the wind," she had added, as she kissed you goodnight.
So now, thinking about that story, walking down the road under the shadows of the tall pine trees, as the gentle breeze blows the leaves and makes soft sounds, you suddenly stop. That couldn't have been the sound you think it was. You shake your head as if to clear it; that story, and thinking too much about it were starting to make you imagine things. "Ding.. Ding.." There it was again! This time you are sure you heard it. It was a sort of chime, like a bell nearby. You look down at the meadow to your right, and start heading there. "Ding.. Ding.." The wind was not a gentle breeze anymore. It made your hair ruffle up and flicker about, and it carried that soft chime closer and closer. Suddenly, it went still and nothing around seemed different, but there was a small bell-looking, fluff of wool floating there, right in front of you, and it made a small chiming sound. "Ding.. Ding.." As if it was saying hello.
You carefully picked it up, and held it close, feeling its soft texture. "Could this be....," you mumbled in awe, and ran back to the ranch to show it to your Gammy. But once you got there she just laughed a bit at you; she didn't see or hear what you did. To her it was just a bundle of cotton, so she just went back to doing what she had been doing. You go to your room, and place the cotton bell on your desk, and lie down on your bed for a short nap. When you awake though the cotton bell is beside you on your pillow. And as you soon discover, it never stays in the same place for long, especially if it's away from you. How it moves is still a mystery, and what will come from it... well it's your moment to discover it! Just remember, be nice and loving to it, so that the wind never takes it away from you.
