Likes Making tea, heights, crowds, alcohol, successful meditation, and martial arts

Dislikes Night time, being isolated, tea, gambling, disrespect toward the dead (bit of a hypocrite with this), and shoes

Fears The dark, being possessed forever, having unfinished business after death

Hobbies In her free time, Dawa is either meditating, making tea, watching some sort of martial art contest, or recording a spirit's story. She has quite a collection of both true and fictional horror stories and isn't above using one as a part of a prank on a coworker or student.

        My Powers are...
Seeing spirits This is pretty self explanatory. Dawa is able to see not only spirits of the dead but spirits which were never alive to begin with. She believes this power to be troublesome as spirits know that she can see them and are often a nuisance. If one is particularly powerful, she is much easier to influence than the average being due to being able to make eye contact.
Separating soul from body She is able to leave her physical body behind and wander as a spirit. To any living being who witnesses this, it appears that her body is being devoured by a dark shadow starting at her eyes. The shadow remains until she, or another spirit, returns and takes the flesh over. This makes her liable to be possessed by something. In theory, she could cast other's souls from their bodies as well, but she hasn't even attempted to try it.
Traveling to the astral plane Once she has shed her physical connection to the living world, she can ascend to the astral plane (spirit world). There she can interact with spirits and learn about things in the past, present, and future in varying degrees of detail. Being perfectly honest, she usually visits either to help a spirit whom has been bugging her and/or to get alcohol brewed by spirits, as it has the best taste.

Weapon of choice?... Throwing knives if she must use a weapon, otherwise just her body and natural abilities

Extra Her right eye is made of glass. She rarely wears it because she finds other's reaction to the missing eye amusing.
She is a chain smoker, using the smoke to drive spirits away; yes, while that is true she does use it as an excuse to keep smoking.
She speaks three languages: Standard Tibetan, Standard Chinese (which she can neither read nor write in), and Japanese.

Dawa comes off as a tough woman who doesn't take s**t from anyone. Opinionated, stubborn, and somewhat loud, she can be intense to be around, especially with first impressions. However, if she hasn't scared someone off, she proves to be open, patient, and surprisingly laid back. Despite being opinionated she can see both sides of an argument, often choosing one for some petty reason or another. She can be a bit aloof and short tempered, especially when dealing with both the living and a number of spirits, but she tries to keep it under control. If she ever just suddenly ends a conversation, this is because she is close to snapping and doesn't want to have to apologize later.

Once the ice breakers and small talk are out of the way, Dawa starts to show her more humorous side. She is sarcastic, but is careful to assure to be so only around those who can handle it, and witty, loving nothing more than to have someone to bounce quips off of. She expresses her humor in through blunt phrases and it often comes across as rude to people who don't know her. Her humor is also off-beat and very dark, not surprisingly considering her abilities and life experiences. Her usual filters on monitoring how dark she goes completely disappear when she's drunk, resulting in her giggling like a child while joking about things too morbid for a funeral. Similarly, almost every aspect of her personality becomes more transparent when she is drunk.

Overall, Dawa is a story teller at heart and wants nothing more than people to enjoy their life. She can either be a great friend or a horrible enemy, sarcasm being involved in both situations. She will do everything in her power to assure that her students are living in the moment and embracing life, good or bad.

Dawa was born and raised in Tibet among all the political discord. Born to two loving parents, her early childhood was completely normal. Well, as normal as a childhood filled with seeing strange things on a daily basis could be. Even as a baby, she was always "staring off into space" and having reactions (laughing, crying, ect) in response to nothing. In fact, these responses were due to watching spirits. As she grew, it wasn't uncommon to see her having complete conversations with "air," vividly describing what she saw if someone asked her to. Her parents both pushed it off as imaginary friends until her mother's brother told her that their mother had the ability to see spirits. Her mother figured it must have been genetic and both parents encouraged her to have an open dialogue with them and the spirits, hoping to help some along the way. Everything was fine until she turned eight.

On the night of her eighth birthday, she met a new spirit whom she instantly knew wasn't good news. In hindsight, the spirit was actually quite helpful as it showed her how to project her soul out of her body and visit the astral plane, but it did this through its own power, not hers. Luckily for her, her father had opened the door to say goodnight when he saw her shadow covered body sitting up in bed. Grabbing the body, he ran out the door. Unknown to him, this severed the connection the spirit had with Dawa's body and effectively brought her back. Terrified for their daughter's safety and knowing that what had occurred was not medically related, they took her to the nearest monastery the next day. They had her explain to the head monk what had happened, along with other details such as how long and how she felt about it. He instantly recognized it as more than being sensitive to the spiritual world and arranged for Dawa to spend a couple of months with a nearby nunnery. She was not thrilled about the idea and pitched a fit, only finding it to be of no help after she had been left at the steps. She instantly didn't the like head nun and though her opinion of the woman didn't change, the experience helped her greatly. She agreed to split her time between living with her parents, attending school, and doing other normal things and living at the nunnery, learning about and how to properly use her abilities.

As she started visiting the astral plane more and more, her physical appearance began to change, resulting in the pale hair and skin, and deep color of eyes. The head nun assured her that this was perfectly normal; the change in eye color was the result of having opened the connection to the afterlife, the change in hair color was just the bodies response to the stress of maintaining that connection. She had no other option but to accept it.

Throughout her stays at the nunnery, the head nun pushed her into physical exercise to help Dawa handle the stress. It quickly became apparent that she excelled at martial arts, constantly putting the small training room to work. There wasn't a day that passed that her feet and palms were bleeding from over-practicing. It was during her last long term visit to the nunnery that she lost her eye due to an accident practicing, which she once again had no choice but to accept. She left the nunnery on her twenty-first birthday in hopes of becoming a functional member of society. Several odd jobs and years later, she caught wind of a school for those with unusual abilities. Despite never having official taught a class before, she applied and got the job. This will be her seventh year at Blackbird Academy.
