tab Or, perhaps, stubborn. Once she puts her mind to something, she'll see it through, regardless of what anybody else might think or say. Unless somebody has a really good argument against what she's doing, she's bound to do it anyways.

tab As Ari doesn't have many friends, she's very close to and protective of those she has. She won't easily let anybody hurt those she cares for - and if they do, she'll never let them do it again. And they may or may not pay for it in some way. With friends and loved ones she's content to be a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand - whatever they may need.

tab Anxiety issues are something she's always struggled with on some level or another. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it gets a whole lot worse. She's been on meds for it for a couple of years now, and they've certainly helped. Thankfully it's never gotten so bad as to have a full blown panic attack, but sometimes the nervousness hits out of nowhere.

tab tab tab ( ★ ) SOFT-SPOKEN

tab Ariana is a fairly quiet young woman, keeping to herself more often than not. It's not that she's shy - she doesn't mind meeting new people, and has no issues speaking in front of her class - but she just doesn't open up easily. Nor does she raise her voice very often. She can be a little introverted due to her insecurity regarding her heritage, and how she feels others might view her because of that.

tab Some may think that a child of Hades would be a more morose, downcast sort of figure. Ari finds some satisfaction in proving them wrong. She's a light, happy kind of girl who does her best to find the silver lining - even if it's not always possible. She may be a demigod, but that doesn't mean that life isn't short, and she doesn't want to waste it in despair. Sure, she gets angry and depressed sometimes; who doesn't? But that's not how she wants to live every day.

★)) Elizabeth Fairchild was a young woman working long hours to try and pay her way through college. She had her boyfriend of a year, Maxwell Crane, who was not a pleasant man in the least. He had been, before they started going out; and to outsiders, he still was. But Elizabeth knew the truth. Max was a drug addict, was verbally and physically abusive, and he had a horrible temper - especially when he was sober. The blissful early period in their relationship had long since passed, and Elizabeth was now miserable. Until she met him. A handsome, eloquent man with a sharp wit and stunning smile that came in to the restaurant that she was working at after class. He came in on the nights she worked, and she was enamored, drawn in by the mystery man's charm from the get-go. But she repelled his advances, as she didn't want to be known as a cheater.

★)) She missed work one night, as she couldn't cover the newest bruises, and it was on her way to the pharmacy that she ran into the man from the restaurant. He took one look at the bruises on her face and went very quiet, then bid her a good evening and went on his way. When she returned to her apartment later that night Max was hastily packing up his things and telling her that he was leaving. That he was sorry for what had happened. Elizabeth had no idea what had happened, but she was happy that she was finally free from his power over her. And so when she saw the man again she told him that her boyfriend - now her ex - had left. He asked her out to dinner immediately and she accepted; and it was at dinner that night that she learned the truth about her mysterious suitor. His name was Hades. He was a god - one straight out of Greek mythology. She didn't believe him, at first, but then he proved it with his strange abilities, and it was hard not to believe it.

★)) From then on he continued to see her when he had a chance, the two continuing their affair under the cloak of night. After a year or so since they came together Elizabeth found she was pregnant. It was a a joyous discovery, and eight months later, she gave birth to a little girl. Her lover seemed to be just as happy, but he insisted that it would be best if the child grew up without knowing him, and he disappeared. Elizabeth was hurt, but after some deliberation, decided that he was right. Hades was, after all, married to Persephone, and was the ruler of the Underworld. How would that affect a child's development? So she raised her daughter on her own, once a year hiring a sitter for the night so that she could go and meet with Hades in private. Over time, however, Elizabeth's devotion to her godly lover began to wane. Surely he couldn't truly care for her if he was never willing to come and see her more than once a year. The distance between them grew, and while she knew she would always love the man that had saved her, she knew she had to continue living her own life. She had a daughter to take care of, after all, and that was the most important thing. So Ariana spent much of her first year of life in a daycare when she wasn't with her mother, who was finishing her masters in psychology and establishing her career so as to give them a good life.

★)) Ariana, for her part, was perfectly content as a little girl to be raised by a single mother. She and her mom got the occasional odd look from their neighbors and whatnot - as she grew up she'd learn that they didn't approve of the woman and her 'b*****d child' - but until she started school, that wasn't a problem. By the time she hit the second grade it was certainly becoming obvious that not having her father around was a bit of an anomaly. It was something that she tried not to let bother her; her mom had never really answered her questions about her dad so, as curious as she was, there wasn't much else she could do about it. Ari took the taunts and teasing from her classmates for years until her mom found out about the bullying and taught her to stand up for herself. It was when she was about to turn thirteen - a couple of months before her life started to change.

★)) Ariana began to discover that she was... Different. That she could do things that nobody else could. It was then that her mother decided it was time to tell her about her heritage. To tell her who her father really was. Hades, the King of the Underworld. It would have sounded crazy, if she didn't already possess supernatural abilities. Minor control over the earth, control over the shadows, ghosts, even over the dead. Being able to sap the life force from living things. Confused and horrified, the girl became withdrawn, afraid to leave the house lest anybody find out about her unnatural powers, or she should accidentally hurt somebody. And for a long time, being able to do what she could was absolutely terrifying. What little girl wanted to be a harbinger of death? She had to withdraw from school for a year due to her anxiety issues and her fear of being around people. Her mother loved her as she always had, but was growing more concerned with her daughters sudden reclusive behavior. So she turned to the internet of all things to try and find support of some form or another.

★)) It was on a forum for single parents where she met a man from Switzerland, Hugo Lund - a brilliant surgeon who was raising his son on his own. The two found common ground and spent much of their time chatting, eventually moving to video chats over Skype. After a few months of that Ariana was introduced via Skype to Hugo's son, Noel - a sweet boy that was half a year her junior. The two slowly befriended one another, and it was during an accident while they were video chatting that Ariana accidentally revealed her powers. The initial horror of how Noel would react was replaced by startled joy when he revealed that he, too, was different. He'd recently found out that his mother, Chione, was a goddess as well - one of snow and ice. Ariana was overjoyed to have met someone like her, and her mother was not only glad to see her mood improving, but that she'd met a man in whom she could confide her fears regarding her demigod child.

★)) After a couple of years their parents decided that it would be good for the two families to meet in person. So that summer the Fairchilds went to Basel, Switzerland, to meet the Lunds. And that winter Noel and his father came to see them in Florida. It didn't take too long after their first visit to Switzerland for Ari to notice how her mother acted around Hugo - she was in love with him. Ariana, then sixteen, was happy for her mother (though she still wondered about her biological father sometimes) and encouraged Elizabeth to take her chances with the Swiss man. And, the summer when Ariana was eighteen, Elizabeth and Hugo got engaged in Basel. That fall Hugo and Noel moved to Florida to live with them. Ariana finished up high school with her almost-step-brother. After graduation their parents announced that they'd found a university for them to attend - Arkwright, which was apparently a school for the 'supernatural,' so to speak. The two of them started together this year, and Ariana hopes to spend her time at Arkwright mastering her abilities as well as hopefully finding a way to meet her father.

tab tab tab Noel is, in all honesty, Ariana's best friend. They've been close since they were young, and are now about to become step-siblings. He was the first person who learned about her powers (aside from her mom). She couldn't ask for a better brother. He's a wonderful person, and she'll never forgive anybody who tries to hurt him.

( ★ ) Violet Sheppard - House Zeus
tab tab tab Vi's a doll. As there aren't many females in House Zeus, the two have bonded over their X chromosomes. They're good friends, and while Ariana is wary of Violet's adventurousness, it might be good for her to be hauled out of her shell a little. On the other hand, maybe she can help Violet chill out a little.

( ★ ) Zoraida Burton - House Hecate
tab tab tab They might be in different houses, but Ariana is still fairly fond of Zoraida. The witch is a bit of a sister-figure - somehow older as, despite being a year younger, she possesses the maturity and eloquence that make her seem older. Sure, the occasional babying might fluster her, but Zoraida's a pillar of calm when Ariana feels anxious.

tab tab tab The girls are fairly similar, so they get along well enough. Amber's a little more cheerful in contrast to Amber's reservedness, but somehow it all balances out.
