You know what? ******** it. I want to rant.

The first mistake: Flynn's Booty.
2011/2012 it was introduced. Heh... I remembered when people were complaining that this was a bad idea. But they still continued to the murky waters. They did an half-assed job on making gold sinks but then their greed on short-term profits got them releasing the same Flynn's Booty over and over again.

Rich kids/People with too much money spammed bought it, generating too much gold. The marketplace slowly rose. What was almost in your grasp, rose by a few million or a few 100k. People saw it coming. Items were rising and it was time to stop. But you only bothered to listen to the people who paid for it, not the ones who didn't. Those rich idiots don't know the consequences of Flynn's Booty. You didn't think of it rationally. Money talks instead.

The second mistake: Failure to follow up their first mistake.
They attempted to add in some gold sinks which failed miserably due to the lack of thought that was put into it. They thought it was a minor setback. You're so darn wrong. Are you deaf? Your users' wise and rational words failed to get through your thick skulls.

The third mistake: They gave up.
From what I see, it feels like they gave up on this site. What was once built with a loyal player base in 2001 with some cute little monthly collectibles to support them, became an overwhelming desperate plea for gaia cash items sales. releasing many chance items and for the most part; new gaia cash items than gold.

It looks like they are trying their best to keep the company barely afloat to milk as much money before it goes bankrupt. Gaia, you aren't trying hard enough. I have no idea what's going on internally within the company, but it looks like some passionate and important people have left.

They are the next Runescape.
Heard of that game? They failed to listen to their consumers and look what happened; a drastically reduced player base, more than 3/4 of their original player base is gone. Their failures to take consideration of player feedback before implementing something new has screwed them up.

HOWEVER. They learnt from their mistakes before it's all too late. They have lost most of their player base, but they decided to try to get their feet back up. They initiated a player feedback approach and was willing to hear out new ideas from the community. Player involvement is a very important aspect to keep a company afloat, with long-term profits ahead.

Short term is never the way to go. But you're worse than Runescape, Gaia. People used to be able to get items through hard work and time via playing games and offering services to other people (gain gold). But now, it's literally impossible unless you top up some gaia cash.

Runescape made wise decisions and never made money something you have to keep spending in huge amounts just to get unique items. They made sure that they don't cross the fine line between paid content and free content. Whether you pay or not, putting the extra effort and time will get you good gear. (Excluding membership)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But you're actually worse than them.
In Gaia, there's no limit to how much you can pay. This paid content system they had is easily abused, ruining the player market, leaving no value to the gold or items. Runescape has its fair share of issues like that in their marketplace. (Grand Exchange) But they dealt with the situation effectively, with the items decreasing in price than a super-inflation.

Gaia's issues are slowly snowballing, but they don't want to stop it. It's still possible to turn back. It may take awhile, but with dedication and time, it'll slowly recover from its downhill.

But if they refuse to, I'd say good luck. Your time in the industry is limited.
May you be banned from creating any corrupted businesses.

One more thing. Think; Eve Online. A role model to all online gaming companies.
They rely heavily on player feedback to create a quality game with desired features.
Moral of the story? Listen to your consumers/players. They are your one and only lifeline.
With that, you either make a change or go ******** yourself.

I am more than positive that Mr. COO doesn't even use the site anymore, as is a good chunk of Gaia.

It's the only way to explain this clear lack of transparency.

That, or he's an airhead to shame most natural blondes. 😒
Very well written to both the OP and to Naturally Feline.
I can only hope that Gaia manages to get its act together. I've spent a truthfully ridiculous amount of time on here over the years, and I've met some of my best friends on this site.
The three of us met here roleplaying in Barton Town - I'm not sure where we'd go without Gaia.

unfortunately my hopes aren't very high, tbh
As an actual 2003 user, I am disgusted by the amount of items that have be re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-relased and it's such a disappointment; back in early days, Gaia was simple site for everyone to come lurk and discuss topics. But now, it's a havoc that's based on purchasing GC for tons of items that are similar in previous forms. For example, Gaia Inc. decided to 'rework' on Angelic Halo around 2013 to 'commemorate' its founding of 10 years. Few months later, more Angelic Halo prototypes come out with that slang "come get 'em cause it's a limited time' and users flock over to GC for these items. For me to even purchase GC, it won't happen ever cause I have no desire to spend money on a site that's just going for quick-cash scheme without creativity. On the other hand, I've spent about $500 on LoL (League of Losers) cause Riot Inc. actually has a creativity management which design skins and rework on champion skills. Keep this GC and extensive re^9000 release items and Gaia will end up like AOL.
