I'm so glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. This is seriously pissing me off. Been here since 2004, and came back recently to discover Gaia has been doing almost nothing but Cash announcements for a while now.

When the cash shop first came out, I was wary. However, I loved the concept of evolving items and bought a few myself--provided that they were at a reasonable price. There were only a few items in the cash shop, so i didn't feel too pressured to buy anything and the E.I.s kept me coming back every Friday. Now that they're adding so much stuff to the cash shop I feel overwhelmed and don't even look at what they're selling. If we had some communication I would at least feel a bit better, but as it is now, I feel disconnected and invisible.

I like most of the items they're coming out with, but i'm not interested in spending real money on this s**t. It needs to stop. They need to find another way to fund their other ventures (talking about the rumored 18+ site) instead of pushing all these sales on us.

Question:

Has anyone ever considered sending a (or MANY!) physical letters or petitions via snail mail to Gaia Interactive, Inc.'s corporate offices?

Having worked in the corporate world for many years, this is something that actually DOES reap direct action (typically), or at the very least, response.

I especially feel like, coming from users of 10+ years (myself included) that there may be some actual consideration given to the issue. Maybe once its offline and IRL, they'll realize we're serious. We are the reason that Gaia is even in the current position its in, and ignoring us will definitely have drastic repercussions for the future of Gaia. I can't even tell you how much money I've spent on this site over the years, and thats because I loved the community and I wanted to support it, even as a teenager. Now though, its clear Gaia is about GREED and not its users. If they keep alienating everyone like this, their older user base will walk.

I feel like its totally unscrupulous to try and drain a community of REAL money for pixel items, whose majority base are children and teenagers!!! The only reason there are so many adults on this site is because we've all been here since we were kids. So maybe as adults, instead of sticking to interwebs petitions that just get ignored anyways, we should rise to meet them on their level (which is Corporate, don't get it twisted.)

If anyone is interested in putting together such a thing, I would love to be involved!

Also: Here is Gaia's PO Box
PO Box 612680, San Jose, CA 95161-2680

Maybe consider writing them a letter and letting them know how unsatisfied with their current business practices you are.

I'm very thankful I didn't spend that much on Gaia Cash itself, and that uni was too busy to make me have to go AWOL from the site for more than 2 years, not that I was any inclined to spend more than the amount I've staggered over the span of 2 years (probably somewhere less than US$200? Aah how I love and miss the gaia I used to know; I had joined somewhere around late 2007, and even then, some 2003/2004-ers had already found changes with the site, but GC items, expensive as they were for me, were already AFFORDABLE at their 2010 pricing, compared to the abomination they are now.

Just the idea that Gaia itself released gold generating items is probably the largest contributor to the in-game economy just crashing like that. I thought they were firmly against the idea, before?

It boils down to corporate greed, corporate greed, and corporate greed. Compare the old "About Us" page for Gaia, and the new. It's too... corporate-y now. I know many people were not contented with the management of Derek (?) or whoever followed him before the current senior management (if there was someone between the original founders and the current management of Gaia Interactive,) but Club Verge and all the other things I've come back to -- wow.

I've managed to even do a huge clearing of my wishlist, not only because I no longer want the times, but also because their prices have been so unstable that I don't see myself ever getting them, even if I sold my entire account (and its measly account worth.)

I'll even let you in a secret -- the largest amount of gold I've ever handled without reselling a GC item was roughly 250k, simply from questing and zOMG! It's a shame; I loved zOMG! when I was tried of Shin Megami Tensei and my other MMOs. Now, I find solace in browser-based text-only MMOs.

I'll still be here for a while, perhaps. But I haven't bought Gaia Cash in 3 years, and I never will. I'm not kidding here, thankfully I don't really have emotional investment (read: friends) who still play the site anymore. Okay, I have one friend, but I'm not sure she still plays -- she is active elsewhere, though.

Heck, I want to distance myself from GC items released before my long hiatus, but I specifically want certain items I won't mention (because I find it embarrassing to beg) because 1) I'm from and live in the Philippines and have relatives who were affected direly by Typhoon Haian -- I channeled my effort and money directly to the people of Leyte though, rather than through a middleman, 2) I really like x, because I am also x, 3) the rest of the items I left in there are older items I've had in my WL for up to 4 years, for legacy purposes.

Oh, and I sign -- you can add me if you wish, and are not obligated to quote me. I'm not likely to read it in a timely manner, anyhow. :'D

I bought some GC a few days ago so I could get gold to buy some Art in the forums but now I refuse to do so ever again. Gaia has changed so much since '04 and it kind of upsets me quite a bit!

There are SO many pages it's starting to hurt to keep reading looking for clarification, and the search didn't help to weed through, so I need clarification on this:

"Make hoarding of large quantities of premium items a bannable offense. A serious warning system would have to be in place."

Because I do not approve of threatening users who pick up multiple items for their avatar being threatened into keeping only 1 maybe if they're lucky 2. I spent a lot of gold back when the Captain Ara's nestegg first came out to procure 4 of them because I needed all four for my avatar (I still have them should I chose to go back and wear that avatar again. Which I do, this is the 3rd time I've switched back to this current Avatar), I also have Three of the Yokai treasures for the same reason.

I ask for this clarification because large quantities of premium items is a vague term. large quantities could be 3+. I just want to make sure the users who are collecting items for avatars past, present, or future are not harmed because of vague demands.

I know they worded it badly but I think they meant more along the lines of people buying every single listing of an item that pops up when it is low so they can force inflation of said item on the MP. Kinda like how I know as a fact there are plenty of lovely lucies out there and yet they are uber inflated thanks to people "hoarding" them.

I recently came back to Gaia a few days ago for Role Playing purposes. And wow... Let me just say.... WOW. The initial reason I left Gaia five years ago was because it was becoming to "Cash" orientated. That was five years ago, and now that I have returned I am appalled and disgusted at what Gaia has become. Its the Neopets scandal all over again!
I remember back in the day every other update was about PLOT, GAMES, and GOLD SHOP UPDATES. Now, I've only been back on Gaia for a week and I've seen over 20 updates involving Cash orientated games and items.
What happened!? We used to be a fun little community that loved to play games and chat with one another. Now all I'm seeing is people crawling over one another with their wallets open ready to pay for their next pixelated item! Why anyone would actually want to pay REAL money for fake clothes confuses the hell out of me.

Five years ago I left for Subeta. Now that I've returned, I'm quite disgusted, and wish I would have never opened that new tab on Firefox to see what was happening here. Its so sad. I used to love this site with all my heart, I used to participate in the plots, play the games, and meet new friends. Now Gaia is just a shadow of its former self, and it pains me to look at it even. What happened Gaia? What happened to make you so soulless?

It worries me, because if this happened to Neopets, now Gaia... Will this problem happen to my beloved Subeta as well? Only time will tell I suppose. gaia_nitemareright

That's very noble of you because I think that takes a lot of restraint.
But is that to say that you don't have any or that you have some but won't buy any more?

Because while I really dislike how cash orientated they have become (with spamannouncements and constant "exclusives" being the most obvious mark)- they still have a few cash items I like.
