And on another note, I'm pretty sure a majority of Gaia "employees" are volunteers who don't get paid, and the some of the lower ones who do get paid very little.
This still is a FREE social media site, so how many people do you honestly think are on their payroll, hm?

Woah. Okay. Where exactly does this assumption come from because you are flat out wrong.
Are you a Gaia employee?
Do you know other Gaia employees?

From all the mods and forum assistants I've ever talked to, they were all volunteer.
I've never actually met a single person on this site who gets paid, so what else should I think?

Oh. No, mods and FAs are volunteers because they AREN'T employees.

Nobody of the caliber of artist or developer that it takes to run and create a site like this would work for free out of the goodness of their heart when there's paying jobs available.
Well I don't know how many paying jobs are really available these days... xD

Those that spend bc are helping keep this site alive.

You have no clue what the hell you're talking about.

ALL the cash they make goes to the new site, they were doing just fine staying alive without all this BS.
Conspiracy theorist much? stare

How can ALL of the money go to the new site when they first have to pay the employees and the bills?

omg you cannot be ...

You're thinking of the moderators. Those people aren't paid.
i'm talking about the artists and developers who DO get paid for the work they do. By suggesting that these people deserve to lose their jobs, you vilify them wrongfully.

So let me be on the record here to state, bluntly, that you are extraordinarily cruel to the innocent of this whole problem. They can only do what needs to be done or else they breach contract and can no longer be paid.
-le sigh-
You keep saying I'm saying they deserve to lose their jobs, but I'm not.
I'm saying a company who wants to teach such awful consumerism to our youth maybe should be shut down.
Sorry one has to coincide with the other, but in all honesty I just want Gaia to change.

Thanks for acknowledging the rest of my other post. =]

ummm.... i agree with sodium on this. they do get paid. they're a company in california. it STARTED kinda that way, when lanzer and his friends first started the site, but it's most definitely a paid company now.

Everyone's just throwing out theories.

Because Gaia is not a publicly traded company, they don't have to disclose any data.

How many paid employees do they have? How many are part time or full time?

None of us will know.

But just because an entity is a company does not mean they have a lot of employees. There are 1 person corporations too (single member LLCs).

It isn't a theory that they're paying their employees. Gaia is not staffed by volunteers or slaves. I guess they might have a couple unpaid interns.

The exact number of employees may not be known but I can think of at least five off the top of my head. And

Are you stupid? Most of gaia staff doesn't even get paid. They're volunteers.
Very few people are on their payroll and YES, the money IS going to their sister site and to the damn CEO.

That doesn't excuse your misidentification of site moderators (volunteers) as employees of the site by any means. If such were true, I'd be owed money for my stint with the beta testing group. confused

Nor are the artists and developers volunteers .They went to school for that skill, they should get paid for their efforts and talent (don't get started on bugs and crashes - every developer faces at least ONE bug problem).

Again, this condemnation and boycott would actually bring serious problems to Gaia's employees who actually make sure this site stays attractive and, well, running.
I wont be buying anymore

Are you a gaia employee?
I don't think so. Your name is color coded.
Most of the Moderators and Forum assistants I've come across are all volunteers.
Gaia has even mentioned when they advertise "hiring".
Just sayin'.
Artists and Developers I can see being paid.

Thanks for answering your own question. emotion_eyebrow

Mods and FAs are NOT employees. They are people sitting at home doing this on their own time. They have jobs and families and DO NOT represent Gaia beyond the enforcement of the TOS.

They still have permissions and access to other parts of the site that we do not. (ie moving threads, locking threads)
So to say they aren't staff, I think is wrong.
Would you call interns non staff members? Not all interns are paid afterall. However they're still acknowledged as a staff member in some form. After years of of reading the dev notices now called staff notices, doesn't seem like there are that many developers/artists as there are the volunteers. So again, how many people would you think are on their payroll?
I was more or less curious. Not saying I disagree with you or anything. You made a comment. I'm asking you to elaborate.

You, along with From Love, are thinking of MODERATORS who are not members of the Gaia Interactive staff.

That's it. I cannot take this amount of ignorance. I am disgusted.

Purples and greens are volunteers, orange and brown are paid.

As far as numbers go, the best I could find was this snippet on their corporate page:
"Located in North San Jose, we're the South Bay's biggest social/mobile gaming company."

Of course, that could mean that there's no other gaming companies in South Bay, and it does refer to Gaia Interactive rather than Gaia Online.
Thank you. This was informative and I appreciate it. =]

Because it's the employees fault their boss messed up. question
Not their fault at all, It is still a reap what you sow situation. If the higher ups push it, it happens, and the consequences are suffered. The employment of people in the company or lack there of is just a sad biproduct.

Pay no mind to those three, I've seen them around Site Feedback enough to know that they'll argue and argue and argue on Gaia's behalf in order to derail a thread into non-concessional babbling. When they can't defend Gaia, they'll cherry pick from posts to try and argue their points. It's pointless really and all you can do is agree to disagree with them.
