I actually just looked for the first time at the inflation in the MP....
holy hell.

I assumed it was bad, but I looked up some of my items to see what they were going for...insanity. I think one of the EI's I have, which I bought with gold after the release craze died down & the gold price went down, was Keiko's Cake or something of that nature. It was pretty reasonably priced, 400K i believe....now it is around 4.4 million. Sheesh. I truly won't be sorry to see Flynn's fat a** (oh, pardon me, booty. my mistake ;3) leave & hopefully never return.

I acquired my hoard of gold the old fashioned way; buying literally nothing ever & then playing zOMG when it was released XD You can still make a few million, over time of course, but it's so...cheap to simply buy an item & get instant gold. Pft. Where is the fun in any of that? It's like a very poor impression of the lottery (despite the fact with this everyone wins, I guess). Probably the most pathetic, uncreative item release that I have seen from Gaia within its entire history. Give us money, we give you fake internet gold money. Honestly. The concept behind this...complete idiocy within the imagination department.

I wasn't sure what the price was before inflation. But it's absurd either way.

Bibliophile

A few weeks ago Faustine's Bottle was around 2 mil, maybe slightly over.

Now I've saved up to 4.5 mil and I still can't buy it. Every time I get just enough gold to buy it, it's already gone up by half a mil again. I just don't get how Gaia can keep denying this inflation. In AtA they stated that they have to work for the gold on their accounts just like us, how do you not notice the inflation, then? Are these people even using their accounts?

This is such a great freaking thread. I love this thread. Now onto the issue at hand:

A big problem is: If Gaia wants to be a more money focused site, I am going into the ToS, editing it, and sending them back the copy I agree with. If anyone on this site spends more than $100 over the course of a month, then Gaia should be responsible for a refund at least 50% of money spent upon an accounts involuntary banning from the site, should it so happen. This is regardless of reason barring someone making real money from the site or legitimately making threats (like killing and maiming, not general sputter of profanities) against another users life or beliefs. Money is not a thing to mess lightly with, and Gaia is doing just that.

Hey, stopping into rant a little bit - excuse me if I'm out of line.

        I'm pissed.

I'm pissed because Gaia was always my favourite site because the community was great, the admins were great, and it was the sort of site where you could be a total noob and still manage to get somewhere. When I first started, it was for the games. This was pre-zOMG - back in the era of jigsaw and fishing. I loved those games - I still do, and will occasionally stop in to play them. This new game? It's not fair. I loved the fact that games were a way for gaians to make gold - now this clicky-tetris-weird-thing not only allows only people who are willing to spend money to profit from it, making it practically a waste of time to any users who can't afford to drop a few dollars for a game they probably won't win anyways. It's not cool, to state it frankly.

There's also the (obvious) issue of inflation. I have been questing since June - a marginally short period, compared to some - and right now I am at "only" 5m. Back in '08 I wouldn't have even imagined that amount of gold possible! Mind you, I'm one of the "working" members of gaia - at around 20-30k a graphic layout, I have a bit of an advantage over people who can't draw, code, or do graphics. Even then, it's only because of countless donations from both charities and friends that I'm at that amount. A week ago, I was ecstatic to find I was "only" 3m away. Checking the marketplace now, I am at least 10m away because Gaia decided to re-release the item. Now, if the price they released it at was reasonable - like 1000gc, the price it would have been a half a decade ago - then it would have probably helped me. People buying it cheap creates an influx of items which can promote the prices lowering. No, instead Gaia put a FIFTY DOLLAR ******** price tag on it.

Please, somebody, can you confirm that this is still a pg13 website? As in, a website geared towards children? At 13 I got like 100$ every three weeks from a paper route! And that 100$ was for everything I wanted - books, sweets, movies, going out to lunch with friends - when all was said and done I was doing extra chores to try to keep up with everything! Most kids don't have paper routes! Where are the 13 year olds getting enough cash to support this "economy"?!

The simple answer is they're not. While in the forums every first stickied post will be a mod saying "this site is pg13 so mind your language and content", they don't really care about the kids on this site. What they care about now is the wallets of the older members, and the wallets of parents that think it's alright to drop up to a hundred dollars for a pixeled pair of wings. Isn't that brilliant? Please note the extreme sarcasm in that last statement.

Recently I designed a few new tektek's for new quests, since I was 3m (more than half way) to completing my goal. This avatar has only six items, but the estimated value is at over 24m. What? And then the avatar I fell in love with (like so many others who have the misfortune of falling in love on tektek to have their hopes dashed) is a wopping 43+m. And even when you make an effort to buy cheap, it's difficult when a simple wig can come to over 11m (SDPlus #446 Princess Merina) or items like the Angelic Halo, which is currently 1'427'999'999 gold for the cheapest price - a ridiculous 4'000'000'000 being the highest of three listings. I know that part of the problem is the users themselves - the marketplace has always been sorta unstable because of people overpricing and then others crazy underpricing to try to sell faster - but there is no way that the Gaia staff is not at least partially responsible for the influx.

I feel the need to randomly reiterate: PG 13 WEBSITE.

GAIA: CHILDREN ARE NOT MADE OF MONEY.

I used to love the marketplace and the currency system. Even with the GC, it was a great way to teach kids how to save up for things that they wanted. Whether it be saving their allowance to get a $10 or $25 GC card instead of a $5 card, or questing and working for gold for an item, it was actually reasonable to quest and work hard. Now the only way to get anywhere on Gaia is blow a full paycheck from a part-time wage on overpriced items and sell them, be a brilliant artist who can charge over a mil for a drawing, or be somebody who is willing to zOMG and booty-grab full time - something that's increasingly more difficult now that Gaia seems to have little interest in those aspects of the site now. It doesn't feel like gaia cares about the users anymore, and that really depresses me - but look on the bright side. At least kids will now learn from a gaming website that, in the real world, people are greedy. People will take advantage of you, they will walk all over you, and they will rob you nude and blind. Good life lesson there, Gaia. Thanks for it.

It was about 2.2billion before they re-released it for $1,000.00 in the cash shop during a sale they had.

Right now it's very deflated,1.4billion is nothing compared to it's usual price that it had for years.
Gaia devalued the s**t out of the rarest item on the site.

...What if...we just stopped wanting stuff so much? That we can't like afford. Then when stuff doesn't sell at all whether it be cash shop or marketplace they'll stop pushing so hard for the monies in rl and start listening up better? It's just a thought.

inb4 someone bites my head off

twas an option not a demand.

Well, that's sorta what boycotting is, in a way.
When they boycotted the busses in the civil revolution it wasn't "RANSACK AND MAIM"
(In fact, for the most part, it was the authority figures causing the problems that resorted to violence)

Boycotting the busses meant choosing to walk instead of ride, and they walked in the masses - that was why it worked. By boycotting GC it's essentially not buying what we can't afford or what we feel costs too much - it's not saying get rid of GC; it's saying stop enabling this until it's fixed.

Sorry if somebody already responded, but I just wanted to make sure you understood XD the term "boycotting" sounds so aggressive... but it really just means "Withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organization, or person [in this case, organization]) as a punishment or protest [in this case, protest]."

Too true. The 500k was due to when the angelic halo was somehow hacked by some girl and started dumping them in the MP for incredibly low prices several years ago. The girl was caught and banned and the staff took back the cloned halos. Since then, no halo has been sold in the MP. However, at 1.4 billion, that's the lowest LBP I've seen in the longest time. The MP graphs don't even register any activity, but 500k is definitely never the real going rate for that item.
Funny thing though. It seems to be the only 03 that's deflating. I guess, it's because it's the only 03 being released several times over the last three months.
I quit Gaia already and moved onto Syndroneonline. It is a smaller community, but the workers interact with us and they try their best to keep us happy and fix as many things that are still wrong with the site as soon as they can wih their small amount of employees. It's not even a year old, so really hope they don't give away their site to new management and ******** things up for them....
