Heya everyone!

I've gotten a few messages from you all and I want to be clear here: We're thrilled to have your feedback whether or not you are willing to white-list Gaia and watch ads on Gaia or not. It's all good, I swear! We just wanted to ask you if you would consider it - can't hurt to ask, right?

And we are also glad to be hearing your feedback on ads you like, ads you dislike, and how ads affects your online experience. This is super helpful for the team that handles ads, to we sincerely appreciate the insights you are providing us. 3nodding

The only ads I can't stand are ones that if you roll over them, they pop out and start playing some movie. Or any that play sound or are movies. Any others are good. smile
reason i keep ads blocked is cause viruses like to hide in em and if you cant 100% promise me i won't get a warning virus message when a random ad pops up i will keep adblock up

I know it's probably a little off-topic, but, while they might not be inapropriate ads, can we report those which starts a video, sound or even a pop-up (which isn't nessary a real old one) by inadvertly placing our mouse above them? Personally, it's the kind of ad which I find really annoying -- especially on the dressup page where it's easy to do it while using the items scrollbar sweatdrop

I can always forward along feedback on ad types to the team that works with advertisers! If there are any in particular that are problematic for you, please let me know biggrin

Thanks for the info - glad to hear about ads that annoy you! I'll pass this onto the team that handles ads. Maybe there are things we can do to try and avoid these types of ads biggrin

You're doing it wrong. From what I've seen, people download adblock because they want to block ads from view.

What you need to do is provide people with incentives for keeping adblock off. The random item ad that gave away a unique item for having ads on (if you caught the ad) was a good stab at providing an incentive but you went about that the wrong way too.

You need to give people the opportunity to collect points to build up to something so that they keep their viewing of ads constant and feel that there is a game-like aspect to it that isn't hopelessly based on chance (to get a good item).

Maybe asking people to disable adblock for Gaia will help boost your ad revenue for a short while but people will go back to using adblock if the message isn't shoved in their face every couple of days.

in sum my advice is to give ad viewing more of a game like aspect - give it a scavenger hunt element that builds up to a reward every X number of retrieved Ys or something.

a stick needs a carrot in order to get the donkey to move

Thanks for the suggestion! biggrin

Honestly, yes ads are annoying, however, i would rather deal with a few ads then be forced to become a member, for those who hate the ads and can afford to pay, maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a membership package.
Alot of people don't seem to realize that sites that are free to the user, usually require alot of money to pay for updating, tech work, servers and web-hosting for starters. I know how hard it is to script a site, it takes alot of work and many hours of fixing. so keep the ads, the work that has been put into the site in my opinion is well worth it.

Thanks for the feedback! We totally respect your desire to keep Adblock on. Thanks for sharing your concerns about ads though - it's good info to have biggrin

..if there was a way/someone to scan the ads? for viruses and other bad things/not allow them to be edited once accepted/on gaia, then it would be worth allowing them..

I have my ads disabled, as I always have, so I would like to put forward a suggestion.
I recall awhile back that Gaia offered a chance of receiving free items (The Edwardian set I believe, though I'm unsure of other items that may have been given through this event). I found this to be extremely effective, especially since it presented a chance at receiving desirable items. I think that reviving this ad-tactic would be a wonderful way to promote the disabling of ads.

Alright everyone, it is time for me to head home! I have to be up at 4am for my Crossfit training tomorrow which means I need my sleep! Just letting you know that if I don't respond this evening to your posts, it is not because I don't care what you have to say or because I am ignoring you! I do care, and I want to hear your opinions, but I just have to rest before my trainer completely hands it to me tomorrow morning! xd

Night night Gaia - be well! 3nodding

I must agree with this.
I don't mind the others because the don't really intrude over any of the materials of Gaia Online. But the ones that you may accidentally roll over and creates a gigantic screen and starts playing a video, that annoys me.
Aw dude, I really appreciate you guys, but I'll only do that if they're text ads only. Which they definitely aren't.

I one time got this horrid virus from an ad on Gaia, something win32.exe (I know it was from the ad because the page was taking forever to load, but only the ad was loading) and it was impossible to kill. It regenerated itself all the time.

So unless you have text only ads, I'm just not up for the gamble. *pat pat*
