I don't know if anyone brought this up, but you can set your profile to hidden.
That way only people on your friends list can see your posts.

Not so. Even if your profile is set to private, users can still access your post history by replacing your account number in the correct url.

It doesn't even have to be that complicated.

That's all it takes, if your profile's blocked.

So its more likely that person B is the one to end up in hot water, and if you feel someone is underhanded enough to do such a thing you can alsways block them. I am aware mules could be used but the person would be fairly going out of their way with that
Having someone on your ignoredlist doesn't block them from viewing your posts, only your profile.

All someone has to do to view your posts is get your usernumber (Which they can by going to your profile page, they can't see your actual profile but the URL is still there), and stick it on the end of the post search URL. http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/myposts/
I definitely can sympathize with the purpose of this thread, but I disagree with making post history completely invisible for a number of reasons.

First off, I run a mini-shop where people post order forms in my thread. My shop gains pages at a fairly fast clip, so order forms get buried pretty quickly. Unfortunately, sometimes my shop staff doesn't always save the orders, and it'll be about a week later when I realize that someone who is sending me a trade does not have a corresponding order in our records. The post history search is invaluable to me here - it may take a little digging around, but it does allow me to retrieve a person's lost order rather than going back and meticulously searching 50+ pages of my thread.

Secondly, don't you think a system like this would be abused by spammers and flamers? If people had the option to completely hide their post history, someone could hop from forum to forum annoying people. If someone who is thinking about reporting said flamer is able to see the flamer's post history, it makes it that much easier to recognize the trend in the person's behavior and report them.

(On a related note, I actually caught an art thief who was stealing graphics from my shop and others this way. At first I only knew about the graphics she had stolen from me. While I was willing to let the infraction slide because she seemed honestly ignorant, I examined her post history and discovered she had posted in several other shops that she had also stolen graphics from. I was able to inform those shop owners of the art theft as well because I was able to examine the girl's post history.)

In short, I think having the option to completely hide your post history is a little unfair and invites potential for abuse. What I think is more reasonable is if you had the option to limit your viewable post history to a certain range of time - say, a month, a week, etc. That way people who would like to see your post history for more honorable reasons can actually do so, but the people who just want to get you banned for something you said three months ago are out of luck.

It's really awful that people post-stalk like that, though. I had no idea some people are such poor losers. :/

Wow. Sorry for the long post. sweatdrop

Precisely, there are valuable uses of the post history feature besides just stalking.

Oh, I know there are more uses to it that are good. That's why I didn't make the thread going POST HISTORY SUCKS AND EVERYTHING IS BAD LOLZ. The option to change would be nice. Some privacy would be nice.
No, If you didn't want to get banned or warned for it, you shouldn't have said it in the first place. There are too many foul mouthed kids running around here, why allow them to say whatever they want within a fast moving thread without it ever coming back to them. If you have a problem with something you said previously, you can always go back later and edit it. Unless someone has quoted you, nobody will be the wiser.

Looking at post history can let you know if what they're saying now has any relevence. It can also be used to determine if an account has been recently stolen, or when someone was last active since you can see what, and when they posted last. Additionally, it can be used to alert mods about people posting spam, scams, adverts, or other things across multiple forums, when the single instances might go unnoticed.

If you have a problem with people stalking you, just don't give them reason to. Think before posting.

Some very good points there.
One thing I can add though, is you already have some degree of control over how far back your post history goes.
There is a limit on your post history, based on number of posts rather than the passage of time. I usually post around an amount that sets my post history limit at about two months ago. Posting more often will shorten the limit.

Even the option to hide your post history would prevent people from using post history for honourable reasons such as those Iyou pointed out, mainly as it's those posting dishonourably that will hide their post history.
It's best the way it is, open for all but with a post limit.
I don't even have to read the reasons to say "Yes, I agree." The reasons are flat out common sense, more on the privacy thing.
I want to be the only person able to read my post history.

I could go for seeing the post within a week or two at max. Leaving it open like this however is being abused right now. Whether or not to completely hide it is debatable but I seriously want this to get looked into.

Post stalkers suck. I'll admit I've had a few rude ones. ~~
There is more way to look at other post history than the profile? Wow....

I 100% agree.
I agree!! I want to be able to hide my posts from everyone. Just like with friends, or comments, I want to choose if the public, my friends, or no one can see them

DUDE WHAT THE ********.
This just happened to me.
On Monday I had gotten a three day ban because I was 'flaming' someone, even though he came to me first with a completely unprovoked attack.
However, tell it to me straight - is it flaming when you call someone a hypocritical ******** when they're going on about how it's wrong to use hurtful insults and derogatory terms, and when you explain your view calmly, they turn around and call you a 'stupid b***h'?

The post was made some two weeks prior.

I support.
