Its a good idea it might work but would definitely see a good decrease in voters, but on the other hand that might be good too since users craving for gold will stay away from the arena.
I support this Disable gold giving in the arena's now.
i agree with the OP.

bots have wrecked the arenas.

my friend won the housing arena a few weeks ago and he still had trouble sifting out meaningful opinions from all the dreck.

and i got 27th in the avi arena which is ok, but most comments were just repetitious drivel from new accounts with names like oboy28624 or mewfish94681653

so i would gladly forgo any gold getting in the arenas, in order to be rid of this nuisance.

Taking away gold will NOT stop bots from continuing to do something. This should be obvious, given the fact that many users still receive PMs from hello!bots.

I do, however, believe that removing gold will lower the number of bots. It would make the most sense to do this for the actual voting, seeing as those actually have an impact on the arena. Comment spam - while annoying - is just that. An annoyance.

I never believed for a moment the bots would disappear if gold was taken away from the arena. I still get the hello bots but nowhere near as often now the gold has been taken away.

The bots only comment and they don't vote (at this time) so taking away the gold for commenting would help reduce them while the admins try and find a solution to the problem.
Less gold means lack of a motivation to comment even if you have something to say. Gold is a big reason why people vote in the arenas.

Gold shouldn't be the reason you rate/comment in the Arenas though, really if people only go to comment/rate for gold then the Arenas can do without them. The Bot comments are bad enough but those people who just "asfd" in comments for gold are just as bad.

You'd get more gold by commenting on people's profiles and bumping in the Chatterbox anyway.

You have to try and see the bigger picture than just your gold count next to your name.
If you believe that someone is botting report them to the nearest moderator. They can find out if they bot and then ban them. 3nodding

Who are to decide what people do with their accounts? If people vote for the gold then its really none of your business. Its not for you to decide whether you think people want their vote or not.

You who have been reborn

I agree. It's totally ridiculous - I submitted a House to the Housing Arena once, and every reply except about once per page was by a bot.

Did you have a point to make about getting rid of gold in the arena, or did you just want to get your troll on?

GinoLeTV - we do report them but these people make 50 bots a day just to get the gold. We users can't get them all and Gaia doesn't have a new system to stop them yet.
Yes, yes PLEASE.

Almost every comment is a bot. ><;
What if Gaia were to do like at YouTube? The ability to have comments filtered by forcing them to go through approval of the person who uploaded the video. Or in this case, all comments go through the person entered in the arena. The feature can be turned off or on of course.

I'm trying to find an easy route for the admins, this might be a lot of work for them. Work I'd rather they do on finding a system to combat the bots.

Well before the gold gain system change, you could not get gold from the Avatar Arena.
The only gold which you got was from clicking on links to go to the next entry and that was what you also got when you moved around the forums.

Since there is a bot problem in the Arena, they should take away gold gain again.

The only problem is that whenever gold gets put into a feature, all the users think that the gold is great and will be there forever and if the users do not get their gold then they will moan about it all over the Site Feedback forum.

Tipsy Roisterer

True. But then again Gaia will just bring out a new feature and they'll start bitching about that instead xd

But then people would just allow the comments which say "Your avatar is great heart "

confused

Well if taking away the gold from the arena will stop the bots then...Sure.
