Welcome to Gaia! ::

User ImageAll I have to say, is that I'm glad I didn't buy more mermaids and turtles before this happened like I was planning on doing. Now I can save my money.

I'm pretty sure they nerfed it too. While we can understand why they might do it, that doesn't make it tactful. Once people have already invested real money it's wrong to go in and say it's just "too bad" and jip them of their expectations. Furthermore Gaia, as per usual, goes about doing it completely wrong. Isn't it nice how they never actually tell us anything factual? The most they do is say they're making changes; never mentioning what they really are changing (you have to search just for this). But seeing as how we aren't blind, it's evident it's a negative effect. Just a plain lack of tact and them trying to cover things up quickly due to them not forseeing this problem.

Maybe they should think of alternative routes to alter the economy in a positive direction instead of screwing a lot of people over by taking a path that's easiest for them.

The Gaian gold inflation was ruining the enjoyment for other users. Nerfing booty grab was the best solution to this.

And sorry, but I find it difficult to be sympathetic to anyone dishing out hundreds of dollars for virtual fish.

But they raised how much gold you get per post? They should've nerfed that! 50 gold, 24 gold, et c., when all you have to do is type in a letter and click "Submit?"

And people dished out hundreds of dollars because they had the money to spare. It's like saying you have no sympathy for someone who bought a thousand dollar pet only for it to get run over by a car.

The problem is the number of people that bought so many high-end fish and stuffed ads many as they could into their tanks. And then there are those who got overwhelmuingly excited about it that they spent all their time grabbin almost exclusively instead of doing other things between times.

Its OUR fault for all this really. (did I say this already? I dont remember now)

And yes, they DID nerf the time factor in glow-activations too. They really really wanna slow all this gold down. Too much too fast is bad bad bad. They did not expect us to go overboard with this.

Myself, I have high-yeild AND low-yield fish in my tanks. (alter account has mostly low-yield cause I LOVE cuttlefish)
The problem with using real $ to purchase virtual goods on Gaia is that the customers members have no control over the items that they have purchased. Up until recently, the customers members have placed their trust and good faith into Gaia to honor those purchases. Gaia can (and obviously now will!) make changes to those virtual goods at their whim after the purchase has been made.

(EIs aside because in this case, changes are expected and anticipated. It is understood before the transaction takes place that this item will change)

Aside form the possible Legal Issues, Gaia ought to be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of their members (many who are under-aged children) who have placed their trust (and $) in Gaia.

I certainly hope that Gaia will endeavor to correct this mistake. By doing so, this will show that this was unintentional. Otherwise, I am going to be thinking very long and very hard before I make another purchase from here again.
*sigh*

Sections 16, 17, and 18 of the Terms of Service are pretty clear on the lack of implied warranty. In other words, Gaia has not provided a warranty. Every time you log in, you agree to this.

Gaia allows purchase, not of the items, but of its members' use of the items insofar as they are members of the site and insofar as the accounts the items are attached to are active (so, banned accounts have no further rights to the items, since they are no longer active accounts, eh? but I digress...). In other words, you pay to use them on Gaia, as long as your account is active, not to own them outright.

Furthermore, Gaia doesn't say "You can have this item, in perpetuity, and as long as we make it, it's always gonna function the same way."

The mermaids and other fish still swim, and they still spit gold at you. Gaia never said "This fish will always give this amount, and that fish will always give that amount, and that pixelated clam at the bottom there will never give you repetitive items." That's part of what 'no warranty' means.

In other words, it's their stuff, and yes, they can do what they want with it. What they decided to do, to curb inflation (and yes, it was out of control, and still is), was to lessen the amount of gold going into the economy. No one says you have to like it, and that's what Site Feedback is for, I understand completely. But threatening legal action (for which there is no basis) against an online forum because you didn't get the amount of online currency you were hoping for comes across as petulant.

Jadyd hit the nail on the head. Unfair changes? To many Gaians, including myself, the answer is probably "yes". But all we can do is suggest ideas and express our opinions here with hope that there might be a better change.

"Gaia may charge fees for the right to use Gold, or may distribute Gold without charge, in its sole discretion. Regardless of terminology used, Gold represents a limited license right governed solely under these Terms, has no real value, and is not transferable or redeemable for any sum of money or monetary value from Gaia at any time. You agree that Gaia has the absolute right to reduce, manage, regulate, control, modify and/or eliminate Gold as it sees fit in its sole discretion, and that Gaia will have no liability to you based on its exercise of such rights."

Its okay. I kind of like the 200g only kind of thing though. I think it helps inflation by alot(Or a little amount >> ) The hard to find Booties aren't that bad though since I found enough to get 4k in less then 30min/1hour.

Right on. In no way will I allow this change to affect my Booty Grab gameplay. Its too much fun and I have met some really nice people in the Aquarium forum. 3nodding
You know the "5 Pages of Epic Tanks" that was in the aquarium forum before? The thread is closed now, even though you could still booty grab there. Even before the nerf, I sometime only get 1~2 triggers out of 7 pages. (The OP of that thread said that the tanks on pages 6 and 7 are also pretty epic) So I doubt the nerf really have much of an effect on the trigger rate of the tanks, it's more about luck.
So the governmental and legal systems no longer apply to us once we click on the Log In button.
Interesting. lol

Ah well.
I've more important things to do ATM. biggrin

Who threatened legal action???

That was another user, in another thread -- however, going about researching the various laws that don't may not even apply, and linking them in every thread that talks about the Booty Grab non-situation isn't exactly being passive, either. Just sayin'

Anyway, Gaia is and remains a privately owned company, sponsorships notwithstanding, and so, while certain laws do apply, they are able to set their own rules, as have been laid out in the Terms of Service, and have been illustrated here by a few people.

In case it wasn't clear, roughly translated from legalese, it says that by continuing to use Gaia, you agree to whatever Terms they've laid out.

It is what it is.
Booty grab gives out just as much gold now as it did a week ago.
It gave out more gold for a couple of days following a performance boost that made people with slower computers able to get all the coins. We adjusted it down a little bit, but it gives out just as much gold as it did a week ago.

The following graph (scale removed) shows the average gold earned by an aquarium owner in the past couple of months. As you can see, aquarium gives just as much as it did a week ago.
