This world is the dwelling place for two beings, the Goddess named Xenia and the Dark Tree (Caliboris). The Goddess is wholesome and wishes the best for the people of the Planet and gains her powers simply through the faith of the populance, while the perverted Darkness takes it power through brainwashing the weak hearted and corrupting the strong willed, infecting their minds and bodies with evil.

A very long time ago, the two great living forces laid down a treaty in order to keep each other from destroying the planet they lived on. This agreement states that each force cannot make any overt action towards the other, and whoever eventually gains control over the planet and it's populace wins the right of way and the other is forced to fade away. The truce was maintained for a long time, both sides keeping to themselves and not really taking any moves to gain any power... until recently.

The Dark has begun to encroach on the Goddess' lands and people, due to the deaths of the villains in other worlds, who have given themselves to the powers of the Dark Tree just before their deaths, which take place nearly at the same time. These villains are to be the Darkness' advocates, as the darkness in their souls is sewn through and it cannot be purified by the light of the Goddess' crystals. They are the only ones who can help the Dark Tree destroy the Goddess and her crystals.

The Dark resides in a large, mangled looking tree suspended between two isles near the 'ends of the world', and it's large roots spread out all over the planet. Areas that the darkness has touched are enshrouded in mist and those who have been corrupted or infected with the roots of darkness become rash and evil individuals, their goal being to destroy anything relating to the Goddess, her crystals, and what is "good" in the world.

In order to get the help she so desperately needed, the Goddess began to reach out and take heroes from the worlds the villains had come from, those who had vanquished them before in hopes that they will be able to do it again and save her planet from the ever-spreading darkness. Unfortunately, her powers were not widespread enough to take all of the heroes at once, only taking a few at a time or as many as she can every once in awhile.

The taken heroes seemingly disappear from their everyday lives on their home worlds and are brought onto the Goddess' planet and are lead to reside in a mansion laid out for them on the outskirts of a village. The Goddess' powers are so drained from the taking of heroes, that she cannot directly tell them of her need and therefor the heroes are left in the dark until everything comes together and their purpose is revealed.

One day, Kefka came around and caused strife and turmoil. He had a plan to use the various summon spirits to further Caliboris' plans, and also to stir up the heroes. Reno overheard his plans, and told everyone else. Thus, everyone decided to split into two groups, One group would stay at the mansion, and protect it from Kefka/any other bad guys, and to also greet any new Heroes that may come (Home Team), and the other group would travel the world looking for the summon spirits (Away Team). The Away team has been fairly successful, finding two summons, while the Home team has been having trouble with Rufus, who thinks all of the people from his world, (Tifa, Reno) Are fakes, and this is all some evil plot. He's escaped to the town, and Tifa and Reno are following.

10- If you haven't received a PM within a few days of your sending in an application. (Or not. PLEASE realize that if you don't send in an application, and just PM requesting to be a character, you will NOT be acknowledged.) You were most likely rejected, probably because you failed to read the whole first page.
11- Only special people and villains get the choice of a second character. In fact, people who choose to play a villain who will not be very active are encouraged to take up a hero character role, for the sake of activity.
12- To prove you read the first page, please include 'snoffleglomp' in bold blue font in your application anywhere. This is to assure you'll be dedicated and pay attention to our rules and such.
13. Please keep post styles to a minimum. You can pretty up your post, but do not make it overly crowded or extravagant. You will be asked to remove it if it is seen as anything but simple. Also, please do not use font colours that are generally unreadable, just because you can read lime green font, doesn't mean the rest of the thread can, or even want to. This goes the same way for overly large and minuscule font sizes.
14. It's the quality of a post, not how long it is, that matters.

Melodies of Life takes place in a world apart from the world your character is from. This is a world of new and different obstacles, terrain, magic and summons.

A local map, showing the features of the mansion and the chocobo barn and shed. To choose a room for your character, please PM Teefie with your request. Sketches of new floors will be added if necessary. The mansion is decorated in a humble style, with warm colours and the occasional painting on the wall. The study has hundreds of books and the kitchen is well-to-do. Each bedroom is approximately the same size, despite any irregularities in the map above. There is about a three mile hike between the house and the pond/woods around. Surrounding the mansion until the woods is grassland and just before the woods on the west side of the house is a meadow with many different kinds of wildflowers.

The summon system in this new world works a little differently than in most other worlds. Summon spirits work generally like they do in Final Fantasy IV and they are powerful entities like the Goddess Xenia and the Dark Tree, but are much less powerful. They're basically the demigods of this world and can choose who they lend their powers to and which side they choose. A summon spirit does not have to die to grant someone it's powers, but if it does die, whoever is closest to the summon is given their complete power through a ritual.

Summon spirits inhabit places and specific objects and fix them and make them more powerful. It's basically like the FFVIII junctioning system, but instead of junctioning to an individual, it's to an object. If an individual is in possession of the item inhabited by the summon spirit, and the individual has proved their worth to the summon spirit, then the summon will grant the individual it's power.

The more powerful summon spirits have shrines and inhabit small figurines in their likeness to fight those who wish to gain the summon spirit's trust and powers. Shrine locations are not common knowledge and it is more likely to accidentally stumble upon one than to search for one. The shrines are in the place where the summon spirit was born and the shrined are built around that point. It is rumoured that some summon spirits have also placed some of their power in legendary weapons. A summon spirit can be summoned to where it's figurine is located.

Characters who are of a summoning job class come to the world with ONE summon. Summoners have an easier time locating the shrines and artifacts of other summons easier.

Magic in this world is derived almost completely by the power of summon spirits, unless one is naturally talented in magic (mage class characters). When a character first arrives, the magic from their world will work for awhile, until it dies out eventually. As stated before, characters who of mage class will have a natural magic ability and do not have to worry about having a summon spirit grant them power for basic spells (fire, cure, class one spells.) When a character's original means of doing magic dies out and they have acquired a summon spirit, the spirit will grant them spells depending on worthiness and trust. Eventually, a character will be able to summon a spirit directly or use their strongest attacks (for instance, a character would be able to perform Ifirit's Hell Fire.)

Abilities such as sword skills, limit breaks and the like will NOT fade away with time. Your character will always be able to use such things without the accompaniment of a summon spirit.
