The Interest and Hiring Thread

Welcome to Jack-O, a B/C shop based on the idea of Jack-O-Lanterns coming to life! We're fairly new, and still working on a lot of things, so please be patient. The pets that we currently have displayed are just the concepts, so you should expect to see much better art for the finished products. We will be having many games, contests and random fun while we get settled in, so stick around! Jack-O is also hiring colorists and editors, so if you think you want to work here check the post and fill out the form!

Our shops story is being written up right now... We can tell you it has something to do with a Jack named Mad King Thorn, and a very strange Halloween...

Keeping up with the Jacks

User ImageDate: Aug. 29
Jack-O is now hiring! We're looking for talented colorists and editors to work for our shop! Guaranteed to be fun and make you some serious gold...

User ImageDate: Aug. 28
Jack-O-Grams are here! Check out Page 2 for details and the order form!

User ImageDate: Aug. 28
There's a bunch of concept art up now. It's crap. Don't bother looking at it. The real thing will be so much better than you can handle. Oh, we also have a whole mess of contests in the works- you won't want to enter though. You can't win them.

User ImageDate: Aug. 27
The I/T thread is in the works! We're open for posting, but still getting settled in.

The TOS is your 10 Commandments, and we are your Burning Bush- Read one, obey the other. Easy enough, right?

Please, we've worked very hard on the concept, graphics, art and pets for this shop. Don't steal anything.

Our crappy concepts Pets

So the basics are simple for this post- we have pets that we have scribbled up, and you want to see them. Please be aware that these are NOT the final product- they're the concept sketches. Some of them (like the first three stages) will likely stay about the same, just with really pretty lines and shading. The rest are a kind of general idea. We'd love feed back, and anyone who wants to make us art (for free, we're not rich yet) would be loved!

With that, please read on to learn more about the Jacks!

                        The First Stage
                        What a lovely little pumpkin...
                        User Image

The first stage is pretty straightforward. On some big vine in the back lot of fallow land, a little pumpkin has appeared. All around, similar pumpkins are growing as well. Some seem normal enough, but a few are oddly colored, or have strange leaves and designs on them...They all give off a strange presence and a wretched odor... what is wrong with them?

                        The Second Stage
                        I'mma rip out your guts!
                        User Image

Oh my! Some evil person has come along and cut off all the little pumpkins! They even popped off the tops and gutted the poor, helpless little things! Their discolored seeds are spread on the ground for all to see. How will they ever survive?

                        The Third Stage
                        What are you looking at?
                        User Image

That's odd.... I don't remember the pumpkins having faces yesterday. Why are they glowing? I don't see any candles in them. And the smell... it's getting worse! Ugh, put those things outside for the night- I don't want my whole house to smell like that! Whoever carved those faces has a strange taste in 'art.' Some of them are down-right creepy! Except that one... that one looks a little..... special....

                        Kids
                        They do the darnedest things!
                        User Image

Wha- what the heck? Where did all these kids come from? And why on earth do they have the pumpkins on their heads? You, come here and take that off right n-.... OH GOD! THAT'S YOUR HEAD! WHY DO YOU HAVE A PUMPKIN HEAD???

                        Final Stage
And you thought they smelled before!
                        User Image

Those funny little, pumpkin headed freaks are all grown up. It seems like the faces they had as Jack-o-lanterns portrayed how they'd act as adults. I was hoping they'd grew out of those pumpkin heads though, and maybe look a bit more normal. Well, we'll just ask them to go live somewhere else- and take that strange vine with them!

                        Special Stage?
                        What could this be?

They're chanting something... Mad King Thorn? Who is Mad King Thorn?

              Pumpkin Pets!
              Wait... that Pumpkin looks odd...
              User Image

Here at Jack-O, we've discovered that our strange, kid producing vine also makes other things- pets! It's actually really hard to tell if a pumpkin is going to give you a child, or an animal, but we're working out ways to tell the difference. At least we know the pumpcat is never bothered by mice, and the puppkin likes to grow near trees and fire hydrants... Usually. Who knows what other strange things these little pumpkins will produce!

              Items
We have an App for that...
              User Image

With all this talk of Mad King Thorn, we got to thinking- what do you give a Mad King? Well, one of the kids accidentally dropped some candy corn into a jack-o, and now we have these strange Candy Corn Guards! After that, we decided to start dropping all kinds of things into the jacks! I thought the Jacks were weird, but this is gettind downright strange!
One thing we've noticed, those bags with the pumpkins seem to have any of the items we've tried- but they only show up on rare occasions...

              Hellhounds
Ugly, smelly, and perfect for the Mad King...

It looks like the vine started growing near that dead horse... Those don't look like healthy pumpkins... What is that strange sound coming from them? I'd better take these to the Mad King and see what he wants done with them!

              Colorist
              IT'S SO COLORFUL!

Just like any other shop, a colorist will be expected to color unique pets to be sold, auctioned or given out during games. You will make profit on your pets, and you will enjoy it. You do not have to know how to edit, but it would be a BIG bonus if you do.
Please read the job description and benefits carefully before applying. Then, fill out the form at the bottom of this post and post it up in the thread. You may color as many Jack-Os as you'd like, and you may even add more to your application later- just add them to the original application and make another post to let us know that you added on. Enjoy!

Job Requirements

--You should have Photoshop or another program that can handle layers and PSD files.
--Please be aware of layer usage and familiarize yourself with how we make our pets.
--You must have 2-4 pets completed before the 1st of each month for FS or Games.
--You must have at least 3 Custom or 2 Breeding slots open every month. You may alternate or mix.
--You will be active in the thread. We don't expect you to be here all day, every day, but come in at least a couple times a week to chat with other staff and customers.
--Your work must be consistent in quality, but not necessarily complexity. We don't mind simple pets.
--You should be able to cert your own work, or be willing to hire your own person (with shop approval) to do certs for you.
--You are expected to assist in shop events, and run your own events with little encouragement; be a self-starter!
--Stages 1- Adult should be completed BEFORE you give them to the customer or run an event. The uncert (with transparent background) of all stages must be uploaded to the Photobucket as well. This ensures that if something happens to you, we can still get the pets out to the customers.

Job Benefits
--100% of all individually run Flat Sales, Auctions, Raffles, Customs, Breedings, etc.
--Shop run events will be split evenly between all staff (and the mule) who contribute pets..
--1 Pet you make per month you can keep, 1 can be given to a friend
--Hidden bonuses, such as random free pets/items/etc, special staff only customs, etc.
--Participation in Staff Only events!
--Co-ops are allowed between all staff- pay should be discussed between those co-oping.
--If you hire someone to do certs for you, pay should be discussed between you and the certist.

              Editors
No! I want a spiked color like the Black Moa!

Edits are a wonderful thing for a shop like ours. We will be looking for people to do general stock edits that all the artists can use, as well as custom edits. You do not have to know how to color (or want to color) in order to be an editor, but doing both would be a BIG bonus.

This is something that can be discussed, but below is a general idea of what we would like.
--2 Basic Stock Edits for shop use or 2 Custom Edit slots per month (Stages 1-Adult)
--Active participation in thread and events
--Working well with the colorists that don't edit (if any)

Job Benefits
Again, this can be discussed if we have any editors who do not wish to color as well. Here's the basics, though.
--X% of shop profit per month or 0 of Customs
--1 Pet you make per month you can keep, 1 can be given to a friend
--Hidden bonuses, such as random free pets/items/etc, special staff only customs, etc.
--Participation in Staff Only events!
--Shop run events will be split evenly between all staff (and the mule) who contribute pets.
--Co-ops are allowed between all staff- pay should be discussed between those co-oping.

Below is the upload link to our colorist sample. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL PET! Please review it carefully before you start coloring. You may modify layers as you see fit, but understand the basic layering properties so that you can work with any stock edits we add.
You may color these as complex or simple as you like.
You may modify the shading template.
You may modify the Lines.
You may, basically, do anything you want with these lines to show off your skills!
You may NOT use these lines outside of your application to this shop!
