Nightmare in Kalos

Background:

Pokemons, creatures with fantastic abilities, weren't immortal, and just like humans, their time eventually comes. However, some pokemon and humans refused to let go, refused to follow the natural order. Their ambitions didn't stop their bodies to decay, but their soul never stopped fighting. Filled with the pain of leaving, regretting their short lives, decided to continued suffering in order to keep on living. But they needed more... Their live as souls was painful, and the force called Death keep trying to get them, everyday was filled with agony and suffering, just so they could keep on existing. "So unfair" They all started saying, "Why can't we keep on living, why do we have to stop existing... why are the living so happy..." These spirits couldn't tolerate any kind of kindness in the continent... and so they started destroying things around them, using his suffering as an excuse, claiming that if they can't be happy, then no one should hold that right.

At first, nobody mind, simple tricks, simple pranks.... but as the decades goes by, more and more pokemons and humans became spirits, ghosts.... soon their force was immense and people started to called them Dark Spirits. Their selfish existence gave product to an unforgivable curse all over the continent. They started to kill every authority inside the police force, the gym leaders, Elite Four members and finally the Champion of the continent. Replacing their existence and pokemons with specters, the atmosphere turned black, the continent once cheerful couldn't smile anymore... Medicines were polluted, berries started to rot, electricity was in short supply, pokemons who once were just fainted in battle, started dying... Soon the pokemon trainers were way to afraid to fight, and no one even dared to entered into the gyms.

The Champion, once a guide for the continent was in shambles, daring every trainer to try and stop him. He started spreading the word that the only way to return everything to normal, they needed to defeat him in battle. The spirits spread the word, the sadism of such words never stopped echoed through the future years, as trainers all over the continent dared to challenge the gym leaders, all failing, all dying. The spirit rejoiced on this, as their number started to increase with the decease. All the pokemon defeated by gym leaders were killed and their spirit captured, to make sure it never get peace, and also making sure the trainer keep on trying to beat them, because of the Champion is defeated, their death pokemons could be resurrected...

Trainer keep on trying, their spirits broken over and over again... there was no worse destiny than that. The spirits keep on motivating trainers to keep on trying, just to create more suffering. Their joy for this situation was the only thing that could keep their mind out of their own pain and suffering. Not only that, but trainers started to abuse of this new law of nature, bullying and killing every pokemon and trainer they could find, for the mere pleasure of watching their lives slipped away. Team Flare also did the same thing, considering themselves the only group of individuals who can reach true happiness, and using this motto to keep pulling more and more trainers to their twisted caused. The never ending nightmare soon overcome another trainer....

Roharu (trainer's name) tried to complete this challenge, he was never defeated.... but the pain of losing his pokemons was just too much to bare. He gave up on his journey and decided to keep his family safe... He was once a trainer who obtained the power of Mega Evolution, possessor of a Charizard and Delphox, both with incredible power, but also a powerful bond with him. The fear to lose them overcome him and decided to stop after defeating 3 of the 8 gym leaders. He thought his progress might help future generations, in a time where technology and science has been frozen, he created a diary and send it Prof. Sycamore, filled with the knowledge of his journey, a mere remember than will soon become a source of hope. In his final moments, his Charizard, Dragord, died together with him. Roharu may have given up, but Dragord never once did. He took his trainer beloved soul, and hating everything he was about to do... he transformed into a dark spirit so he could denied his death. His will lead him to resist the pain from his actions, and successfully transferred his trainer soul to a new body, a new child. Dragord hoped this time, he won't give up, and prayed to be reunited with him soon as he banish into the afterlife.

The new boy, called Roharu as well, grew up in this environment, taking a love for the challenge imposed to every trainer in the continent, he decided to take on this journey. Not because of some feeling to protect the weak or free the whole continent for this cursed, but because the challenge was alluring to him, and he couldn't stop wanting to end it just to prove himself capable of it, for the thrill it will caused on him.... Which was a really bad way to start his journey, because his motives were exactly the same as his predecessor.
Rules for the challenge:

1. If a pokemon's HP reach zero, it is considered death and unable to be used again.

2. If your starter died, it is game over.

3. When you have a pokemon, you can only have one of a kind, no replicas (evolved version of the pokemon are considered replicas).

4. All pokemons must be nicknamed.

5. Due to short supply of electricity, Pokemon Centers can only be used 4 times per city, except the one in the Pokemon League.

6. No healing items allowed, not even berries.

7. Once you entered a gym, you can't leave until you defeat the gym leader.

8. When a situation occurred, you are force to continue for the sake of storytelling. It is illogical than (for example) you run into a secret Team Flare base and you can leave and enter as you wish, once you're inside, you can't leave. If someone's pokemon is kidnapped, you must pursue the criminal without stopping to heal, etc.

9. When you entered in a fixed fight (fixed pokemons, fixed level and items, etc) The rules no longer apply.

10. All internet related powers are forbidden, such as trades, or O-powers, etc.

11. Your starter is the leader of the team, if one of your pokemons died in battle, it is the leader who must avenge such death.

12. The use of PC is limited (because it can be used as a healing device as well) to only 4 times per city (Exchanging your team after defeating a gym leader doesn't count).

Rule applied right after receiving the second started from Prof. Sycamore.

13. Your two starters (the one from Kalos and the one from Kanto) are your life support in this environment. If any one of them die in battle, you died (game over). You must have only one of them at all times.

14. Every time you defeat a gym leader, your pokemons are polluted, which means you must change your team every time you defeat one until you get the next badge.

Rules applied after obtaining all 8 badges.

15. All your pokemons can be used at all times, but the restrictions of the Pokemon Center and PC are still in place.
Introduction:

"So, how goes the story again?" Roharu said cynically on his history professor in the academy. His talk about death, suffering and never-ending nightmare took a toll in Roharu's patient.
"How dare you interrupt me boy?!"
"I just think the story never end, and the only different between the story from today and yesterday is the fact that you're quite good paraphrasing things..." The professor was shocked for a second and some students even manage to give a small giggle.
"This is it, your parents will now about this behavior!"
"If you can find them, go ahead and tell them I'm fine on my own"
"What did you say?!" At hearing this, a girl next to Roharu quickly stand up and reply, "Roharu is an orphan, sir! You don't have to be so mean...."
The professor looked shocked for a second time, finding himself with nothing else to say, and don't wanting to make unnecessary confrontation, he diminish the situation with a hand gesture and pick up his things.
"Hope you all had studied, the test will be held tomorrow at 8 am. See you then"

After the ring of the bell, everyone proceed to go home. Roharu was packing his things when the girl approach him. "Thanks for that"
"Thanks for what exactly?"
"Stopping him... his lectures, it is always so depressing"
"Oh, no need for that. There is a reason of why he always starts classes so early Monday to Wednesday and late the rest of the week. Did you know it?"
"A reason? I thought it was just part of program"
"Yeah, it is like this in the program because 'sad students = happy teachers'. It is much easier to keep us like little robots if we are always depressed"
"I never thought it like that! Still, it doesn't seem to affect you a lot, which is weird... you know... well" The girl didn't have much thought about what to tell next, but Roharu aid here at the end.
"Yes, I'm an orphan. Don't sweat it, stop saying it won't change much"
"I'm really sorry..."
"Don't be, I don't mind. Besides, you know me quite well by now. Loneliness is a really good friend for me" The girl smiled at this comment and just kiss him in the cheek as a good bye gesture and leave with his Marril coming alongside her. "Must be nice having a pokemon..." Roharu thought to himself.

Roharu has always been a lonely boy. He was left in an orphanage when he was a baby, and unlike many children who questioned themselves as to why their parents left them, Roharu never seemed to bother about it. The nurses found it weird, and started keeping an eye for him as he grow up. They found it always alone, quite, even talking with imaginary friends and never connecting, not even with the baby pokemons they brought to the kids. At first, they decided to let it go, but as soon as Roharu's behavior never changed despite having already 10 years old, the nurses called professional help, an old friend came to check on Roharu.

After a couple of weeks of therapy, the doctor, way over his late 80's decided to let Roharu go off therapy. The nurses wanted to know what was wrong with the boy, and the doctor gave them a full diagnostic:

"Nothing is wrong with the boy at all. He's just too matured to be locked in here"
The nurses crossed glances among them and then continued.
"But, if there was nothing wrong with him, why are you willing to keep on coming for the next month, and for free?"
"Because at my age, you don't get to talk with people like him anymore... I would miss our little chats so much if I weren't coming here everyday"

As the years went by, Roharu no longer had imaginary friends, nor any other friend other than the doctor. The doctor became a paternal figured for the boy as he grew up and there was always just one thing that this boy had as an 'issue'. He was the pinnacle of anti-socialism and introvert. He couldn't establish conversation with a group of people, he was unable to stay in reunions, parties, or any kind of event who involved more than 5 people without having a big headache. The doctor found it fascinating, and it is because of that personality than the boy never cared about his real parents. "They probably couldn't keep me because they couldn't afford it, or maybe they thought I will be having a better life here, or maybe they just never wanted me in the first place. Who knows? It is not like I'm desperate for attention, nor needed.... and talking about it, our season is over, right?" He said at the end of their first season.

At the age of 14 however, the doctor finally passed away, leaving all his belongings to Roharu. Roharu was puzzled when he heard about it, but the nurses said that the doctor had always been thinking in adopting him.
"Why he wouldn't? I wouldn't have minded coming with him...."
"He never did because he knew he didn't have much time, that's why he...."
"Don't give that-!!" Roharu suddenly stopped himself. It was for the first time in his life someone has connected with him, and now he was gone, swearing will never bring him back.... But those thoughts, while correct, didn't stop Roharu's rush of anger and sadness.
"Do you still want that chair, or are you going to throw it away?" The nurses once again interchanged looks, puzzled by the sudden change of subject.
"Emmm, yeah, it is a broken chair so..."
"Don't bother, I will" Roharu, almost running grabbed the chair and stepped outside, one of the nurses run after him, and witness how Roharu grabbed the chair and crushed to the trash container, over and over and over again. Splinter flying everywhere as Roharu just keep destroying it until no piece was bigger than a tennis ball.
"Much better now... when is the dinner ready ma'am?" He said once he noticed the nurse standing almost paralize a couple of meters away.

Several years had passed from that day, Roharu is now 18 years old. Taking care of the house and the pokemons of the doctor. "You guys must be missing him as well...." Roharu would said to Ponyta and Graveler, the doctor's partners. He then turned his eye on the egg he left behind. An egg that never hatched, but never stopped giving a sign of life. Watching him was a reminder of how painful it must be... Some spirits would like nothing more than torturing future born pokemons, keeping them alive while at the same time forbid them to born, he couldn't imagine why the doctor would keep him or her alive. People usually would throw those eggs, others will show some mercy and crush it, rather than watching them suffer.

The doctor however, never gave up, he probably wanted to watch it born. "But that is never going to happen" Roharu served himself some food and started dinner. Ponyta will approach and handle his history book at him, like telling him to study. "Don't worry" Roharu said while childishly stroking his head "I memorized it already. Even though I hate the teacher, I still pay attention to class" Which is true, as Roharu holds one of the top 10 best grades in his academy. Even though the semester has just started, for Roharu, the subjects were too easy to learn. The only difference was the change of teachers as once again, they all will find out he was an orphan living on his own.

As he finished his dinner, a sudden cracking noise started to echoed in the room. "What the-?" If Roharu wouldn't have seen it, he would have never believed.....

So a harder version of the Nuzlock challenge?

Technically, I couldn't call it Nuzlocke because I can catch anything I want. Also, it is my own version of the story rather than the story from the game.
Chapter 1: Cursed....

"For someone so smart, you have some silly tendencies" Fennekin said to me after had forgotten my books in the house.... twice....
"Listen, Pyro, if you're going to continue with the lectures, I can still seal you away in the pokeball for the rest of the day"
"As if I would let you" Pyro answered to me. I don't particularly dislike bringing Pyro with me, but his constant nagging sometimes takes the toll in my patient. Especially since he loves traveling at the top of my head...

"So beautiful! Pyro you look quite gallant today"
"Oh! Who is it?!" Pyro almost jumped at hearing Serena, which it was expected. During the couple of days I had been with Pyro I realized three things. First, he's timid, no doubt about. Second, he has some weird sense of justice to the point of wanted to break the curse, which is suicidal thinking. Third, he possessed a quite amount of intellect and maturity despite the fact that he's a baby... or so it seems.

Serena also jumped back when she heard Pyro talking. Again, as expected. She wasn't used to see pokemon talking, in fact, there were only few pokemons capable to talk.... pokemons possessed by a dark spirit. I was a little scared at first with Pyro, but he being able to look so shock when Ponyta tried to greet him remind me that he was just a baby pokemon. As to why he would have this sense of justice... Probably the doctor was reading out loud some of his liberal books about 'Pokemons and humans capable to achieve anything' kind of things.

"I'm sorry Pyro... I just..."
"No, please, it was me who jumped on first"
"Just agree in the fact that both are at fault and get it over with. By the way, Pyro, remember not to talk here...."
"Oh, yeah, sorry" Pyro may seems like a baby pokemon, but he was definitely capable to understand everything. In fact, he has as much vocabulary as any adult, which puzzle me a little. There is still a theory, Pyro was indeed possessed by a spirit, and somehow, an spirit, who is unable to accept dead, found a way to resurrect... if that is true, then the pokemon in the egg really died a long time ago, and Pyro is a resurrected pokemon. Either way, a resurrected spirit is nothing to worry about. I didn't care, Pyro was my friend now, regardless of his previous deed. The problem is what the other thinks.... For me, who has avoided to enter in any kind of social interaction, worrying about what people think of me was a new territory. Luckily Serena understood the situation and decided to keep it a secret when she spotted Pyro talking to me.

"Guys!!" Oh no.... "I finally found you, so, ready for the math test in the next hour? Roharu could you help me please?" This annoying pink girl was Shauna.... for a school who focus on crushing our spirits and mind, in an apocalyptic stage of world, she was one really, really happy person.... And I hated it.....
"Fine, I will do it, just hurry up and tell me your doubts" Okay, me saying I hate her is going a little over board, I just don't want to spend a second with her alone. It is different, right?
"Just these three exercises, how did you do it?"
"Oh, derivates. Don't worry, it is easy"
"By the way, Roharu... is it true?"
"What is it Shauna?"
"That you're really going to try to break the curse... to beat the champion?" I quickly glanced at Serena, as she was the only one who knew about it.
"Yes, it is true"
"But why? Here we are safe, why would you risk your life like that?"
"Because I'm not satisfied by this life. With all due respect, I feel useless. Staying here... it isn't what I want"
"The life is empty when you're that good... right?" Serena said it. It was true. School was easy, relationships weren't interesting to me, and everything else was in silver plate. I had no real challenge in life, I don't feel like a living person anymore. I feel empty, and probably I had always feeling like this since the death of the doctor...

The rest of the day went just as predicted, and finally, I packed my things and got ready for the next step. "Here, in Vaniville Town all I have to do is go through the forest and get to the first gym. Are you sure you want to accompany me, Pyro?"
"I may be scared for this, but that won't stop me from doing this... I know it is crazy but I think I had tried this once, but never finished it"
"I don't think it is crazy at all"
"Why is that?" I could now, either tell Pyro my hypothesis of him being a resurrected dark spirit, or lie to his face.... It's a shame for him that I have such a large experience lying to people's faces.
"Everyone has dreams, yours must be more real than others because you're a dreamer... And I will help you reach as far as you wish. I promised" That being said, I send Ponyta and Graveler to Serena's home, so she can take care of them. Packed everything and leave the academy behind.

Nowadays, electricity has always being an issue. Therefore, Pokemon centers and PC services had been restricted to almost everyone, except for the trainers that want to break the curse. Using the permission and items from the doctor's will, I got ready for the adventure... or maybe I should called 'torture'? My house was equipped by a recovering machine similar to the pokemon center, but it only had 4 uses, which is ironic. All pokemon centers had a policy never to help a trainer more than 4 times, because of this, many strong trainers ended up suffering crushing defeat.

Travelers as well, no longer exist, since it is illogical for them to venture outside anymore. Without a Pokemon, a human can't survive the curse. A pokemon must hold the lifespan of its trainer to survive, and the only Pokemon I have now is Pyro. Even though he's a newborn, I couldn't trust anyone else for this, and even if I could, there was no one I would trust it other than him.

It didn't take me long before reaching the grass and found my first pokemon, a Pidgey which I called Penny. What shocked me was the moment I released her to say hi. "Ouch, you really should be more careful with me!!"
"What the-?!"
"It can talk, it can talk! Just like me!" While Pyro was happy, I was puzzled, such a thing should be impossible. This Pidgey wasn't capable to talk before I catch it, but now...
"Hey... since when can you?"
"You can understand me, human? Good then" She proceeds to tackle me in the top of my head. It didn't hurt as much but it still annoyed me.
"Hey, don't attack our master like that!"
"You're right, it was you who attacked me, I should be attacking you instead"
"Could you please calm down, Penny?"
"Oh, Penny... is that how you called me now?"
"Y-yeah... hope you like it" I said in a lower voice, Penny then approached me and rested on my shoulder. "I will let it pass I guess. It is bad holding a grudge anyways"
"Listen, I'm sorry for hitting you like that, but I needed to catch you, and you didn't make it easy by the way"
"Pokemons are used to be bullied by trainers. Some of us wants to fight this damned curse, but others just wanted to be left alone"
"What about you, Penny? Would you help us?" Pyro asked, and Penny nodded in content. "If you would have asked me an hour ago, I would have ran away, but... I want to fight alongside you. Yes, that's what I want" Pyro was rejoiced to hear it, and Penny went to celebrate with her. I was ignored for a couple of seconds, but I found it weird that a Pokemon suddenly obtained the ability to talk, and also, such a sudden change of heart. I heard pokemons turned friendlier toward the trainer who captures her/his. But to suddenly change its mindset, that was abnormal.

A quick thought flashed my mind. What if the cursed one isn't Pyro, but me?! This was a theory that I needed to test, and so I captured other 3 more pokemons. All of them suddenly agreed to come with me, all 3 of them started talking to me, with 2 of them claiming never wanted to be involved, but now they suffered a 'sudden change of heart'. Pyro was really happy to have so many friends, but I no longer was feeling okay with it.

"Aren't you having fun?" A voice popped into my head, and gave me the shivers.
I looked around and saw everything in a pitch of black and white, time stopped. My breathing was being taken away, my legs no longer answered me.
"Who are you? No... what are you?"
"You have so many questions kid. This makes it even more fun to watch" This time the voice came from outside my head, and my eyes glued to my shadow behind me. "A dark spirit..."
"Being cursed isn't so bad, don't you think kid? In fact, I would say you were blessed!"
"Am I a puppet for you?"
"You're quick to catch on" My mind accelerates as well as my heart. Were my new partners brainwashed because I caught them?!
"Well, not exactly" I was a little shocked this time as my mind was no longer safe.
"Since when are you with me?"
"For many, many years"
"Is my personality a product of your presence?"
"No, why would I alter something that is already perfect for the show"
"Is the reason my pokemons are talking to me and agreeing to come against you your fault?"
"That's correct. Oh but don't think for a second you're that special. Many trainers have this curse on them as well"
"During the last 10 years, almost no trainer wanted to break the curse... which means you guys want to push us into fighting you, right?"
"Correct. I knew I had a nice vessel"
"That plan.... you gave us hope, and now that that minuscule hope isn't enough to motivate us, you manipulate pokemons into trying"
"Not only pokemons but humans as well. There is no fun to see pokemons and humans crying and running away from us. We needed trainers who believe they are invincible, and force the pokemons into fighting as well"
"So you erased their original personality the moment I use my pokeball on them..."
"Of course not. I just change their point of view. What is the fun to manufacture an entire new personality on a pokemon? We don't want to create soldiers, we want to create gullible pawns, it's different"

Taking a huge breath, I glanced at him with as much determination as I could. 'Why do you torture us?' No, such question was answered decades ago. They do this because it is fun for them, but that didn't stop me.
"This is going to backfired you. Get ready for it!" My own shadow laughed at me, twisting himself into disgusting shapes. Soon, the time started running again, and I could see things normally.
"Master! Is everything okay?" Pyro asked, watching me sweating and worried.
"It is nothing, don't worry about it, okay? Let us continue..."

'You really love your secrets, don't you boy?' The doctor used to tell me. He was right... I loved my secrets, knowledge is power after all. The more knowledge you have, the more powerful you can be.... and I loved that power. So much that I didn't want to share it. Pyro continued walking alongside me, with our new friends inside my pokeballs... 'Am I puppet?' I keep thinking, the answer is a big, obvious YES that keep echoing in my head, but I still move on. Instead of being afraid, I was exciting. This was the first time in my life something actually looked impossible to me, and I couldn't wait to see the look of this dark spirit once I crushed him. Nothing could give me the same satisfaction. On the other hand, I looked at Pyro, happily walking alongside me. He trusted me more than anyone else.... I guess guilt ended up becoming a second nature to me, it didn't bother at all.
Chapter 2: Relationships

"So, how long till we reach the next town master?"
Finn asked a little impatient.
"Well, we barely just started. At the end of this route, we will enter a forest I think. Right after that the city will welcome us"
"Perfect, we might need to take a rest there" Pyro said cheerfully. Finn and Pyro started to get a little close, but as far as I could see, Pyro was still the only pokemon I could trust for the journey.

Penny, while willed and strong, had a deficient speed, even by low level pokemon standards. Bunny was the next pokemon I caught, and his nature was fitting for the journey. But I wanted to wait before training him, as I already use my PC recovery twice, it could be dangerous to train a low level pokemon. Zimmy was also fitting for the journey, a little susceptible to special attacks but his speed compensate it, but I ended up making the same call about training him. Finally, my fourth pokemon, Finn. Finn was really careless when moving around and fighting, but he proved to be the fastest pokemon I had, besides Pyro of course. I decided to stop capturing pokemons from now and go to the forest. People said Pikachu live there and I'm willing to caught one, with his paralysis moves, catching pokemons will prove far easier.

"Wait right there!" A black-haired boy called and I turned around. The kid was dressed as one of those peasants asking for money on the streets, all his features dirtied with mud and earth. He looks at me in the eyes and throw his pokeball, reveling a zigzagoon a few meters ahead of me.
"Wow, what is the meaning of this?"
"This is exciting, another human. Let's have some fun with him!"
"Kehehehe"
"That, that zigzagoon... what is wrong with him?"
"So the kid was possessed to this extent...." I had read about this before, people who are possessed by a dark spirit tends to stop thinking and move merely on instincts, psychotic instincts. People like him ended up killing most of the people around Kalos. Spirits enjoy that after all.
"Pyro, don't worry. You can do it"
"What? Kill him?" Pyro looked at me terrified at this turn of events.
"He is already dead Pyro"
"But-"
"Move!!" I called him once the zigzagoon tried to tackle him, fortunately Pyro knew perfectly well where to run. However, he didn't attack, but rather kept avoiding attacks.
"So pathetic!" The little kid screamed while I was watching in misbelieve. Pyro, who could handle any pokemon so far, was unable to counter attack. Zigzagoon wasn't stronger, nor faster, but aggressive, to the point where he had countless openings. He was weak, too weak, and yet Pyro was unable to win. "Pyro, please! Use Ember and finish this already!"

Suddenly I feel my feet abandoning the earth, my ribs in pain and my head on the floor. The little kid had approached while I was distracted watching the fight and looked down on me about to throw me a punch. I hold his right arm in the air while he clawed his left hand on my chest. "Aaargh!!" I grunted in pain, as the kid's arm was slowly getting closer to my face. I saw it clearly now, it was a pointy rock in his right palm. It was way too dull to cut me, but with enough blunt force it could easily crush my skull. "Pyro!" I called for help. 'You need more exercise kid! Not everything can be fixed reading a book!' I recalled my P.A professor said. I hated gym class, I was never good in any kind of coordination. I was decently fast though, and my cardio was good as well. But when it comes to lifting, arm wrestling, plain wrestling and combat... I was at the bottom of the pack. When playing basketball and football, my skills were as high as any other girl, not something I was proud of but I never cared.... That is until a couple of seconds ago. I was desperately calling help from Pyro rather than taking care of myself as I should have.

Pyro looked at the scene, me wrestling against that cursed kid who was about to kill me. It paralyze him enough for zigzagoon to successfully hit him.
"Quite fast, but so afraid to do anything, huh?"
"Why are you doing this" Pyro said trying to stand up again.
"You really know nothing, but don't worry, once I crushed every single bone I'll make sure to have some fun with your body. You can feel useful now baby"

Zigzagoon went for a second tackle and I was no longer capable to keep my eyes open as I put all my strength on my right arm, feeling the rock already touching strongly on my forehead. Suddenly, I feel something hot, right on top of me. That insane heat was followed to the stop of the kid's strength. When I opened my eyes, the kid's face was melted away, leaving only a skull in flames. I took a drowned scream and kick the kid on top of me. I saw as his entire existence was engulfed in flames. Then turned around and saw zigzagoon' body also in flames. I approached to an exhausted Fennekin lying next to zigzagoon. Was him tired after that attack? No, at least not for the attack, he was mentally exhausted for what just happened.

"I-I...." I didn't find words to say, and I think words now are useless. So I simply hug him, as tightly as I could and muttered to his ears. "Thank you"

Several hours happened after our very first fight against another trainer. We returned and I heal everyone before advancing. With this, I had use the recovery system a total of 3 times and decided to keep the last one for emergencies now. "Are we going to past the forest now?" Pyro asked, a little scared to know the answer.
"I'm afraid so. Also, there will be more trainers now, which means...."
"Do I have kill again?"
"Yes, many, many more times Pyro. If you can't, then please let me know now or else... we might both get killed in that place"
"No... I can, I will do everything in my power to finish this curse!" Pyro yelled, filled with a contagious motivation. I managed a small grin and simply looked forward.
"Then, what are we waiting for? We still 8 badges to get and we still haven't even started to pass the first route!" I then rushed toward the exit and Pyro followed me.

I wasn't an idiot, this time I was ready for anything. I could no longer let Pyro took care of everything, I needed to put my part on this, not only as a trainer, but also as a fighter. True, I wasn't strong at all, nor am I fast, but I was good at planning and improvising. Armed with a dagger on my arm and hiding a knife on both my feet I continued forward on the forest.

Multiple trainers assaulted us as well, but now, with Pyro fully committed to move forward, he dispose of every single pokemon that stood on our way with a single ember. The only pokemon who could stop Pyro, if only for a minute, was Panpour, because of his water type properties. Aside from that, the whole journey through the forest ended up sooner that we could expect. Pyro still had the look of fear in his eyes, but he no longer held back, and didn't hesitate either. Pyro was a timid pokemon, it was in his nature, but he learned not to let it bother him.

After a couple of hours of traveling through the forest, we were ready to leave except for one more thing. We still needed to catch a Pikachu here.
"Is it really necessary, Master? I would like to just go to the city already"
"Are you eager to fight the first gym leader? Or to sleep on a bed?"
"Is it okay to say a little of both?"
"You can say that you just want to sleep. Trust me, I'm tired as well" I said looking at the bloodied knife on my right arm. I wasn't good at coordination nor fighting, but when the opponent just rush toward you, and you are paying attention, stretch your hand forward isn't as hard as you might think. Killing was actually kind of easy, anyone in my class could do it. The feeling made me feel odd though, is killing supposed to be easy? And, if it is.... does that make you feel less guilty for those actions? Humans had so many weakness it isn't funny. Almost anything could kill us, this little pocket dagger killed a kid around my eyes by me just stabbing him in the right eye, it went easy, fast. It was a quick, clean kill. Yet, why I don't feel different? I feel odd, but not as much as.. I don't know, a killer should feel? Maybe it is because I never considered them to be alive any longer I think. The same goes for Pyro, he didn't need much, other than ember to eliminate everyone. Just leaving ashes and bones of them behind. Some pokemon with higher endurance leave burned skin behind though. This whole experience only gave me a good lesson, killing is far easier than people think. However, is the guilt of such act then easily forgotten? Or am I just a psychopath for not feeling guilty? I don't care much about the answer of those questions, as long as I don't feel anything and I find it easy, climbing the way to the Champion will go smoothly.

"There it is!" I said, finally encountering a Pikachu in the area.
"Pika! Pika-chu!!" He suddenly unleash a strong thundershock at us. Pyro however took the hit for me, and moved forward. "Use scratch, not ember. Remember we need it"
"Got it" Pyro avoided Pikachu's thundershock and scratch him. The damage however.... let's just say I didn't know Pyro was as physically weak as me.

After three attacks, I decided to throw the pokeball at him. Well... not throw, but rather run toward him, closing to a distance lower than 2 meters and hope for the best. That's how I catch pokemons, running toward them once they were weak and hope they don't avoid the pokeball. I never learn how to throw the pokeball on optimal distance. People would hate having me as a player in their baseball team, that's for sure.

"We did it!" Pyro celebrates after I got my hands on Pikachu, who I called Ryu. "By the way, Master, am I really that weak?"
"You can one-shot almost every pokemon we had seen, how can you say you're weak?"
"I mean, physically..."
"Oh.... well... let's just trust in your powerful ember, okay?" That answer caused Pyro to let go a quite long sigh, but I couldn't lie to him about such a subject.
"Anyways, you did great, back there. Now let's get some rest and heal you back okay?" Pyro nodded in content and we continued to the Pokemon Center.

The people in the city looked quite wary about me, they were probably thinking I was another possessed kid walking around (and they wouldn't have been wrong, but I'm not in that state.... yet). Pyro however looked excited to hand around in another completely new city. Seeing such a cheerful pokemon on top of my head was probably the only reason no way tried to attack me or yell at me in fear or anger. Once I got to the pokemon center, I thought all my problems of the day had passed. Man, was I wrong. I couldn't expect nothing else from the 'new police force' of the city. Ever since the death of all the gym leaders and elite four members, the police officers were all crushed and killed by the spirits possessing trainers and the gym leader. A city who has a gym leader in it are also the most paranoiac ones. They all started calling their pokemons at me and Pyro, ready to tear us both apart. It took me awhile to explain my situation, I couldn't actually blamed them though, looking myself in the mirror on the Pokemon Center, blood spilled on all my clothes, having a knife hided on my socks who was also soaking blood, and an unemotional face (Yeah, people say that about me, even Serena. I wonder why though).

Either way, I explained my situation for hours and finally gain their trust. And when I said trust, I mean gained the right to have a surveillance 24-hours for 3 different guys rather than getting tear apart by their pokemons. Me and Pyro took a shower and all my clothes were washed. When I asked about the money it will cost to sleep there, the nurse merely said 'If you're who you said you are, then this is the least we can do for you'. I guess I understand their point. Now that Pyro is fully heal, I was ready to train other pokemons as well.

"Finn, I need to talk to you a second" I called upon Finn from one of my pokeballs and he sure was happy to see me and out of his pokeball.
"What is it, is it finally my turn to fight?"
"Calm down a bit... Well, let's go to the point. Pyro may be powerful, and I'm sure that he could handle the gym leader since she seems to be a bug trainer..."
"So, you don't need me?"
"No, I do need you. While Pyro and I can take care of the gym leader, people said that she got over 5 trainers under her service. I don't think Pyro can take them all, and I'm definitely unable to defeat all of them alone as well. That's why I need you. I need another flying pokemon capable to fight alongside us" My words seems to have sparked something in Finn's eyes. When I started to experiment with my caught pokemons about their change of mindset, Finn was the only one who was eager to fight against the curse. He wanted to fight before I even caught him. The look in his eyes told me he won't let me down.
"You can trust me, master! I promised I will be strong enough!" I smiled and hug her a little in signal of trust. Tomorrow it will be a full training day for Finn, but I'm sure than once he is ready. Pyro and him together will be undefeatable, even for a gym leader.

This looks very interesting. A fanfiction where you impose a challenge and have the story change as you play the game. I think I'll like this~

Dafuq is up with the spam of disclaimers? You think anyone who still plays Pokemon over the age of 16 is completely sane?

Anyways, how creative. Your rules and story are very unique. I will try to read this in more often.
