Go Green Gaia

Because it's about time.

Hello everyone
The very word 'Gaia' means Earth, so it's about time for GaiaOnline to go green, no? I think now it is our turn to set a good example. This thread is to help raise awareness of global warming, encourage Gaians to be more eco-friendly, and get the Gaia headquarters in California to start recycling!


I need people to help me make banners and draw items that inspire conservation =]

Our Goals

• Get the Gaia headquarters in San Jose, California to recycle everything in the office!
  
• Give Gaians tips on how to conserve energy.
  
• Getting GaiaOnline into the spirit with the suggestions our wonderful supporters have given us.
  
• Make Momma Earth Green and sparkly clean!
  
• Make a quest featuring questions about way to conserve and recycle
  
• Have plastic bottles and bags in towns that users can pick up and recycle for gold and prizes
  
• Have items promoting recycling and reuse of the environment (ex. reusable tote bag instead of plastic bag)

Just by looking at my avatar, anyone can easily assume that I'm a tree-hugging, liberal hippie and they're correct. So, of course I will sign!

I want to go green! I sign!

I help lead the Student Environmental Activist club at school and I know how hard it is to get people really excited about anything involving reusing, recycling, and reducing. It's great to see the corporate world getting involved, selling organic tote bags with green but 'cool' messages like "I Earth" and whatnot, but what people need to realize is that being green is not just a trend. They honestly have to work towards a better future, not buy into those who profit off of the idea and move onto the next fad. Promoting being green, and truly green, on Gaia would be a good, potential cause which I'm sure Gaia would be glad to support and use their resources for in order to share and pass on to educate the youth of today. All those Ideas that you have listed are really excellent and I totally believe that this is all possible, once we get Gaia's support.

Suggestion: In Gaia's real life clothing store, they could feature a shirt(s) that relay some green message, but with that ol' Gaian theme. Maybe add some NPCs. Then, with the money they've raised, proceeds could go to some eco-friendly, green charity or fund. At school we did something similar by making green and blue tye-dye t-shirts, mix CDs, earth cookies, trail mix, and dirt pudding (a crowd favorite) and used the money to adopt a tree in the rainforest to represent our school. It was a success and I'm sure that it would work even better on a larger scale such as this, which already has a lot of support!

Definitely. The very word "Gaia" means Earth. Here's a take on the Gaia theory by Wikipedia: Cliiiiiiick.
I know a lot of people have wanted to upgrade our ONLINE recycling, but I think Gaia INC should do more. Maybe send off purchased merchandise in recycled boxes? Recycle their scribbled-on papers? Have Lanzer take his used soda and water bottles to Hyvee or Walmart or toss them in the recycle bin instead of the trash?

And make sure that all your electronics are turned off and unplugged when you aren't using them, Gaia! :3 (Unless it'll make the site crash.)

I've be working towards being eco-friendly in real life for over a year ^^ I love this petition and think it's obvious that Gaia should work towards being more earth-friendly. I'd love to know about things that Gaia is already doing to help the environment 3nodding

idea Idea: One of the main reasons that I've never bought anything from the Gaia shops is that all their clothing is made from regular cotton. If Gaia could make all or at least some of its clothing from organic cotton or hemp I would feel much better about buying it 3nodding Also, the keychains and plastic things should be made from recycled plastic, etc.

Website: www.care2.com is a wonderful website that has a vast community and provides links that donate to worthy charities, and it has lots of articles with information about how to be safer and do things that will benefit the environment.

Although i think the biodegradable idea is slightly deranged, I would love some recyclable items! For example in towns, we could have recycle bins, if we recycle enough plastic bottles or bags or w.e. we could win a prize or trade in our trash for items just like the papers smile *signs*

Raising awareness is nice. But recycling in Gaia doesn't really help much in the real world, where we actually need help.

My suggestion is that you'd make your petition broader, as to include the real life Gaia Headquarters. There are plenty of companies that are proud of being environment friendly. Gaia could be one of them. Energy saving measures come to mind, for example, but there are plenty of things I'm sure they could do.

That together with a pretty announcement saying what they did AND an item release with the suggestions you've gotten so far could be quite an inspiration. 3nodding

I have an idea for a celebration if Gaia goes green:

1. We can all dress up green.
2. We can all have environment encouraging signatures such as text saying, "GO GREEN!" or "Save the Earth!"
3. Staff can make announcements encouraging users to pick up trash in their neighbourhood and to not waste electricity.
4. Every user can chat about how the plan went great and that they hope this will help the Earth in a new permanant forum discussing the environment itself and thanking the Gaia staff for going green.
5. The Gaia staff can prove they have been picking up trash by other members of the Gaia HQ taking pictures of other staff members picking up trash outside.
6. Gaia Staff can make a new program on the site called G.H.E., which stands for Gaians Helping The Environment, so say you click on "Community", and there is a new program, and it is the program I am talking about. It can be an announcement archive for the users who haven't seen the environment encouraging announcements.
7. All users who pick up trash in towns will recieve a cloth bag, perfect for not wasting plastic.
