I don't see what is attractive about Germanic and Norse mythology. I mean these gods were for the warriors and warriors held a special honor in the religious system. The religion is not for spirituality or outsiders per se, it's for Norse and German warriors. It's not for common people, it's for the powerful. I don't see how Asatru is fair to people, let alone a powerful and sensible faith system. You have to drop 99.9% percent of the viking beliefs in order to follow the belief system today. How can you relate to a goddess who represents something that is no longer relevant? How come we relate to something only relevant to warriors? What happened with preserving the volgas? Only women are entitled to psychic powers in the Viking religion.

I go to high school in South Louisiana and there's a good number of "pagans" here. Like someone else said, it's different, misunderstood, shocking, and has plenty of things to do like spells and sabbats to piss off your parents. What teenager wouldn't love it? From my experience, it's also pretty popular amongst the adult population who are the out-of-touch-with-reality type, like extreme LARPers and company.

Well there are legitimate pagans who take the time to research and then there are the fluffs, who would be the out of touch with reality ones.

I agree there are fluffs but Asatru isn't authentic Northern European paganism either.

Vikings =/= all Nordic cultures.

I'm going to assume you mean "volva". It's nothing about being "entitled"... seidhr was ergi, unmanly. You could do it as a man, but it was kinda taboo.

Thor is a god of "common people". As is Heimdallr, considering he as Rin fathered lines in different levels of society. The religion wasn't relevant only to warriors, but then, I don't think four short paragraphs on an uncited website really sum it up. neutral That's really the first place you'd go for information? There's barely anything there. Even wikipedia's a better option.

Are you going to back up that "99.9%", or did you pull that out of your arse? and, just out of interest, is there a religion you do think is "fair to people"?

Of course there are. But the thread is about it being trendy, not people who actually believe it.

Are you honestly trying to say that Hindu Cosmology and Astrology shows a grasp of how the universe physically is?

Excuse me, I'll be over here laughing.

Not to go against you much Celeblin, but Vedic astronomy and cosmology has quite a bit in common with modern scientific models of the universe, if just a bit mythologically enhanced. sweatdrop
There's still a giant amount of "it's all a godly dream" to deal with.

I'm not trying knock Hinduism mind you, just trying to point out how a contest is ludicrous to begin with. I mean, I could make an argument on how the Norse origin story shares some amazing similarities with how we think the universe started particularly the bits about heating and cooling, but I still have to contend with a cosmic space cow. Comparing Vedic to Norse for anything other than comp myth is silly and generally shouldn't be done. I mean, take your personal preferences, whatever, but if it's going to turn into a contest, there are about a thousand reasons I can think up for why it would go either way, making the whole thing futile.

Snippet of evidence for my claims:
http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/norse-mythology.php?deity=THOR&ds=N
Quote:
THOR: God of Thunder. Thursday is Thorsday.

Son of ODIN and JORD, he's the famous Scandinavian God with Hammer, the burly red-bearded Lord of Thunderstorms. He rides through the storm clouds in a chariot pulled by goats and throws his hammer MJOLLNIR all over the place to create lightning. Thud Thud Clang.

As perhaps you might expect, he's not terribly bright and LOKI was always leading him astray. But they were firm friends and THOR was always ready to bash his enemies with the business end of his hammer.

Married to SIF, he's also been known to have a fling with the Giantess JARNSAXA, with whom he produced the equally fearsome MAGNI and MODI. His daughter is THRUD. And that's not an insult, it's her name.

See also DONAR.

Thor is weaker than Loki.

Thor is a dumb ********. YEAH...

You do not know more than everybody so get off your high horse.

*FACEPALM* Godchecker is meant for humour, not seriousness. Seriously, they even state as much on their website.

Also, nowhere in your quote does it claim that Thor is weaker than Loki. Please try again.
Bad Wrath! No giving the troll with a persecution complex attention. Do not ask them to try again, just ignore them, as I do, because it's not worth it. Because I already know everything they say is whiny bullshit aimed at trying to set me off because I once hurt their pwecious widdle fweelings. So I honestly don't care. And neither should you. Except when they say I'm a racist. Then just report them.

Hey Sanguina, remember that time I showed you how some person was bad mouthing you on a thread I run and proceeding to just make trouble for everyone?

This is that same person. And they're trying to make me yell, and further fuel their persecution complex that all of M&R hates them.

I mean, your reasoning is awesome and all, but what you're going to get out of this is so just not worth the effort.

Also, I apparently actually have to state this: I don't think Thor is better than Shiva in any categories, except perhaps ones like "which Gods suit me better" or "Gods with the reddest hair". I was trying to show how stupid it is to hold a Godly grudgematch, especially when you start to bring fate into the picture.

Just checking. wink
Personally I am a true blood Wiccan Child. But yes, a number of my friends had turned to Wiccanism because I had come out with my religion. I accepted them with open arms till it became clear they were only following this because they thought it was different, dark, and rebellious.
My family has a history of our Wiccanism. Of course I'm the only descendant who follows this tradition anymore. I am the only wiccan left in my family's coven name.
I said enough.

I apologize if that was phrased in a complicated way.
Originally my ancestors were once Wicca. Then somewhere down the line they converted to Catholicism, then Christianity. I like to call myself a Wiccan child because I am one of the wiccan descendants and want to bring that part of my family back.
