I write the code using just a notepad document thing on windows. Then you save it as a .php instead of whatever it normally is. Also, make sure the encoding is "Ansi" and not one of the unicode ones. It messes it up if you save it as unicode. (It has the option near the save button if you're using the notepad thing from Windows)
If you're using a Mac or something else, then idk. I'm not familiar with what the equivalent would be on there.
