She's not missing the litterbox any longer or going in other places now? That's really good news. I hope her checkup on Sat goes well and she's truly on the mend. It sounds like she's been through quite the ordeal.

It's not that they're not quick enough; they made no effort at all to resolve the problem nor do they intend to beyond changing our account numbers and freezing accounts; we can't operate that way. So we did find a new CU that has a strong fraud department. We're in the process of moving everything over to it, but it takes time; some CDs need to mature, waiting on the new credit card from our new CU to close out the one with our old one, waiting on checks to arrive, that sort of thing.

We had to have a kitchen replaced twice because the first contractor did horrible work that resulted in it getting destroyed again from a leak and if it hadn't happened, some electrical work he did would have likely set our house on fire, so I'm glad the leak happened first. Both were insurance claims and the 2nd one was during the hard shutdowns in 2020 so for two months we had no kitchen while all the restaurants were closed. Take out only and getting really inventive for breakfast, camp food essentially. Today I'm shopping online for carpet colors that might work with our master bedroom as the guy the contractor sent us had a very limited selection with nothing that would work in our room even remotely. I found 5 possibilities. The carpet guy told me to pick something and he'd see if he could get it directly. So I guess I'm getting a lot of carpet samples to figure it out and this will take time. Until that's resolved and we actually have the carpeting, work can't begin in the room. The construction company has all permits now so it can start as soon as we do this.

We truly are and yesterday was the most spectacular day yet; we saw 5 different mass flocks of Snow Geese in 5 different areas; one very close up and that one was 2 massive flocks of 2 different kinds of geese flying in at the same time over the space of over an hour; both snow geese and cackling geese. They each had their flying lanes spiraling in from all directions and they landed totally intermixed; many thousands of both kinds. This is something we may never see again. We also saw hundreds of both lesser and greater sandhill cranes (this late in the year the lesser sandhill cranes would normally be gone, heading back north with the greater about to leave but they're still there). The lesser sandhill cranes are 3-4 feet tall and the greater 4-5.5 feet tall, huge beautiful ancient birds. We also saw a few bird species we'd never seen before and we're working to figure out what they are. We of course saw much more still.

No two ways about it, your love of making pinatas have gone from being family legend to being a permanent part of it's tradition and lore. Pretty impressive.

Her check up went great. She got her cone removed and is back to walking around and eating with the rest of the cats 3nodding The Vet did mention to keep an eye on her and if I see an abnormal behavior for her to go back for a visit. To me she is back to her usual grump/cuddly self so far.

Ah so they just don't deal with that at all to begin with, that's terrible for all it's other customers too. Well the new one already is a better fit for you since it seem they do deal with it. Hopefully once the whole transfer is complete it won't happen again or at the very least for a long while.

Sounds like the first guys did everything wrong. eek
How long did the kitchen renovation take? Considering it was during 2020 it must have taking quite a bit of time.
Did you end up picking a carpet yet?

I had to google the birds you mention to really picture them. And wow! Must have been quite a beautiful sight! Especially those big cranes.
When I go hiking/exploring I never really know what type of bird I would see, but it is fun trying to figure it out. I think I know more about flowers than birds.

Yup! My other brother birthday was this past weekend and everyone had fun with the pinata 3nodding One of my brothers friends even asked if I was willing to make a pinata for her kids. Of course I am interested, I just need a month of a heads up. lol

That's great news. It sounds like things were pretty serious. I think most of us already knew this stuff but here's an interesting article on how cats relate to their people. I can't figure out why they haven't looked at how cats relate to each other in an established colony. It's pretty much the same how they relate to people and other critters they consider family.

We're hoping that anyway. So far, we are still waiting for the new checks and new visa and we just have their word on fraud investigation. We shall see.

Oh the first one did. And the story is much worse than that. We only ended up with him because the original construction company our insurer picked for us stalled for 6 months and then pulled out of the state completely. This guy was one of the subcontractors and he assured us he could do the entire job. It was 8 months with no kitchen in 2019. In 2020, our insurer picked the company to do the decontamination from the water leak and I asked them to recommend a good construction company. They gave me a list of the top 5 they new of and we picked the one that was available. That time too we had a better adjuster. There were delays in getting supplies needed but in the end, from the time of the leak to all work being completed it was about 3 months. Yep, I found a carpet color that would go with the room which will now not match the rest of the house but go very well with everything in it.

I figured you'd be googling them; google image and google search are invaluable for things like that. I could keep you busy for days by listing all the species of birds we've been enjoying this winter or at least a good number of them. It truly is spectacular in winter here. Here are a few others; black necked stilts, killdeer, northern shovelers, cinnamon teals, green winged teals, red winged blackbirds, harriers, red hawk, golden eagle, kites, egrets, snowy egrets, and what our group calls "photo op" black phoebes. These are some of the more common ones this winter. Oh and huge numbers of American Coots. We're going to the preserve later this afternoon; hopefully the migratory birds haven't left yet.

Legacy indeed. You could go into business making them either full time or as a side gig if you get bored with your main profession. You've already a following so word of mouth would be invaluable.

Been a minute since I've said hello. How are you doing? I'm just trying to avoid staring too much at the raging dumpster fire that is currently happening. *gestures towards DC*

Tonight, I passed 10 or 15 police cars lining the road near the far side of my neighborhood. A few of the cops were walking down the side of the road in the dark, and two of them were standing next to a car in the apartment complex on the corner, looking through the trunk. It was highly strange. They weren't doing a roadblock or anything, so I wondered if they were on a manhunt for someone specific who was on foot. They didn't seem to be actually inside my neighborhood at all, just on the main road next to it. Quite unsettling!

Hi there. Welcome back.

I'm doing OK, doing my best to try and ignore the predictable results of the last election, knowing it's going to be insane before everything changes. I do keep a loose eye on the larger bullet points to be aware of how it's going to affect daily life but beyond that, I just wait and trust that this time too will end and rather abruptly. So far everything is happening pretty close to what I expected.

It's always unsettling to see evidence of some kind of crime happening nearby but I look at it this way--it's happening whether the bad guys are caught or made known or not. I'd prefer they were caught even if it shows the evidence that something happened. At least in my area less than 10% of nonviolent crimes are ever followed up on. And it happens in so many ways that eventually all of us will be victims of it, often multiple times.

I'm just thankful violent crime isn't as prevalent. Stuff can be replaced, money can be earned but the trauma of violence is very hard to recover from. The horrible feeling that comes of being a victim of nonviolent crime is much easier to get past--I know this all too well personally. I don't wish to go into detail of a situation my husband and I are dealing with currently, but I did post about it to bloodangel in this thread if you want the details.

So after dealing with what life throws at me, I move my focus to the majority of moments of my life that are either routine or enjoyable and maintain my sanity. Truly focus is the key after processing feelings.

I keep vacillating between horrible anxiety and dissociation when I think about what's going on. Feels like I'm just waiting for the s**t to hit the fan. I'm not sure what to expect when it finally does, so I'm just trying to keep my head down, decrease my presence on social media, etc.

I haven't heard any official news about the police thing last night, but the PD posts a one-liner about each of their incident reports, accidents, and arrests on their website and there was one that said there was a juvenile missing from down the same road right around the time I saw all the cops, so I think that might have been what was going on. I hope nobody suffered bodily harm.

Wow, I scrolled back a few pages and read your posts -- sounds like an all-around nightmare! I've never dealt with a problem like that on such a scale; someone seriously messed up and I can only imagine how infuriating and stressful that is for you. stressed I'm sorry you've had to deal with it!
