The world was a blur, warm and blissfully comfortable. A rare event, her waking to him sneaking out from under the covers. Catching him by the arm OK reeled him back into bed and refused to let go.

"Stay." She pleaded, her voice sleepy and with an almost uncharacteristic sweetness.

They were always moving and while she couldn't have asked for a better traveling partner, it seemed like there'd been less and less time to just soak in his company without the static of highway and gunfire distracting them both.

Looking into her eyes he couldn't say no to her. The last night had been so nice and the first time in a long time they had even had a bed. They had been chasing a couple of bank robbers up and down Texas and Oklahoma for the last couple of weeks. Always seeming to be one step behind their prey. A few more hours couldn't hurt, he was only going to go read up on the days paper anyway. See how behind they were. Noir kissed her hand and got back into bed. These were the best of times and he would never let her go.

He held her close, "We do need to get going soon hon, no telling where they are by now."

"Honestly, right now I couldn't care less."

Not settling for a kiss on the hand she snaked herself around his frame and pulled him against her. The longer the duo they were chasing eluded them were just a few more gracious hours of freedom she and Noir allowed them. She almost felt sad for them in her own way, they probably didn't feel all that unlike she and her detective- a pair of fugitives sharing the thrill of living life on their own terms.

Hopefully it'd be a good fight, but for now she just wanted to steal a few more peaceful minutes.

"Good point, me either," Noir said after a long kiss. What could a few minutes hurt, a few hours, a few days. He could stay here with her forever and die a happy man. For a while he could let down his guard, let go of his worries, and just be with her. He knew that his need for justice and the hunt would be back soon but for now he could put it aside and just be with the one he loved.

Soaking up his warmth she huddled against him, nipping at his skin affectionately with her mouth. Every time she remembered he was supposed to be on duty, taking her off to a likely life prison sentence, it brought a smile to her face. They'd sent one of their best out after a killer and she'd happily taken him as her own. Even if she was making some compromises in letting herself get close to anyone she was currently too happy to care. Like a orphan with a home for the first time she buried herself in him.

"So a shower first? Coffee? Or..." She smirked at him suggestively.

Noir rolled on top of her with a sly grin on his face.

-------------some time later--------------

Noir stepped out of the shower, dried his hair, and then combed it back.
It had been a great morning and he was ready to head out. He felt like no one could touch him and OK, not even this other couple who kept giving them the slip. Noir finished drying off and put on his grey and black suit, then dawned his usual cloth mask. It was intimidating and the mask did give him a great deal of comfort. He had worn it for so long. He slid his hand over his silver badge but decided it was best to keep it in his travel case.

She waited for him by the door, realizing how much she enjoyed watching him- especially when he wasn't looking. It was that thought that struck her with a pang of guilt.

What am I doing? Christ, what would Eden think-?

Her brother, Eden, was the only person she cared for- until recently. As much as she was a free spirit, nobody twisted her quite like her brother. Maybe it was because he'd saved her from a life of solitary confinement and electroshock therapy, but that was just the easy answer. Mostly she just hoped Noir and Eden crossing paths wouldn't ever be something she had to deal with.

Now she looked back at Noir, trying to disguise her feeling of doubt. Better they hit the road. The highway and a cigarette would soothe her.

"You ready now Angel?"

"Yeah lets go," said Noir as he went out the door holding a few bags.
He put them in the trunk and got in the drivers seat.
Noir turned the key and lit a cigarette, then offered her one.
He thought about who he had been a few months ago, be barely recongnized himself.
And he looked at her, would she get tired of him? He was trying as hard as he could to hold on to her, give her everything she needed. But was it enough for her? He really hoped so.

She took the cigarette with a small appreciative nod and proceeded to smoke it while looking out the the passenger window. OK drown in the feeling of the ground rushing underneath them, the wind passing through her hair. The sensation of movement always temporarily satisfied her urge for going. Being stationary was so much harder, gave her so much more time inside her head.

Living like this was beautiful, and, even as much danger as they sought out, she always felt safe with him. It defied her very nature of being self-sufficient, spontaneous and had kept from the activities that satisfied her most- death and self-destruction. It was beautiful, but it didn't feel real. He didn't feel real. It was a guilty feeling, like he was something she'd shoplifted.

That feeling was creeping up on her again. The one to disappear. To steal away and find her sense of self.

They had been on the road a few hours when Noir they came to a small town in Oklahoma called Fort Cobb. They stopped for gas and to pick up a paper.

"Looks like we are only a day behind them now. Turns out they were here yesterday, banks been robbed."
He was aching to catch up. They had been going after this couple for weeks now and Noir was ready to catch them and move on. He did enjoy it though, OK's hair looked beautiful with the wind blowing through it.

"So we can keep driving- but at this point the cops have to be onto them too."

If they were caught at this point Noir might be able to save his career mostly unscathed, if they played it off like she'd been keeping him hostage. Even that might be a stretch. She'd be lucky to dodge the death penalty- not that death bothered her. It wouldn't be the way she preferred to go out though.

"Ha, like they have a chance without me." Noir smiled and put the car in drive.
He was in a good mood now that he knew they were catching up.
Noir leaned over and kissed OK while he sped off.
"It shouldn't be long now at the rate we're going."

"I'm sure the entire justice system will crumble without you." She said, sarcasm heavy in her voice.

She'd returned the kiss halfheartedly. Ever since this morning she'd been swimming in doubt. At least there was a fight to look forward to. Everything inside her ached for it a good showdown. They were good bandits, at the very least. They'd probably made off with some really decent money by now.

Looking to Noir and then back out the window she tried to push back her unease. She couldn't worry about the situation now. When it came time for action sentimentality would only serve to distract her. She resolved to sort things out with him... later.

Noir could tell OK was uneasy, not quite her usual vixney self.
"Whats wrong doll? You don't seem like yourself," he said as he pulled over the car so they could have a real conversation.
